Parking in Malaga and Costa del Sol, Spain

by adelantecs

Hi everyone,

I will be traveling with my 75 year old mother to Costa del Sol and am wondering if I should rent a car to get around. Will be there for 9 days. Please let me know.

Thanks and safe travels.

Hello welcome to VT!
Travelling by car would certainly give you a lot more freedom and flexibility on a touring holiday in the Malaga region.
Do you know which places you want to visit? and will you travel out from a fixed base doing day trips or actually make a road tour of the area staying at different places?
If you would like to give a few more details of your planned itinerary we could perhaps help with information about those places that can be easily reached by public transport and/or any special driving tips useful for your planned trip.

Hi Ranger,

We will be staying at the same hotel for the 9 days but I would love to drive around to see Granada, Seville, Gibraltor and whatever else might strike our fancy. I was thinking a car would be convenient because my mom can't move around and walk too easily (she uses a cane). But I don't know how difficult it is to find parking and how expensive parking is. We'll be staying at a hotel in Costa del Sol.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated :)

Do you know which town on the Costa del Sol that you will be staying in? The location could make a difference to your various journeys. For example when we stayed in Nerja we found the journey to Granada very easy to do withinin a day, spending several hours at the Alhhambra, where there is extensive parking, ans in the town to visit the cathedral. We were there in low season and had no parking problems. But we combined visits to Seville and Cordoba when we stayed west of Malaga and spent a couple of nights away from our base.
The time of year you travel will obviously make a difference to how busy tourist attractions are, but for the Alhambra you should book in advance as entry is in timed slots. The earlier in the day that you arrive the less crowded it should be. The local tourist office wherever you are based can advises on booking.

In would certainly use a car in view your 75 year old mother.
If you arrive at Malaga airport, I can recommend the company Malagacar. I've used them often, and they are both cheap and reliable with prices all inclusive.

Travel Tips for Málaga

One man's meat........

by Pauldelabar

.....is another man's poison. Everybody is entitled to their opinion and for those who like Malaga, fine.
However, having been around Malaga so much, I absolutely DETEST the place.

I find this town dark and forboding. It has not decided whether it wants to look old traditional Spanish, modern and purely functional, or just plainly a building site!

I do not like large, built up areas and I'm not a shopping adict.

If it wasn't for using the airport, I would never go to or through Malaga again! Without doubt, in my humble opinion, the best thing about Malaga is the quickest road out of it!

Like I say. This is my opinion. If you think different, so be it.

Saturday weddings

by satara

As we were passing by municipal buildings on Saturday afternoon, in the gardens and parks around one could see lots of just married couples followed by the photographers. Just like everywhere in the world - got married, have your photo done. I found nice that Spanish brides wore the traditional (or maybe they aren't) tiaras..

People watch at Benalmadena Marina

by Senoritasmile

I am not a great fan of the 'costas' but I do admit to enjoying the occasional visit to Benalmadena Marina. It makes me feel as if I'm on holiday! There are a good mix of restaurants centred around the moorings and a number of tourist shops. The biggest pull for me is the best pizzas ever at a place called Metro, situated in the heart of the marina but most of my visitors seem to love this location for a leisurely bar crawl whilst checking out the yachts and boats. A true tourist haven.
