This hostal was open 24 hours, had decent free internet, and free breakfast. I was traveling with two other friends and we got a room on the first floor that did not even lock. Our room was connected to two other rooms; everyone had to pass through our room to get to their rooms. One of the connecting rooms had a single in it where one of the staff slept (we woke her up strolling in at 5am).
They were fixing up some things when we were there so the showers were cold, but otherwise, even though I usually only pay 15 for a hostal, this place was nice & clean with lots of friendly backpackers. Also-the front desk knows English. Word to the wise-they were strict about letting our friends hang out w/us in the lobby let alone sneak them into our rooms.
Unique Quality: For a hostel, this place was very nicely designed- every turn of the staircase had huge wooden mirrors and the lobby was a comfy place to hang out.
Directions: It is walking distance from the bus station and the Catedral; off of Plaza Nuevo.
I intended to stay at Hostal Liz II but it was so popular that I have to settle for the nearby Hostal Nuevo Suizo. A double room with a sink only costs 4 280 Ptas per night. It is very well located, along Calle Azofaifo, which intersects Calle Sierpes, and operates by a friendly Spanish family. Nearby bars along C/ Sierpes offers cheap breakfast, giving you the opportunity to start your day with among local people.
