Driving out from Sevilla

by neelv

I am renting a car from Sevilla on Saturday afternoon and will be dropping off at the Jerez airport on tuesday afternoon..

need some help planning an itinerary..

my thoughts were to drive out of Sevilla to Carmona then onto Granada (spend the night in Granada)

Visit Alhambra in Granada then drive out to Rhonda on Sunday (spend the night in Rhonda on Sunday)

Then drive via some white villages to Jerez and spend monday night there and catch our flight back home tuesday afternoon.

I have visited Malaga before... I was wondering if Gibraltar is worth adding to this trip. any other sugggestions?

thanks,
neel

Driving directly to Granada from Seville would take around 3 hours. So depends on the time of year and daylight etc. I think you already know that parking in the central city area in Granada is sometimes difficult and if your hotel has parking facility then it is a lot easier.
You can get some excellent driving directions and great maps on Google Maps. I use them all the time.
Personally I would need more time for this tour but if you are in a hurry then you could squeeze Carmona in but bear in mind that you are on the Cordoba road and not the main route to Granada. So this is adding to your itinerary time.
if you can see Granada at another time then perhaps concentrate on Carmona, Cordoba and then south via Antequerea to Ronda. Then look at driving around the 'pueblos blancos' area before reaching Jerez on the Monday. If you can and the weather is better than this week (which is wet wet wet) see places like Grazalema or frankly any of the out of the way towns and villages in the Serrania de Ronda. Also consider Arcos which is on a par with Ronda and has a historical old town. From Arcos to Jerez is only about 25 minutes.

IF you do decide to get to Granada then I would definitely have your Alhambra entry tickets pre booked using the SERVI CAIXA bank's booking system and choose carefully your entry time for Nasrid Palaces.

Hello..

thanks for the info...sounds like I will skip the rock this time and just concentrate on the white villages.

adding carmona from seville to granada seems to be only 20mins more, so I thought that was not bad. We will see how things go but granada is a must from what I am reading.

any recommendations on which bodega to visit in Jerez?

thanks,
neel

So I thought I had a car until I got an email saying that my booking was canceled due to lack of availability...

Now having a difficult time finding an automatic car for the last week of March? I have tried some online services and either not available or the prices are just ridiculous... trying to book something from Seville and return it in Jerez..

any thoughts or suggestions?

Another night view.
This square was inaugurated in 1929, it was constructed due to the Exposicion Iberoamericana.

Seville is home of flamenco, a Spanish dance rhythmed by hand claps while the dancers rock their heels incredibly quick on ‘tig-tag’ shoes. I was told the best performances are only staged in Seville. I bet those advisors could be right. The one show that I checked out was absolutely spectacular, at El Palacio Andaluz for 4 000 Ptas plus a drink and many ‘Ole’s.

I’ve got lots more to write but no matter how much more, Seville can only look gorgeous by appearance. Ascertain the lovely Seville yourself and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Santa Cruz Artisans

by agarcia

While in Sevilla, you definitely should not miss the chance of getting lost (but with a map in your pocket, if possible) in the narrow streets of Santa Cruz district. Apart from tourist souvenirs shops and overpriced bars, the neighborhood houses the workshop of many local craftsmen.
