ronda car rentals

by blarneyman

We are renting a house in Gaucin for one week, March 17 - 24. we are arriving by train from Cordoba. I'm having zero luck finding a car rental that will deliver the car to Gaucin and pick up one week later which I would expect to pay for. Can anyone help me? It looks like we could get off the train in /ronda if we had to, rent a car and then drive to Gaucin. Do the following in reverse the next Saturday and catch the train to Granada. Help! Jimmy

The railway station at Gaucin is actually on the other side of the mountain. So you would need a taxi to get you to and from Gaucin. I think there is someone in the station place - called EL COLMENAR - who drives train passengers.
Maybe a pick up at Ronda is best. There must be several choices of car hire places in Ronda. I just looked up GOOGLED 'alquiler coches Ronda' and go this one http://www.malagaairportcarhire.com/online-booking/rates_es.aspx BUT try for more !

Travel Tips for Ronda

Classic Ronda

by meltrac

Driving through the steep narrow lane passing the "Palacio de Marques de Salvatierre (16th Century). The most interesting part is Ronda's Plaza de Toros one of the oldest in Spain inaugurated in 1785. Memorable is the Puente Nuevo (New Bridge), separate the old town and the new town.

El Tajo Gorge

by HORSCHECK

Ronda is divided by the El Tajo Gorge which is up to 100 m deep. The gorge has been gaped by the river Rio Guadalevin. South of the gorge the old Moorish part of the town called La Ciudad can be found whereas the newer part (El Mercadillo = Little Market) is situated to the north.
The best views of the gorge can be enjoyed from the New Bridge (Puente Nuevo) and from the Old Bridge (Puente Viejo).

Ronda Tourist Information

by barryg23

There is a useful Tourist Information at the Northern end of Plaze de Espana. We had little information about Ronda and no map in our guide book, so the free map they gave us here was very useful. They can also help with finding a hotel, train times and where to find a good Flamenco bar.

Walls of Ronda

by sandysmith

The Muralles , the extensive walls of Ronda, were built by the Moorish rulers in the 13th century. It originally enveloped the entire town, must have been very secure. Today, with the outer walls fallen (especially to the south, near the Arab baths), only two paths, two gates and one bridge offer routes out of the fortress city. The most impressive section, the westerly puerta del Almocábar, was only reconstructed in its original form in the late 20th century. Parts of the wall are still being rebuilt in the 21st century. We made an interesting detour from the part near the Arab bath around into the main town again. With the spring flowers it was a very pleasant walk and gave good views of the countryside and views back over Ronda's new town.

Gazpacho

by HORSCHECK

Gazpacho is a traditional Andalusian cold soup which is available in almost all local restaurants.

Nowadays it mainly consists of fresh raw tomatoes, oil, garlic and salt. The history of the soup is probably as old as the Andalusian hills, but in the early times it wasn't made of tomatoes but of other raw vegetables.

On a hot summer day the soup is really tasty and quenches your thirst.
