One very basic place serving very local food is situated in front of Mercado Central (central market): Los Pueblos. It´s cheap and the food is tasty. Local people and students eat here, as well as travellers who look very much like backpackers. They have locally a very famous dish: pollo al ajillo, garlic chicken served with french fries and mayonaise, simply and stunningly delicious. House wine is basic but tasty, it goes well with the food. Tapas are served too.

Hi, it´s called Los Pueblos referring to Málaga mountain villages. It is located in Calle de Atarazanas nº 15, and you can´t miss it, its in front of Málaga central market building called Mercado de Atarazanas. There is a flower shop on the left hand side of this restaurant and the name is: El Manojo de Rosas.

Depending from where you look, but it is more like behind the first row of blocks of houses on Alameda street directin inlands, the street that takes you to the port and further to Malagueta when coming from El Corte Inglés department store direction. Starting from El Corte Inglés crossing the river to Alameda boulevard and there it is, on the left hand side, just behind first row of blocks. It is easy to find, just ask Mercado de Atarazanas if you feel lost for a moment, but I believe you don´t. It is very central and easy to find. By the way, there is a very beloved tavern, bodega, nearby two blocks of houses to the Alameda direction (calle panaderos is in the middle); la antigua casa del guardia. Here you can taste the original Málaga wine, a sweet and delicious wine that has made Málaga famous world over in wine circuits as many believe it should be tasted.

Sorry, antigua casa de la guardia bodega is two blocs of houses away from los pueblos restaurant towards la Alameda street, I meant. Sorry if my instruction were not clear enough.

Please Note it is not customary to tip Spanish bartenders every time you order drinks (although I am sure they don't mind!).
Many Spanish are insulted if you do not at least try and converse in their language. We would not like it if foreigners came to our country and barked at people in their own tongue. The same courtesy should be extended to which ever country we visit.

Situated in the mountains, Alhaurín el Grande and the surrounding villages are typically Andalucían and the historical influence imparted by the Romans and later the Moors is evident throughout the region. Becoming increasingly popular amongst foreign residents, the area is a peaceful alternative to the busy coastal areas.
How about buses?
by Malecka
Well, it is true that most people travel in Spain by train (Ok, the TALGO trains are amazing) but backpackers don't really need the luxury. A nice-price is a BETTER choice.
So... Buses are just fine.
... I managed to get from Gerona/Girona to Malaga by using this means of transport.
What you might need to know is that... There are many different companies and each one has its own routes.
For example, ALSA holds the line: Madrid-Barcelona. DAIBUS is the one you'll use for reaching Malaga.
A whole lot of lunch
by PrincessMonja about La Reserva 12
Four of us had a very nice set lunch of fish soup, grilled sole and fruit with wine water and coffee for 22€ per head, quite expensive for a set menu in Málaga, but the portions were huge and delicious, a very pleasant lunch! The fish soup was very tasty, lots of fish prawns and a mussel in it!
