hiking in marbella

by claudericks

Hi...
A group of us are travelling to Marbella late September and are looking for guidance / advice on great hiking / trekking routes. I've done the requisite googling, but wanted to know if anyone had any great hiking experiences to refer to...

thanks!

Re: hiking in marbella

by Walker30s

There are no answers yet, so I'll try. I don't know the walks very close to Marbella. But if you have a car, there are many nice nature parks in Andalusia.
My favourite park in this part of Andalusia is Nature Park of Sierra de Grazalema. You will find the walking route descriptions in English, maps, driving instructions, GPS waypoints etc. from here: http://www.topwalks.net/en/sierra_grazalema.htm
The Nature Park of Los Alcornocales is even closer to Marbella, but you must ask a permission to visit the most interesting routes. The procedure is much too complicated and time consuming. So I recommend you to go to Grazalema park.
Nature park Montes de Malaga is also one possibility, but we found it a bit boring. And I believe it is not at its best after the hot summer months.
From the above mentioned website you will find information on other parks as well. Nature park of El Torcal de Antequera has interesting rock formations, but the hike is rather short and very easy.
The National park of Sierra Nevada is fantastic in September, but I assume you do not want to drive that far. You will find those routes as well from the Topwalks website.
Distances from Marbella:
Grazalema: 93 km - 1h30min
Torcal de Antequera: 110 km - 1h30min
Trevelez, Alpujarra (Sierra Nevada): 212 km - 3h

Travel Tips for Marbella

We came, we saw and we will return.

by nhcram

Came here for the 2006 European VT meeting and aswell as memories we took some photos home with us. The Dali statues in the walkway that leads to the old town, the beaches and the lovely beachside restaurants all make for a great Spanish resort. The flowers that adorn the houses and the trees all add to the maic of the place. The people of course!

Pregnant Tree

by ricky52

An appeal has gone out by the parents of this young tree.
Their daughter is pregnant and the father is unknown.

When asked, the mother of the pregnant tree was hoping that the father would come forward and take care of his baby twiglet.
Once born the baby twiglet will be placed into a nursery to help develop its tiny baby roots and bring out the best in its tiny leaves.
Once matured the little tree will then go to local forest where it hopes to become a useful addition to the local community, care will be taken to protect this tree from unwelome attention from tourists.
The mother tree was also concerned about language, will she need to learn Dannish.

Churros y Chocolate

by Dabs about Plaza de los Naranjos

I'm not sure of just which cafe we stopped at in the Plaza de los Naranjos, indeed we didn't even realize that there were multiple cafes serving the large area in the square until the VT walking tour happened by and we realized that we were at red tableclothed tables and that everyone else was at green tableclothed tables, fraternization with patrons from the other establishments is strictly prohibited! LOL Well except for Hansi.... I had my first taste of what would be my breakfast for the rest of the trip, churros y chocolate, how come no one told me about this before? The churros here weren't as good as the ones in Granada but they were good enough that I wanted to eat them again and again and again...

Churros are a fried dough that you sprinkle with sugar and then dip into a thick hot chocolate-YUM!

Kat had pineapple flavored ice cream served in a carved out pineapple, it was light and not overly sweet.
