Travel Tips for Mijas

A Very Unspoilt Town

by Geoff_Wright

Mijas is full of charming streets, lined with tiny local shops in which you can purchase local wares, such as ceramics, leatherwork, jewellery and paintings.

Here are Carmen and Mary at the Fountain of Youth (my words), but it didn't work! LOL!!

Mijas International Day

by keeweechic

The International Day is usually held in May each year and like all other Spanish celebrations, there is a lot of music, dancing and eating. All the various nationalities of the town are represented to share their cultures.

Nondescript exterior - surprisingly good food

by karenincalifornia about Restaurante El Puerto

El Puerto is located in a nondescript part of town. It's part of a small row of restaurants on the road that goes into Mijas Pueblo. The tables are set up on the sidewalk, and if they fill up, they just start using the tables in the neighboring restaurant. The food was surprisingly good. We had seafood and beef, all cooked Andalucian-style. Good restaurant, good service. Desserts were yummy, too.

El Compás vantage point.

by Regina1965

By The Shrine of the Virgin of the rock there is a vantage point, called El Compás, with a marvellous view of Mijás costa and Fuengirola. The view from there is just breathtaking.

Mijás pueblo is only 7-8 km from the coast.

The vantage point is number 2 on the map together with the shrine.

Main Tourist Shop Street

by blint

Maybe by the time you go to the Zoco you had spent all your change of the tourist shops lining the pretty village streets.

So what did you buy? A squishy fake breast stress ball? A postcard with a naked women and/or a donkey on it,? A flamenco dress for your daughter, a cuddly donkey, a name plate in English with a witty comment engraved on to it? A mini bull? A tie dye skirt? Some baggy shorts? some new sandals off course!!!! But keep those white socks on boys!

Although the streets are some what ruined by the tourist shops you can just see past it to the once quaint charm of them. I especially liked the paving on the ground.
