Al Andalus Palace

Stayed at the Al Andalus for six nights in June 2005. This is an excellent hotel and a very good choice if you are looking for clean, modern and reasonably priced accommodation in Sevilla. The restaurants are excellent, including some amazing deserts in the Italian one. There are two buffets at breakfast and a bar which is open all day. And for fast food fans..... Burger King is one block south of the hotel! The rooms are clean and spacious with 20 tv channels and dataports in the room. The bathrooms are reasonably large by Spanish standards and well appointed. The hotel also has wireless internet access. This is a big hotel and it is on the outskirts of the city. However, a cab from the airport is only 20 Euros and the #1 bus takes you to the Plaza de Espana and the city center every 10 minutes. It costs only 1 euro per trip (with 10-trip passes available for 5 Euros) and leaves from the northbound side of the avenue opposite the Real Betis stadium. The old town is 35 minutes away on foot, 15 on the bus, so the location of the hotel is not really a problem. In all, an excellent hotel at a good price and with good transport links to the center of Sevilla.

an excellent hotel

We stayed here for 5 nights at end of June and have nothing but praise for this hotel. Room was spotless, breakfast very good indeed & it had a large swimming pool which was great with temp in the 30's. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who was thinking of staying here.

Good value

I would recommend this hotel if you don't mind staying out of town and if, like me, it is important to you to have access to a swimming pool and a gym during you stay. Taxi costs about 7 euros to cross the town and go to Santa Justa station. Also, there are 2 buses going frequently (every 10-12mn ) into town (bus number 1 going to Plaza de Espana; also bus number 34 going to Puerta de Jerez , convenient if you want to take the 2.30 euros bus leaving Puerta de Jerez every 30mn to Sevilla airport ) .The 2 stops are only 5 mn walk from the hotel, ask reception for directions.
The swimming pool is clean and agreeable but can get crowded at certain times. The gym is small but ok. For the price I payed (40 GBP per night for a double breakfast not included), I think the hotel is good value for Sevilla. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the hotel Guadalquivir restaurant serves wonderful food, whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner. Don't leave the hotel without having tried once the 15 euros buffet, it really is worthwhile. During my trip I also went to Cordoba and Granada (see my review on the Alixares hotel in Granada). All 3 cities were very nice but I think Granada is by far the best one...

A very comfortable hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

While a bit out of the way of the heart of Seville, this hotel is nevertheless on a beautiful, grand boulevard which itself is quite a sight. It had all the comforts of a major hotel but with a reasonable price tag. Staff was friendly and helpful but not overly so.

Renting an apartment in Sevilla

by himmat

I am visiting Sevilla for 3 weeks in March and I am hoping to rent an apartment for the duration of my stay. I have posted my ad on Sevilla cragslist and tucasa.com and cambalache.es and the only responses I have received are from people asking for money wires and moneygram payments. From what I have heard, these payment methods are both unreliable and unsafe.

Could someone please advise me on a secure way to rent an apartment in Sevilla? I would either like to pay over Paypal, or just pay the money when I arrive.

Thanks,
Himmat

I have used this site to find rented holiday accommodation in Spain, France, and the UK. We have been very satisfied with the results.

http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/seville-province/s/1978/fa/find.squery

In some case the property we have chosen has been owned by a British person with a British bank account. That has meant a straightforward Bank transfer of the Deposir payment and the final balnce, without charge.

It can be a bit more complicated if the owner is a local person with a local bank account but we have managed to make the same arrangement incurring a small interbank payment - usually about £7 .Of course the owner has to give you their Bank account details in order to do this.
Many will request a security deposit and are often happy to accept this in local currency on arrival and return it as you leave.

You are wise to be wary about unusual method of payment but I do not think any owners will let a property without a deposit - the renter might not turn up and then they lose the booking and the rental income.
Hope you find something suitable.

I am surprised you are advertising, when there are so many apartments available on holiday rental websites which advertise on behalf of owners. Many of these owners have history and testimonials.
Surely no system is secure, even paying directly into a bank account, if you deal with someone who is determined to rip you off.
I am not familiar with PayPal, but does it not require commission to be paid by the receiver? By not paying anything until you arrive you wish someone to trust you to turn up, but it appears not the reverse.

Try booking.com They have quite a lot of apartments for rent in Seville. We use this site a lot and have never had any sort of a problem. You use your credit card to secure the booking but the rental is not charged until you check out. If you don't turn up, then first night's booking will be charged. Places vary according to cancellation and no-show. Recommend this site.

Our close friends rented a place in Sevilla that overlooked the Cathedral. They absolutley raved about how great it was. The flat was on two floors, with a balcony and slept 4+. If that is what you had in mind post back on here and I will see if I can get the particulars. Karl

Travel Tips for Sevilla

It gets very hot in summer

by annase

Climatically, the ideal times to travel to Sevilla are April to June and September to the first half of October. This is when temperatures are manageable and it doesn't get too hot. It will start to get unpleasantly hot towards the end of June and the beginning of July, when daytime temperatures can reach a sweltering +40°C.

There are quite a lot of tourists (both Spanish and foreign), but the locals sensibly flee the city for breezier coastal regions. I would not recommend Seville for kids or elderly during the peak summer months (July & August), since the heats can get pretty unbearable.

Take some sensible shoes because you are likely walk a lot and allow some leave way for swelling of your feet (You can't avoid swelling) and summer clothes, but I noticed that even when it was nearly +40, the locals tend to wear long skirts and trousers even if they were wearing short sleeves/no sleeves at all. There may be mosquitos in Seville. There were some in my room and I got bitten pretty much everywhere.
