ceramics

by j.parry1

we visit nerja a couple of times a year and my wife is looking for a ceramics outlet. i know there a few little shops selling ceramics but she is looking for a larger outlet. we always hire a car so travelling within reason is not a problem. we visited an enormous one in the costa blanca when my parents lived there but im not driving that far. please if anyone could help it would be great, many thanks john parry.

Only found this forum today - hence the delay in replying to your original question. There is a pretty good ceramics outlet in Lagos, which is on the N-340, between El Morche and La Caleta, to the west of Nerja.

Re: ceramics

My husband and I were surprised to find a store right in nerja that was full of various ceramics. I was in heaven. It was called Ceramica Zayas El Barato and I think it was on Chaparil. I bought a few really pretty pieces. Sorry if this response is too late. we also boughth from a little place in or just ouside Orjiva. Beautiful pieces and good prices.

Travel Tips for Nerja

Balcon de Europa.

by Pauldelabar

When. (I say WHEN because EVERYBODY who visits Nerja has to see, at least once, the Balcon de Europa.) Anyway, when you take in the view from the Balcon, (Balcony of Europe), you may wonder at the life size bronze statue at the seaward end.

This is a statue of King Alfonso XII of Spain. He was the king who, upon visiting Nerja, stated that it was "The balcony of Europe" and lo and behold the Balcon as it stands now was built upon the ruins of a sixteenth century castle.

Mountain Village

by Janovwales

The village of Frigliana is an absolute must. It is approx 3km into the mountains from Nerja and the views on the way up are breathtaking and the village itself is beautiful. they produce their own wine here (which is more like sherry) and will blow your mind...lol

Cochrans. Large terraza. (Paseo Balcon de Europa)

by Pauldelabar about Cochran's

Spanish - Irish Cafe/Bar.
Cochrans is a bar that is down by the Balcon de Europa. Guinness is served and the piped music is very convivial. Plenty of space inside and on the terrace.

Price range:
A bit more expensive than average being near to the Balcon.
Atmosphere:
Being as this place is so big, you need to take your own company in.
Theme:
Inside is done as an old beer cellar. Outside a modern terrace.
Opening times:
Lunchtimes and most evenings.
Disabled notes:
Beware of the ramp entrance instead of stairs when you've had a few drinks. Smart Casual.

Toast & Sparrows

by Bwana_Brown about Cafeteria Hostal Marazul

With the intermittant rain showers we had in Nerja, it was very convenient that Hostal Marazul had an attached cafe/restaurant at ground level. Enclosed in a large plastic weather-proof arrangement attached to the main building, and taking up part of the sidewalk, it also was where the check-in/out activities took place. It seemed to have it's crowd of English 'regulars' whenever we ate there, particularly a long-haired older English gentleman who always sat in the same place and had a large mug of beer for breakfast while he smoked. He was never in much of a hurry. We also ate all three of our breakfasts in Nerja there - with our first visit consisting of toasted ham & cheese 'mixtos' (2.50 Euros each) washed down by the local con leche coffee with milk and sugar added to taste (0.70 Euros). Our last two breakfasts when we returned three days later consisted of the same drinks but we had switched to toasted buns with jelly for about the same price. The enclosure was not totally air-tight, with the result being that the local Sparrow population was able to infiltrate and would lurk at an adjoining table ready to pounce on wayward pieces of bread at any second (2nd and 3rd photos)! The restaurant had a good selection of dishes - we just normally keep breakfasts quite simple.

Las cuevas de Nerja

by ayesh

The caves of Nerja are probably its most famous attraction and a few kilometers away from the town center. In the mountains surrounding Nerja, these caves have developped in the past millions of years.
A visit to all the Halls that are open to the public will take around 45 minutes. That's about the time you need to walk between the stalactites and stalacmites of these karstic cavaties.
Only one third of the total cave system is open for touristic visits. The total volume of the Caves of Nerja is however much larger: 264,379.33 m3.
Some 25,000 years ago the caves were even inhabited...
