A place you should really...
by rla
A place you should really visit is 'The Alcazaba', the most important military fortification remaining from the Hispanic-Arabic period. It was built on the hillside of the Gibralfaro mountain (Yabal-Faruk, meaning mountain of the lighthouse) from where it is possible to watch the African coast
waiting for the bus
by Jitka_79
I didn't know it when I arrived and that was the reason why everybody knew that I was a stranger.
The Málaga people like to wait in a queue for the bus. It doesn't matter if you are only three people waiting for the bus.
I guess that is why everything in Spain takes so much time.
HOUSE OF THE MOORISH KING & LA MINA
by ALSAGOFF
Ronda is largely distinguished by a couple of landmarks which I'm happy to add, are very close to each other. Well, actually there are lots, but here are the more outstanding ones:
1. El Tajo - the gorge which is more than 500ft deep and separates the old part of town fromt he new one.
2. Plaza del Torros bullring, home to famous bull-fighter, Pedro Romeros
3.The Bandit Museum
4. My favourite! - Casa del Rey Moro (House of the Moorish King)
You have to pay about 6 euros (i think!) to enter and torture yourself by going down then climbing up 365 steps (yep! one step for each day of the year - that's a whole year's worth of exercising done in one trip!) of La Mina, the undergrond stairway which takes you right to the bottom of the gorge! Spectacular and well-worth the effort.
TIP!!! Do be careful when you climb up & down the steps as it's narrow, dim, and SLIPPERY! Definitely not for those who are claustrophobic...
Make sure you wear warm clothing as it gets really cold down there!
bono-bus card
by Jitka_79
If you plan a longer stay in Málaga, buy a bono-bus card. 10 trips for 5,30€. You can get it in every estanco, the tabacco shops.
With the card you have no problems getting around, because without it you have to pay attention that you have exacly 0,80€ for every trip. The bus drivers don't like to give a change.
chiringuitos - beach restaurants
by call_me_rhia about chiringuito juan
We were recommended to go and have lunch outdoors at a chiringuito, if we wanted to have some great seafood. We walked about the paseo maritimo looking for one that we would find appealing, just to discover that they all more or less looked the same. We chose Juan for two reasons: it had a pleasant ourdoor eating area, and there were some local people there who had just got married and were enjoying a cocktail. We figured it was a sign that the food was good. We did not like the food at Juan very much. We had pulpo gallego, which was swimming in far too much oil, and some simple steamed cockles. We also had the impression that the restaurant wasn't too high on hygiene.
One of us was sick for days after eating there - though it may not have been the food, but the chilly beer and the sudden wind that picked up and made us leave.
