What's the best way to get to see Mijas from Malaga? How long is the drive? What attractions are in Mijas?

If you are staying in Malaga city, train to fuengirola and bus from there. With your own car it would be around 30 minutes, with public transport it will take much much longer....

Mijas is a white village, but it has become very touristic, with wonderful views of all the coast from the view point near the chapel

Travel Tips for Mijas

PLAZA DE TOROS

by LoriPori

The bullring or PLAZA DE TOROS was built in 1900 through the many petitions made by the villagers. A curiosity of the bullring is that it is an oval shape.
I have never been or will I ever see a bull-fight. It is just too cruel a sport for me to watch.
Located just inside the entrance to the bull-ring, there is a small museum. I believe the price for entry was 3 Euros.

Plaza de Pina

by Geoff_Wright

Here in the Plaza de Pina you will find this nice (and expensive) looking hotel. this is the Plaza where you can find the donkeys, and the horse and carriages. Climb the fes steps, and you will see, on your left the 'Santuario de la Virgen de la Pena'

Park next to Iglesia

by karenincalifornia

The beautiful park next to the Iglesia Parroquial de la Inmaculada Concepcion and the bullring is a good place to relax and rest your feet. It's very calm up there. The fountain is soothing and the trees are big enough to provide a lot of shade. There is even a Helado stand nearby. (What park is really complete without one?) Enjoy some ice cream at one of the tables or do what we did - we took our ice cream to a park bench with the fantastic view of Costa del Sol.

Casa Museo

by toonsarah

This ethnographic museum is in a restored house typical of the region, and is worth visiting for the house alone. The rooms are set around a pretty courtyard, and on the ground floor display old farming tools and equipment, oil presses, kitchen implements, brick ovens and many more objects relating to regional daily life. Dotted among the exhibits there is also a series of small display cases with modelled tableaux, which give you an idea how the various implements would have been used and what people’s homes would have looked like (see photos 3 & 4). It seems that these have all been modelled by the same woman, as we saw some information about her in one of the rooms, which also contained a model of a bull-fight.

The museum has an upper floor but unfortunately it was nearly time for our bus to leave so we had to go without seeing it. I gather that it has changing exhibitions e.g. of art and photography.

The museum is open daily from 10.00-14.00 and 15.00-19.00 (Monday to Friday), 16.00-20.00 (Saturdays) and 16.00-19.00 (Sundays). Admission is free, which really surprised me considering how much is on display.

Fortress walls, view point and gardens.

by Regina1965

Here are the remaining walls of the fortress that protected the city. The gardens have been designed to have flowers all year round and the view from here of Mijas costa and Fuengirola is surely the most spectacular ever. Absolutely breathtaking.

The fortress walls are number 8 on the map.
