My Favourite Town!
by joeyr
Straight around the old Spanish bars, winding down the streets to the Balcon for a great warm welcome, fantastic culture with lovely tapas and cheap drinks! I miss most the possibility of strolling around in the warm sun, before being able to enter a Spanish bar and be treated fantastically, in a town with true character.

19th hole. (Off Avda Castilla Perez)
by Pauldelabar about 19th hole.
British Cafe/Bar.
The 19th hole got its name of 'God's waiting room' due the amount of elderly clientelle that use the place. I don't know whether that is politically correct or not in todays idiom.
This pub is actually advertised as a tapas bar?
However, they do serve a good Sunday lunch and is well worth a visit or two at any time.
As the name suggests, there is a good golfing presence here.
Price range:
Good value for money.
Atmosphere:
Cosy but can be a little 'cliquey'.
Theme:
Tastefully decorated with a minimal golfing theme.
opening times:
Mid morning until around 11:00 pm.
Disabled notes:
Steps down to the bar need to be noted. Casual.
great steaks in torrox costa
by j.parry1 about the hideaway
tucked away behind the prom at the lighthouse end of the beach at torrox costa. very intimate and friendly. ran by an englishman and his swedish partner.all of the food is home cooked and fresh. the owners are very friendly and interacted with the clients, we must of spent an hour chatting about diferent things. as i have said all of the food is fresh and the menu extensive, inc specials of the day etc, a must visit if you are in torrox. i had fillet steak in a wild mushroom sauce, the steak was not small by any means, and the fresh veg were great, followed by apple pie and real custard (i know im a bit boring, but i love my trad puds) there were many more exotic choices right acroos the menu
Hang out on the Balcon
by ranger49
The Balcon de Europa is a popular meeting place from morning til midnight and a good place to meet friends for a coffee or a bit of people watching.
Centrally located in Nerja it is close to many restaurants, shops, the Tourist Office, Post Office. THere are also several hotels in all classes, and self catering accommodation within easy walking distance.
There are good views from the Balcon over Calahonda Beach to the east and, to the west, the little cove belonging to The Balcon de Europa Hotel - a great place to catch the sunset.
The history of the town from the neolithic period to the mid 20th Century is an extraordinary cyclical tale of poverty and prosperity, war and peace, health and disease.
The 19th century brought the greatest combination of the best of all these making Nerja the centre of trade for the produce gown and harvested by the people . As the 20th century began so did another downward spiral - cholera, typhoid, drought, and Phylloxera, industrial unrest and civil war resulted in mass emigration and the decline of the town.
Through the discovery in 1958 of the caves the town was reborn and became famous as a tourist destination.
