Laundry & Internet

by Jandar

Hello all,
My trip is still 3 1/2 mths away but I'm already counting the days.
Can anyone tell me if there are Laundry mats in either Nerja or Maro & where they are located? Does Nerja (Maro may be too small) have internet cafe's? I would like to be able to download pics from a digital camera but I won't have access to a computer unless I can find an internet cafe. Also, can someone tell me about what fresh produce markets are in the area & open in November - either in Nerja or Maro. I believe there is one in Nerja but there seems some confusion of what day(s) it is open.
Thanks a lot.
Jandar

Hi,
There are 2 internet cafes side by side in Calle Malaga. They are on the corner where Avenida Casilla Perez and Calle Malaga meet. This is by Playa la Torrecilla which is about 5 minutes walk from the Balcon de Europa.

There may be others but didn't notice them. No idea if there are launderettes in Nerja, can't say I've ever seen any in Spain.

There is a large market on Tuesdays in Ant.Ferrandiz Chanquete which has the Supersol Supermarket on the corner. Go into any bar and they will have FREE maps of the town which you will find invaluable.
Hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Doug

Travel Tips for Nerja

OLD QUARTER

by LoriPori

The OLD QUARTER if Nerja is still unchanged with narrow, winding streets and whitewashed houses. As you stroll through town, you can't help but feel the excitement of this bustling town. Wonderful tapas bars, brimming with people, mostly standing room only. Wonderful shops! I had no idea Nerja was such a tourist favourite. The last time we were here ( in 2001 ) we did not even visit the town as we visited the Nerja Caves. I'm so glad Hans and I had the opportunity to come here and to top it off, we were with our very special friends. Who could ask for more!!!

Must see the aquaduct

by Pauldelabar

This old aquaduct is to be found at Maro which is only a few miles from Nerja.

Alsina Graells coaches will take you there from Nerja's 'bus dock' (As the Spanish call it).

Strictly called the Larios aquaduct. It's amazing that a structure used for conveying WATER has the name of a Spanish GIN !

Malibu. Large refitted bar. (Calle Malaga)

by Pauldelabar about Malibu

International Cafe/Bar.
A large and tastefully decorated bar that has recently reopened is Bar Malibu on Calle Malaga.

There is shaded terrace space outside at the front and plenty of seating inside, both with tables or at the bar counter. The theme is rattan furniture and a very Carribean feel. There is even a dance floor area. Also prices are no higher than in other bars.

Draught beers on offer are the German Warsteiner and Spanish Victoria (Malaga).

Price range:
Very good value for money considering that this bar has just been refitted to a high standard.
Atmosphere:
Very good for such a large bar.
Theme:
Caribbean throughout, tastefully done.
Opening hours
This bar is open all day. Closed Sundays.
Disabled notes:
One step up to the bar. Large and level inside. Casual.

El pulguilla

there are specialist on tapas and fried fish of the area, all locals come here. Try to seat at the terrace on the top they have.

Calle Bolivia, ask locals, as if you do not know it you can get lost.

Try to enjoy the sea too - even in winter!

by Bwana_Brown

Since Nerja was the only place during our entire 3-week trip in Spain that we actually stayed on the waterfront, we took some time out to simply relax on our balcony and enjoy the various activities taking place along the Mediterranean coast.

When we first arrived in town we made the very short walk from Hostal Marazul to a nicely landscaped and tiled promenade down by the beach, Plaza Fabrica de los Congrejos (Plaza of the Crabs). It is actually named after an old crab factory that used to be located in this part of Nerja. We experienced the first wet and windy weather of our trip on arrival in Nerja but still enjoyed the big waves coming in and crashing on the rocky shoreline below the viewing area. The large square azulejo-like tiles used for flooring in the plaza are actually quite slippery when wet, so a bit of caution is required if it has been raining.

It was great having a balcony with a seaside view at the Hostal - we spent a few hours there sipping wine while reading our books or just looking out, up or down at the various activities along the waterfront (2nd photo). One of the most exhilarating was watching a motorized paraglider (3rd photo) as it swooped over the sea just off-shore - what a view he must have had. Our birdwatching binoculars came in handy for that as well as for checking out the container ships and cruise liners passing by on the horizon (4th photo). We did a great deal of driving during this holiday, so it was a real pleasure to just sit still for a bit!
