Flamenco not so great

Sharing the 17th century building that houses Hotel Alcantara, Casa de la Memoria occupies a large room on the street and adjacent to the hotel's entryway. About 90 card-table chairs are arranged on three sides of the small platform on which the dancer performs.
The first 40 minutes of the program were given over to singing (that sounded more like shouting to this lover of Bach and Schubert) with occasional interludes by the guitar accompanist. The night's one dancer then did two numbers and it was back to the singer. Then two more stompings around by the dancer.
All this time the use of cameras was banned. It had been explained that there'd be an opportunity for photos -- without flash -- during the final ten minutes of the show. During that photo-op the dancer danced and the singer sang one last time.
At least the price was right: €15 (US$22.50), €13 (US$19.50 for students). There was absolutely no dress code. People came wearing just about everything short of bathing suits.

Hotel Alcantara in Seville has a great location, very near the Cathedral. The entrance is shared with the great Casa de Memoria, which offers different types of flamenco performances each night at the bargain price of $12 in a beautiful Arabic patio setting. The hotel is clean, very quiet and attractive. The staff are extremely professional and helpful. They have a safe, with no charge. The windows of the room open onto a quiet courtyard, providing light and air. I had a small single that was comfortable, with an effective heater and hot shower. They offer a breakfast for 5 euros and cafe for 1 euro, which tastes good. It is a short walk to Maria Luisa park, the university/former tobacco factory, the Cathedral and Alcazar. It is on the border of the old Arab section of town.

This is a vey nice 2 star hotel. The location is super...right in the old Santa Cruz section and within walking distance of all the major sights and even walking to the river. The hotel staff were always very freindly, helpful and spoke English. At our email request they had reserved tickets for a Flamenco show and had them ready upon our arrival to the hotel. This is a very quite hotel. We had the matramonial room with a large bed. These rooms are very small. At first we were surprised how small, and the desk clerk showed us another room that was larger and had three single beds. We decided that we actually prefered the smaller room with the one larger bed. Our attitude was that we're not going to be in the room that much anyway. We were actually very comfortable in the room. We also had great water pressure and always hot water. We'd stay here again if ever in Sevilla.

A very very nice 2 star hotel. I tried all the hotels in my guide books but they were all booked. Reluctantly I selected this hotel for it's location but wasn't expecting much - however it was lovely! We went for a superior room and the room was huge and spotless. The bathroom was in 2 sections with a shower and bath. The breakfast was good for 5 euros and we were able to sit out on the relaxing patio whilst we ate. The staff were very helpful. I would recommned this hotel to anyone staying in Seville.

I stayed here last weekend. This place has personality. I'm giving it a good rating based mostly on the staff, who were exceptional.
Room: I had a single. It was clean and comfortable. It wasn't big, but for the price, I didn't mind.
Location: Getting to the cathedral from here isn't hard, but getting back is. As folks have said, getting lost is part of the fun in this part of town, and that's kinda true. At one point, though, this was kinda frustrating.
Staff: These folks were by far the most helpful out of the 5 hotels I stayed in while in Spain. Unbelievably, the guy was calling the train station for me to see about schedules and stuff. Really went out of their way.
Overall, I like it. (By the way, check out the nearby Gallos flamenco show, and reeeally don't miss Concepcion Delgado's walking tour of Sevilla. Best 10 Euros I spent!) Wish I would have spent more than one night in Sevilla.

The Alacantra is a two star hotel ideally located in the Barrio Santa Cruz. I stayed for one night in a single room off the clean pleasant lobby (#10). The rate was a reasonable 50 euros. The lobby is fairly large and comfortable with ample seating areas and book shelves filled with travel guides and other books in english. The young lady at the desk was very friendly and helpful with local recommedations. The room was quiet and cozy, but oddly divided equally between the sleeping area and the bathroom. It had a comfortable single bed, tv, but only a tiny window with no view. The bathroom was outfitted quite luxuriously with ceramic tile floors, walls and countertops and also quite large. Breakfast is served in the lobby in the morning but there is a 5euro additional charge. I would opt for a local cafeteria instead. The hotel is located in a quiet narrow alley. (Vehicle access is restricted) A couple of hundred yards to the right is a main thouroghfare of the Santa Cruz with has a number of restaurants and tapas bars. The same distance in the other direction toward the catheral is a lovely collection of tapas bars including the Theresa --perhaps the most charming tapas bar in all of Spain.
The Alacantra is an excellent budget option for staying in the Barrio Santa Cruz.

Charming hotel very near the cathedral and in the heart of barrio Santa Cruz. It is a calm, chic oasis to come back to. The room was a good size and very comfortable and the staff extremely polite and helpful. We couldn't fault it and would seek out this hotel for trips to Seville in future. Fantastic hotel, fantastic value.

Just returned from a 3-night stay at the Alcantara. I was with a friend and we had a double room with twin beds. It was surprisingly big and very clean, quiet and comfortable. The staff spoke English and was very helpful.
The location is great - 5 min walk to the cathedral and Alcazar. There is a flamenco place downstairs, as well as one just around the corner that was excellent (Los Gallos).
We took a taxi from the train station (8 euros), so we had no problem finding it. The hotel's website gives pretty good instructions on the location.
My only complaint would be that it would have been helpful if they had posted a sign in the lobby letting us know about the switch to daylight savings time. Otherwise, a great stay and great value!

We booked the Alcantara in large part based ont he reviews in TripAdvisor and were not disappointed. It is not too easy to find, although the map we picked up and the tourist information at the railway station
helped. It's about a 20 minute walk from the train station.
The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful, the room was quiet, overlooking the courtyard, and had comfortable beds. The location is very central to the cathedral and the Alcazar, both of which are realy impressive.
Breakfast at the hotel was good, with more than enough to eat. The hotel staff recommended a nearby restaurant for dinner, the Modesto, which was very good.
We took the 2 hour walking tour of Sevilla led by Concepcion Delgado, which was excellent. One gets a much greater appreciation of Sevilla by taking the tour.
We would also recommend going to the Museo de Bellas Artes (which is no longer free), the Plaza de Espana, and Maria Luica Park.

We are visiting Spain in May and have booked The Hotel Alcantara in Sevilla arriving from Barcelona on Vueling mid day. What are our options for transportation from the airport to our hotel?

Going the other way, I took a taxi. The hotel said it was the most efficient and the fare was reasonable. I don't remember what it was. but I drank a lot of cerveza the night before. Karl
