BALCON DE EUROPA
by LoriPori
The heart of Nerja is its spectacular BALCON DE EUROPA or Balcony of Europe, which is a magnificent promenade along the edge of a towering cliff, with sweeping panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea, the small coves and beaches below and the dramatic mountain range - Sierra Almijara.
The Balcon area was originally known as La Bateria in reference to the gun battery which existed there in a fortified tower. It was built in 1487 on the site of a 9th century Moorish Fortress.
The Promenade is lined with palm trees and benches - a real "people" place. On the afternoon we were there, we were treated to a parachutist who was trying to land at the end of the Balcon (Photo 3) . He didn't have much luck as it was quite windy that day. It was still quite fun watching him maneuver his parachute over the cliffs and through the air.

This very Spanish tapas bar is used by the drivers of the coaches and horses in Nerja which take visitors around the town. If you buy a drink, you get free tapas. I think the food is free on a Friday night too. When we visited, we were the only ones there, but it was interesting to be in such a quaint place. The horses are stabled in very humble conditions next to the bar, but despite the simplicity of their stables, they look to be in wonderful condition.
Black and white ? (Calle Pintada)
by Pauldelabar about Blanco y Negro
Karaoke Bar.
The Blanco y Negro is known by its English name of 'the Black and White, (although it litterally translates to White and Black).
The bar is only open at night time and is a Karaoke bar. (If you like that sort of thing).
Look carefully to find it as it is secluded up a shopfronted entry, although they do put an 'A' frame board outside to direct you.
Price range:
Can't remember. I don't go in there very often.
Atmosphere:
Depends on whether you like Karaoke or not. Can be loud and/or painful to the ears!
Theme
Modern and 'nightclubish'.
Opening times:
About 9pm til late.
Disabled notes:
Not really wheelchair friendly. Casual
LA STRADA
by Carmela71 about PIZZERIA
It is close to the pubs area.. (as usual i know how to go, but never remeber the names lol) is a nice pasta palce, but nothing special, apart of ebing close to the area of going out, our friends house and our hostal, so enough reasons to go.
Also i think that a palce that locals go, must be good, and most of the people there, were locals...
Great Cod
by jaygee about Codfather
The Codfather serves British style fish and chips but in a Spanish style cafe setting. It has seating outside as well as inside and a there is a bar, you don't get that in the UK
Paper tablecloth and knapkins but the fish and chips are great. Can't comment on anything else as that's all we had.
Regular cod and chips in May 2005 were 7.90 Euros per portion. Cod and chips, great taste.
