Resort Hotel on the Beach
A large resort away from the downtown concentration of hotels, shops, and crowds, the Playa has it all including a beachfront location. A very pretty pool with tables, chairs, and umbrellas, loungers and bar service is a nice spot to while away an afternoon. There is a full-service bar, two restaurants, fitness room, and daily activities. Renovated within the past two years, all rooms are nicely updated with free high speed internet access, mini-bar, and hair dryer. Rooms are very reasonably priced (I paid 90 euro/night in mid-June) which includes a huge buffet breakfast. I also heard rumors that they offer a discounted rental car if you book during the low season. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Unique Quality: Beach access, nice pool area, tennis courts, free parking, great breakfast buffet, organized tours that leave from the hotel each day, daily activities such as ballroom dancing, archery, table tennis; flamenco show on Sat night, live music on Tuesday night; activities for kids.

Sister hotel of the Duque de Najera.
Family atmosphere.
Down the beach, away from the center of town (about 20 min. walk/$6 cab ride).
Full of kids during the summer months. So gets pretty noisy.
Plus, live entertainment by the pool will keep you up if your room is nearby.
If you are staying here for work reasons, you might have trouble sleeping (at least during the summer, when the hotel is full of vacationing families).
Restaurants are pretty good. Bit pricey, but you can sit right by the beach...which is always nice.
Service is not great. Again, the employees don't seem too psyched. Very slow.
Kind of lame that they charge you to use a beach chair when you're spending lots of money to stay there.
Nice rooms. Great maid service. Very pretty grounds.
Surrounding neighborhoods are good for running, walking, and rollerblading.
Also, they rent bikes for cheap. I rode into town all the time.
