hire car

by ady_spencer

Hi - flying into Malaga airport next week, anyone have any experience of the various hire car companies at the airport? recommendations or horror stories...? I plan to drive down the coast to Tarifa over the week and back again....
Also, any nice stop off points along the way. Keen to avoid the whole brit abroad thing, see some culture..
Cheers for any help!

Forget the car - travel light - go into Malaga City itself and enjoy some excellent atmosphere and plenty of Spanish feel. Enjoy Malaga City. Turn left coming out of the airport not right !
After your visit to Malaga City head along the coast on a bus heading for Algeciras. Try and avoid the Costa del Sol. Except for some areas you may find more towards the Costa de la Luz - west of Algeciras. Algeciras is worth a stop. It has some Africa feel especially as you can see it across the Straits but also a really nice Spanish welcome. Consider staying at Reina Cristina Hotel.http://www.hotelesglobales.com Over 100 years old and still going strong. Easy walk from the bus station. And some bargain room costs in Sept. Then take a local bus around to Tarifa from the same bus station called San Bernardo !
You can always use the train from Algeciras to go up into the Serrania de Ronda or Ronda itself. The Feria is on next week I think - check the dates on Turismo Ronda web. Malaga bus station web : http://www.estabus.emtsam.es/
Local Algeciras and area transport : http://www.ctmcg.com/

At the airport you will find many companies like Avis, Europcar, Hertz apart from some local companies. My recomendation would be a Spanish low cost car rental company which you can check out at the following link - www.pepecar.com Their office is just near the airport, however if you make a resrvation through their website you will not have any problems. One more recomendation - take a full risk insurance cover, surely worth it.

Have a great time

Hey.. I can highly recommend the Helle Hollis car rental company..rented there the past 10 years, never had anything to complain about. They also have a fair fuel policy so that you only pay for the fuel you use plus a number of other advantages.. Go to Caños de Meca and El Palmar near Cádiz.beautiful.. Have a great trip!

Hi

New to the forum but found it really useful and picked up some great tips, was reading about the car hire and had a few problems this Summer due to the lack of cars about and recently found Malagacar through hirecarsinspain and had a couple of cars from them and they seem to be good and saved quite a bit cos of their half full of fuel return half full of fuel

Hope this helps

Travel Tips for Málaga

Málaga Tip

by datapanik

The most amusing memory of this trip has to be the two spoilt American tourists who, not satisfied with the splendid range of breakfast options on offer at the hotel, insisted on asking the bemused waiter if they had any bran (that's b- r- a- n, OK)!

Malaga - western beaches

by Raquero

Playas Huellen,San Andres, Misericordia and La Guadalhorce
These beaches run west from Malagas port along a the new Antonio Machada promenade to the river Guadalhorce.

There are numerous stalls on the beach where you can sit down and have a beer and grilled sardines.

Torrijas

by blint about Botique shops on Calle Granada

Torrijas are the traditional Semana Santa food like hot cross buns in Britain.

The ones you can see in the photo are a little strange as they are normally made from bread dipped in milk and egg and fried. Topped with Sugar and honey.

One of the explanations of where this tradition comes from is that the convents of Andalucia made them to use up the left over bread.

Jet. We flew from Cincinatti,...

by yak5371

Jet. We flew from Cincinatti, Ohio to Boston, Massachusetts and then to Spain. On the return trip we flew from Spain to Bangor, Maine and then to Cincinatti, Ohio
We traveled by bus. The roads were brick and very narrow. It was kind of scary, because the bus drivers drove fast.

Chringuito

by blint about Rocamar

Situated on the seafront by the Paseo Maritimo Antonio Machado close to the port, this little beach bar, like many other neighbouring ones offer you anything from a morning coffee, lunch, an afternoon beer, dinner, to a night time beer.

The best thing about the beach bars in Malaga is that they cook sardines on an open BBQ in what looks like, or once was, a row boat.

They also have a large indoor section for cold days
