Arriving in Nerja late - any recommendations for takeaways?

by stripeymouse

I am going on holiday to Nerja in a couple of weeks, and will be arriving quite late at night (probably just past midnight).

Can anyone recommend a nice takeaway place, so that myself and my boyfriend can get a snack, as we'll probably be hungry!!

Thanks!

There is a good pizza take-away place in El Barrio, just past LUAL estate agency, alternatively there are several india restauarants that do take-away. The one that I would imagine is definately going to open late would be Balti Towers in Tutti Frutti plaza as the bars in this area are all open until the wee hours

Travel Tips for Nerja

Siesta from 2pm until 5pm.

by Pauldelabar

Most shops and some bars close from 2pm until 5pm for a Siesta (Snooze) Mondays to Fridays.
On Saturdays, some shops close at 2pm and do not reopen again that day.
On Sundays many shops and some bars are closed all day.

Getting money (Euros):
So as Cambios and Banks also close, either remember to get your money changed before they close ,
or,
use your CARD in an ATM (Hole in the Wall) so that you are not left short of cash.

Smoking:
Tabacos (Tobacco shops) all close for Siesta. Nearly all are closed all day on Sundays. So if you smoke, stock up on Saturdays.

If you are really stuck without cigarettes on a Sunday, some bars have machines and, unlike in the UK, do not charge much more than the Tabacos although you will have to settle for what brands they have. You may see newspaper booths that also sell cigarettes and cigars but you will be paying MUCH more than at the Tabacos shops.

A place with such a machine and always open is the 'Hostal Ermita' bar/restaurant - just through the LEFT hand door and on your immediate left. Location - Calle San Miguel.

Essentials on Sundays:
Bread shops (Panaderias) are open every day including Sundays. The big supermarket, Mercadona, is CLOSED all day on Sunday, but MAS is open (prol. Antonio Millon).
Fresh vegetable shops are usually open on Sunday mornings until about lunchtime.
Bars vary their opening times and closed days through the week but there are a large percentage that close on Sundays or do not open until the evening.

Mercadona has a website so that you may find the nearest to where YOU are staying in Spain. Link below.

The Bosque, sunny terraz (Avenida Castilla Perez)

by Pauldelabar about Bar El Bosque

British Sports Bar.
The Bosque has a large sunny terrace on the front of the bar which has the sun on it from early morning until after lunchtime and is very popular. One observation is that inside, there seems more room behind the bar than there is this side for customers!

Multi sports can be watched on TV here - at the same time and a horse racing bet may also be placed.

Bar food is also available here. The terrace is a firm favourite and I would advise going early to get a table outside.

Price range:
Good value for money.
Atmosphere:
Not a great deal of atmosphere but the sunny terrace makes up for it.
Theme:
The bar counter dominates inside. No real theme.
opening hours:
Mid morning until around 1:00pm.
Disabled notes:
Level access.

The picture was part of another of the Acorn so I appologise for the poor quality of the 'blow up' of this part of that picture as this is the only shot I have at present of the bar El Bosque. Casual

Live music at the Fillmore. (Plaza Ermita)

by Pauldelabar about The Fillmore

British Music Tapas/Bar.
The Fillmore is a hard to find bar, tucked away in Plaza Ermita. It is well known for live music at least once a week on the terrace at the side.

The bar is an unusual shape owing to a covered stair well making it a square 'U' shape.
It is only a small bar but full of character.

Draught Guinness is available here along with the ubiquitous San Miguel.

Tapas are available.

This bar is currently CLOSED. Hopefully it will find a buyer and open again soon.

Price range:
Good value for money.
Atmosphere:
Great when there is live music playing.
Theme:
Music pictures and instruments adorn this bar as a theme.
Opening times:
Bar currently CLOSED.
Disabled notes:
Level access but a small bar for wheelchairs. Very Casual.

Meal by the Beach

by jaygee about Restaurante Playa Torrecilla

A popular restaurant overlooking the beach at Playa Torrecilla. There are outside seats on the promenade and seating inside but still with good view of beach. The food is better than you would expect from its location close to the beach and more Spanish than international. Lunch for two including sangria was generally less than 30 Euros, reasonably priced as this was for fish dishes.

The waiters are very quick in fact one usually runs from kitchen to table. Also good spot to have coffee or a drink and ogle people on the beach. One of the days we were there, there was a mobile massage centre on the beach with staff from nearby hotel's health centre. Merluza a la Romana

The Balcón De Europa, Nerja

by smilenerja

From The Front Cover of Smile Nerja:) Issue 5

No visit to Nerja would be complete without a wander on the promenade at the Balcón de Europa (The Balcony of Europe).

Built in 1487 on the site of a 9th Century Moorish fortress, the Balcón de Europa, in the heart of Nerja, is a beautiful viewing point overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and down to Calahonda & El Salon beaches.

El Paseo, the promenade leading to the Balcón, is lined with palm trees and benches where you can sit in the shade and take in the scenery and the atmosphere.

During the day you can take a Horse and Carriage tour from here and enjoy some of the other sites Nerja has to offer. At night you can expect to be entertained by street performers or have your portrait or caricature painted.

Come fiesta time the Balcón is definitely the place to be as almost all pass through here.

Enjoy yourselves!
