The couple that run this small multistoreyed pension very close to the main centre including La Giralda! dont speak any english but Id got so lost that when I stopped at the Ibis for assistance (and the loo) the guy there had helped so much by phoning this advertised place in my Lonely Planet and booking a room for me - even after all the further directions and markings on the map he gave me it still took me an hour and a half to find this place driving not far down the terrible roads of Seville - you wouldnt believe how easy it is to get lost on a so called 'straight ahead' piece of road!! and then thats it - there is so much one way system that its a night mare getting back anywhere near the right road again!
Luckily a major undegroung car park is near the main centre where the pension and La Giralda are so it was easy enough to have one easily located point nearby. Overnight parking was something like 12 euro until the next afternoon. A room for me in a comfortable double room with small ensuite and fan was 25 euro so all in all not a bad deal.
The woman running the pension had lots of plants around the bottom floor where her living area was and where my room came off which was nice really.
Unique Quality: No english - you will either have to speak Spanish or find someone who can to speak for you - ive since tried to book again myself from the UK by phone and I was pretty sure she was saying no vacancies but it was difficult to establish anything other than that - what night had no vacancies I dont know!
Directions: In between the main streets of Menendez Y Pelayo, Santa Maria la Blanca and Mateo Gago and the Cathedral Giralda
We stayed at Pension Fabiola in the old part of town. We found it in the Lonely Planet guidebook. It's one of those great little pensions run by a sweet retired couple. The door is in a little alley so it's easy to miss. Once inside, there's a courtyard in the center and the rooms are off a hallway that circles the courtyard. The rooms are small and simple but spotless and nicely tiled.
About $35 USD / night for a room with a double bed and a bathroom.
Unique Quality: No view, no pool no breakfast, but the price was right! The location was great too - it was right in the middle of everything. The owners spoke no English and we speak very little spanish, but they managed to sell us tickets to a flamenco show at a nearby night-club! We enjoyed it very much!
