Sevilla is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever seen. The buildings have been impeccably maintained and there are gardens, trees and flowers everywhere. This city will take at least a few days to fully appreciate. As with anywhere you go in Spain, you are better off learning some Spanish before you go because there are not a lot of people who are willing to speak English.

This buses sometimes are a good option if you do not have much time to spend walking around, or it is raining or it is too hot.
We did not do it, as we walked all sevilla around, getting lost (on purposse) in all the little streets and walking all over the places we could manage, but the itinerary of these buses is veery complete, so if short of time, I recomend them
Ancient Rome and olive oil
by puerto_lover
Going up to Italica gives some extra historical perspective. this was the large town that Trajan and Hadrian knew so well. From this outer part of the Roman Empire vast quantities of olive oil were transported back to Rome in clay vessels - the amphorae - across the Mediterranean. Vast fortunes were made by those who controlled this entire process. In Rome there is a hill formed of millions of discarded broken amphorae, most of them would have originated from here or hereabouts. It's called Monte Testaccio.
Trajan was born here in September 53 A.D. he would rise to fame in battles and be crowned Emperor in 98 A.D. His travels took him all over the Empire including modern day Iraq which was now to become the latest province of the Roman Empire. However the peoples of Mesopotamia were not easy to subdue and Trajan's last days were soon to come as he returned to Italy and died in modern day southern Turkey. His chosen successor Hadrian then became Emperor in 117 A.D. and he too had his roots and family very much in Italica and the Roman Baetica Province.
