One day trip to Seville - only have five hours!!!!
by gambit187
Hi to all
Me and my wife are going to Seville for a day from Portugal. However we only have five hours due to return travel departure.
Question is what are best things to see in this short time?
Thank you to everyone. Muchas gracias.

go to a cafe and have churros dipped in chocolate! also, take the bus around to the bull fighting ring.... it's a general tour of the city and you don't have to get off the bus.

Seville is magnificent. Five hours is not a lot of time, but you should at least see the Plaza de Espana, the Cathedral and the Golden Tower on the Guadalquivir River.

I would head for the cathederal, climb the Giralda (it's a ramp up, not stairs - which is worth seeing in itself) then visit the cathederal and the surrounding square and find somewhere to sit with coffee etc. and watch the world go by.

Thank you to everyone so much.
I have tow further questions:
Is everything near to each other - in particular how far away is the bull ring?
Also I wanted your opinion on the following tapas bars I wish to visit as they are cheap and hopefully good?
El Riconcillo
Taberna Coloniales
If you know any other cheap and authentic tapas bars (no tourist places please) please let me know. Thanks.

if you zoom in on the map, you can see where the bullfighting rink, or "plaza de toros" is. a bus goes right down paseo de cristobal colon. i don't know if you're flying into seville from portugal or taking a bus. my guess is bus. i THINK the bus station is on the other side of the river, from what i remember. it's not far.

Travel Tips for Sevilla
Sevilla
by sandysmith
Sevilla is the largest town in Southern Spain, the city of Carmen, Don Juan and Figaro. Its symbol the seville oranges can be seen all over the city and add colour to the warm vibrant city. Apart from wonderful architecture of the bullring the Cathedral with its landmark Giralda minaret its also a very green city with several parks andd gardens in the city centre to rest in.
Seville - history
by Kuznetsov_Sergey
It is considered, that the first settlement at the territory of present Seville has arisen in the III-d century before Christmas. The name of the city is received from Phoenician "sefele" - "lowland". In the II-nd century before Christmas Romans established the seaport Ispalis. Fortifications of that time in the barri named Macarena are kept till now (do you remember a popular song about Macarena?).
Neighborhood Saints
by acemj
Take the time to look at the walls around you and you are likely to see these tiled monuments to the local neighborhood saints. This one is located inTriana and many of them are quite decorative and beautiful.
The (Andalu) accent
by Faracy
For those of you that are unfamiliar with the accent in Southern Spain, you may be in for a bit of a surprise when you hear it. Andalucians famously drop the last consonents and often s´s in words.. for example someone in Madrid would say (los thapatos) a typical Andaluz would say (Lo sapato) its almost as if spoken plurals do not exist, you just have to know. They do not usually use a theta sound with c or z as many in other parts of Spain do, and will say
Epaña instead of España.. something to take note of. I think they speak pretty fast down here, particularly when excited.
This might be the Spanish equivilent to English in Nothern England.
Football/soccer
by fairy_dust
Most people (especially the men) in Seville are big football/soccer fans. Whenever Seville's team is playing, there are groups of people all over the streets wearing the team colours, waving banners, getting drunk, and acting rowdy.
