We are booking our apartment for our December trip to Seville. How is the area near Plaza de la Magdalena?
We would like to be in an area in walking distance to the sights, near great bars, restaurants, etc. Safe area too. There is a large group of us, and we are trying to find the right apartment.

Plaza de la Magdalena area would be great for exploring the casco antiguo of Seville. A short walk to the Plaza Nueva and then another short stroll to the Cathedral. Plenty of shops in that area. Can't go wrong. So if the apartment suits then yes - it sounds right.
In fact anywhere within 500 metres or so of the cathedral is great.
The two more touristy areas are ARENAL which lies between the Cathedral and the river and Barrio SANTA CRUZ which lies on the other side of the Cathedral and takes in the Alcazar. Both these two Barrios are where you find the tourist more often. In your area you will find more locals who will be out visiting their bank or El Corte Ingles (department store) or for general shopping needs. And also visiting their favourite place for a bite to eat ! But its not far to stroll.
I would be deterred from looking for an apartment further out of this neighbourhood, such as further north into Macarena because you feel a little more 'cut off' from the principal sights in Seville such as the Cathedral, Alacazar, Maestranza bull ring, the Plaza de Espana, the Maria Luisa park, the Torre del Oro, Palacio de Lebrija and so on and so forth.
But most importantly the friendly bars and 5places to have some tapas.
So if you find anywhere within 500 metres or less of the Cathedral then you cannot really go wrong !

I have checked both of those sites looking for apartments. We need a 3 bedroom apartment, so we have fewer to choose from.
What about the area around Casa de Pilatos?
Seville is located on the coast of Guadalquivir river in 85 kilometers from a confluence of the river to Atlantic ocean. It is surprising that from Seville - is far not seaside city, Columbus has gone discover America. I did not know this geographical fact earlier and my respect for Seville as to seaport of the world value have strongly increased.
Although AZULEJOS come in a variety of colors, they are most commonly associated with blue. Nobles and the merchant class adorned rooms, terraces and gardens of the palaces and mansions with Azulejos. The fashion for blue and white tiles is believed to be the result of imports of Ming porcelain from China.
The art of creating them was brought to Spain by the Moors. Azulejos comes from the Arab word az-zulayj meaning 'stone'. Later the art of glazing was further developed and the tiles had several colors in one tile.
I guess you could say that I was fascinated with the Azulejos. They were just so pretty.
I reckon the Torre del Oro (Tower of Gold), siting by the river bank, the second most distinctive tower in the cityscape. I read about the structure being part of the city’s defensive system, with golden tiles on the original roof giving the tower its name. Nearby is the white and ochre Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza, one of Spain’s oldest bullrings which dates from the 18th century. It houses a small museum that covers the history of bull fighting and contains narratives about the glory behind the polemic bullfights. But too bad the bulls don’t fight in December, only every Thurs Mar-Oct.
If there's something similar to a spiritual capital in the south of Spain, it might be close to Sevilla. You can tell that by the size of the city cathedral, or for the countless churches that configure Sevilla's urban landscape. But more that just visit the beautiful churches of Sevilla looking at the statues of the virgin, at the ceilings, at the architecture details, I would recommend you to pay close attention at the devotion of the people that use those temples. They live their religion in such a passionate way that it's unlikely they would leave you indifferent.
