Hostal Cafeteria Marazul: Wonderful location and not expensive either

This nice little hostal was the first 'un-booked' accommodations we stayed at in Spain, arriving on the afternoon of Dec. 27th after dropping off Sue's sister at the Malaga airport for her return flight to England and then doing a bit of exploring the local 'white villages' before continuing to Nerja. We drove and walked around a bit trying to find some of the recommended places to stay as per our Lonely Planet guide but we had no luck. Finally, down along the waterfront we stumbled upon Hostal Marazul and there was no fuss at all in getting an upstairs room with a balcony overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, at a price of 35 Euros.

As it turned out, due to weather forecasts of continuous rain (the first we had seen in two weeks!), we left the next morning and drove to the Atlantic coast of Spain for a few days before returning to Nerja again on New Year's Day, 2009. After having no luck at all finding accommodations at two cities further up the coast, we said let's head for Nerja and give it another go! This time we went strait to the Marazul and by 6 PM had booked for two nights at only 30 Euros/night (US$42 at the time).

We again were checked into an upper room with a balcony on the waterfront side (the 2nd photo shows both our balconies with the pillars) and we liked this room even better than the first. We spent the next day doing absolutely nothing as the rain was intermittant and we finally felt like just chilling out (we only had one further night left on the coast before we had to depart for home via Madrid). On both our stays at the Marazul, we had great fun just sitting on our balconies taking in the views of the Nerja's street activities and observing what was happening out on the Mediterranean Sea with our birdwatching binoculars!

We also ate all three of our breakfasts at their ground-floor cafeteria. I recommend this place for good value to all travellers.

Hostal La Ermita **: Brilliant accomodation and near to all amenities.

Very clean Spanish run Hostal. En Suite. Air conditioned. Central location.
I would reccomend this place to anyone and am surprised to not see it mentioned by other members.
However. There's always an however isn't there?. I do notice that the Hostal is up for sale on the internet at least. But so many bars etc. are for sale in Nerja and keep on trading normally, often still with the same owners, so don't let this put you off. By the way, The Ermita has 16 en suite rooms and is up for €1,500,000 if anyone is interested !

This is a town centre Hostal and does not come with any frills such as swimming pool or meals etc. Beds are made daily and all towels are changed daily.
Not included in the price of your room but worth noting, there is a restaurant with bar on the ground floor of the building. Besides Spanish fare, English breakfasts (desayunos Englis) are served and you can eat inside or outside if you wish under the awninged terraz at the front and people watch at the same time.

JP Rentals - Acapulco Apartment: Reasonably Priced Apartment Close to Beach

The Acapulco apartment is a private block of 30 apartments, 50 odd yards from Carabeo/Burriana beaches. Most of the aparments are south facing have panoramic views. It is situated close to the parador and is a gated, pleasantly quiet block situated in nice gardens with a pool.

We rented this traditionally decorated apartment in the end of May 2002.
The swimming pool (amd small kids paddling pool) wasn't open (opens June & we were offered a discount to compensate), but it was a clean and situated in pleasant gardens, very close to the beach (quite a climb down in the heat for those who have trouble walking).

The apartment was extremely well priced, weather perfect at that time of year and a short stroll into town down interesting little streets full of interesting shops, restaurants & bars.

Recommended for a reasonably priced small family apartment.
(Car not essential)

Reasonably priced.
Close to Burriana Beach.
Clean but nothin glam...
Quiet and secure.

There were 4 of us, and we paid around £20 per head for a week .
So a very reasonable £80 - £100 in total for two bedroom apartment, out of season.

(Not air conditioned, but ceiling fans).

Villa's to Hostels

There are many beautiful properties to rent for your holiday including villas and apartments, however we once went there by just booking a flight and we stayed at a hostel/pension run by a guy called juan, and I must say that it was top class. and dirt cheap

Lots to choose fom: Self Catering v. Hotels

Our Favourite Hotel Casa Bella, (£25 per night Doulbe room 1993/4) was turned into an apartment block.
We stayed in the Parador a couple of times (see tip) but mostly we chose self catering - a house in a residential district, a little way out of town , with a nice walk down to the most eastern end of Burriana Beach. ( Stiff climb back though!

Villa with a pool and a View

This was a comfortable 3-bed villa with a separate apartment downstairs at pool level, for 4 people. We used it often over a number of years. The upper terrace overlooking the pool had a built in BBQ and eating area and lovely views over the valley towards the aqueduct and Maro.

Hostal San Miguel: Cheap, Clean and Cheerful Hostal

The Hostal San Miguel is in the center of Nerja, a few minutes from the bus station.

The Hostal has 12 rooms and there are wonderful views from the rooftop terrace where you can sip a glass of wine while taking in the scenery.

There is a pool which comes in very handy with children or if you do not want to bother going down to the beach in the heat.

The rooms are vey clean, double rooms with shower/bath, toilet, A/C, heating, TV and a small balcony, some rooms with a bidet. The three rooms on the ground floor are suitable for people using a wheelchair.

Average price 37-55 € according to season.
Breakfast is not included in the rate, children are free if they don´t occupy an extra bed.

Cheap, convenient, pool to cool off, Engish spoken, friendly.

Hotel Bajamar **: Bajamar, An hotel nearer the activities

The Bajamar is a very nice hotel with all facilites; such as a pool on the roof, en suite rooms, air conditioning, balconys to rooms and TV.

This is a larger hotel with good views and a swimming pool. It was only completed in 2002 and in a quieter location being at the top end of Avenida Castilla Perez.

Hostal La Alhambra

I had stayed there twice.

I like it because the location, just five minutes walking to the beach and five minutes to the nightlife ;-)

Also there is plenty of parking spots just behind.

Prices go from 44 in high season up to 30 euros in low season the double room. single room around 10 euros less than double 10 euros more than double

No air conditioner, all rooms with private bathroom, some with nice terraces.

Really good price quality relation.

Paraiso del Mar: Great Small Hotel

Paraiso del Mar - right beside the Parador. It was fabulous! Enrique (owner?/manager) gave us the tour & told us it was our home for our stay. It was a villa built in the 40s & gradually added to. English was spoken by all & the bulk of the clientele was British or German. Now there are 3 buildings with only 16 rooms & indoor parking (via a car elevator no less) under the newest building. We had rented the junior suite - Rm 207 - 130 Euro per night - the old master bedroom with a sitting area & a monstrous bathroom. B. forgave me for the bathroom at the Amadeus when she saw it. Stunningly beautiful grounds, right on the cliff overlooking the multi-hued Mediterranean. Wow! Our balcony faced due south & I swore I saw Africa in the haze (might have been the wine & Sangria though). Mountains were off to the east & north. Just a gorgeous spot. The public beach was accessed via 141 steps with numerous small patios to break up the walk down & for private sitting areas overlooking the beach. You have to buzz in & out of the gate below to keep the beach riffraff off the hotel grounds. A big WOW again.

The view is a postcard.

Hotel Paraiso del Mar: Nerja's best hotel

Very good staff, speak multiple languages. Continental breakfast is quite good, offers a lot of options for those healthy-savvy people. Definitely reserve a room with a jacuzzi, it's not a big splurge as it may seem.

Strongly suggest to buy your own food. There are no decent tapas or paella places in town as food is very pro-German or pro-English.

There is a PADI diving shop right on the beach. They have daily scuba and snorkeling trips.

mediteranneo Apatments: grrrreat

Well situated for peace and quiet, despite building work next door. As a base for holiday "adventures" it can not be faulted. Clean, freindly, good bar, minimarket on the door step. Irish Annies round the corner, Codfather just up the street. The on site restaurant is MARVELOUS. yum yum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! special rates for residents. If you are looking for resort type accomodation, everything on site stc, then it's not for you. But this in Nerja, dont miss out on it, leave you hotel and give it a go. Elvis has been known to stay here.

The pool's tiny and freezeeeeeeing.......Dont get a room directly below the main air conditioning unit or you will have very early morning alarm calls!
