Casa Los Leones: Mijas Villas
Since we were spending an entire week in Andalucia, we rented a house in Mijas. With four of us traveling together, this ends up being less expensive than staying in a hotel for a week and roomier than cramming us all into one room. We can also our laundry here instead of going to a laundromat. We save on breakfast, too, because we pick up things like coffee, fresh fruit, yogurt, Iberian ham, Manchego cheese and pastries for breakfast instead of going to a cafe. Be prepared: milk comes in an unrefrigerated box and tastes somewhat different from refrigerated milk in the carton in the US.
Our Mijas house for a week was a nicely appointed, relatively new, 4 bedroom house in a subdivision ("urbanization" in Spain-speak) called Buena Vista. Our house, Casa Los Leones, was managed and rented by Mijas Villas. The process was very easy, and everything in the house worked well. The bedrooms were all air conditioned. The kitchen was small but nice with new appliances and granite counter tops. There were several sitting areas outside and we made a lot of good use of the pool.
The urbanization was extremely quiet and had views of the coast. We only saw a few cars each day. I don't think regular people live here. All the homes must all be second vacation homes. The homes were built in Moorish design to conform to Mijas Village, which is about 5km away.

Staying in Mijas
We did not stay in a hotel in Mijas.
Unless you are just going to stay there overnight, I wouldn't really book a week's stay at a hotel in Mijas, unless you want to just stay put and not do any travelling around.
If you are going to be in the Costa Del Sol area for a week or two, I think most tourists want to travel around a bit and see as much as they can before it's time to return home.
If you are one of these tourists, you will want to choose a hotel that is more centrally-located, like down along the coast. The main highway runs east-west past all of the cities near the coastline.
There are likely some very nice hotels in Mijas, but the town is somewhat out of the way, and for me, having to make the drive up and down the mountain each day would lose its appeal quickly.
Something to consider...

Hotels & Hostals
There are around 7 hotels in Mijas ranging from * star to ****. If you want to stay right in the heart of Mijas then Hostal El Escudo De Mijas * is right in the centre of the town near Plaza de la Constitucion. Vila Los Flamencos is also located in the town and each unit has a kitchen and private garden. There are many more options of accommodation including apartments and villas in the surrounding hills.
