There is a taxi stand and office just after you cross the border into Spain / La Linea from Gibraltar and they have a list of fares which are all regularised / tariffed.
According to the list shown on :

http://taxilalinea.com/

the fare from La Linea to Cadiz is €145 daytime or €171 night.
Not necessary to pre book as there seem to be always taxis at the stand.

You may be lucky and find that a bus is easier and certainly cheaper. For example you can walk from the border at La Linea a little distance to the bus terminal and take a bus around the Bay to Algeciras main bus terminal called San Bernardo. From here take a bus to Cadiz.
The local La Linea bus takes around 35 minutes and costs about €2.60 then the bus from Algeciras may take 2 hours and cost perhaps about €14 +-

Occasionally there is a bus starting at La Linea and finishing at Cadiz. See times:

and the local La Linea bus:

If you have to open a bank account I suggest you CAJAMAR
They have small fees for the Credit Card (€5 per year if well remember) and they give you he card very soon.
English spoken (not great) at the bank.
Watch out if you withdraw money from other banks because they charge you a lot (even €8 sometimes).

I'm like most others here, I passed through La Linea on my way to Gibraltar. Since the inflated costs and English pounds were going to suck our wallets dry, we opted to stay at a more economic hostel in La Linea.

65 pounds to stay in Gibraltar at a youth hostel, verses 55 Eur to stay in La Linea... that's an easy decision.

Since 1704, Spain and Britain have fought for control of The Rock. Since it was in important naval port, neither wanted to relinquish their claims. However the British ultimately claimed victory.

Relations have not always been amicable. Several battles and hard times have occurred during the centuries. The border was completely closed from 1969 to 1982. Thankfully border restrictions were lifted in 1985.

"Plaza de la Constitucion"

"La Feria de La Linea"

The Fair in La Linea is a crazy event where everybody goes out everyday and everynight to drink and get on all the attractions!!

This is the biggest festival in La Linea of the whole year.
If you live near the Fair forget about sleeping during the night...I might be pretty hard....
