Hotel Simon is a budget hotel but what it lacks in facilities is more than made up for in the old traditional style of the building and friendly staff. I shared a room with a friend and although it was basic, it was very clean, as was the bathroom.
The central location of the hotel is great and is close to many restaurants and bars.
I only had breakfast once as it was a roll and jam and horrible coffee. I prefered to go down the road for a decent cuppa and toast!
Unique Quality: Friendly staff, lovely entrance hall and beautifully tiled breakfast room.
A party of seven of us (rising to nine at one point!) stayed here: the youngest 7, the oldest 80. We all liked the hotel very much. That essential air of faded glamour: all kinds of antiques and curios on display - some beautiful, some plain eccentric - the rooms built around a cool central courtyard.
The hotel is an old merchant's house about 3 minutes from the cathedral - hard to beat for situation.
The bedrooms are clean and comfortable with good modern bathrooms. Our room (number 212) had beautiful tiles and a lovely stained glass window, which masked a dull view. Whilst the double rooms are slightly small, the triple room (my brother's family stayed in it - room 211) is just great for 3 people, and relatvely spacious.
I believe there are also some more expensive room, or rather, suites. I have also heard that the rooms on the top floor are plainer - no pretty tiling.
I read a few on-line reviews that suggested the rooms could be noisy. The rooms we stayed in were not, so it must depend where you are in the hotel. The ones round the front, overlooking the street, could get noisy at night and some rooms may get sounds of bell-ringing from the cathedral.
This is a very beautiful hotel but it IS one star, so you aren't going to get that international-hotel-feel or facilities (thank goodness).
There is no car parking at the hotel - no problem for us, but bear that in mind. There are public car parks nearby.
A simple breakfast is on offer at extra cost (coffee, croissant, cake, cereal and yoghurt were all on the menu) served in a lovely dining room a- glitter with chandeliers. One of Sevilla's best cafes (see my restaurant tips) is a few doors up and and there is a great tapas bar opposite.
Unique Quality: The hotel is built around a traditional 'moorish' courtyard that has been glassed in at the top. You actually WANT to sit here - so unlike many hotel lobbies! You'll be amongst plants, a fountain, lovely lights, and all the bustle of guests arriving and departing..... then you sweep up a grand staircase to the mezzanine with its paintings, old furnture, curios (everything from porcelain to a china alsatian dog!) The furnishing really make the place - this, combined with location (it couldn't be more central), really makes it special.
The Hotel Simon is a quaint 2 star hotel located just 1 block from the Cathedral. The rooms are small but basically all your doing here is sleeping. There is air-conditioning and the beds are quite comfortable. There is a cafe on the premises where breakfast is served. Though not included in the price of the room, the fee is small. About 3-4 Euros.
The inner courtyard is relaxing and a nice place to relax. This hotel I recommend based upon its low cost, locale and level of service.
Unique Quality: The hotel is a renovated 18th century mansion located in the heart of the city just one block from the cathedral. Based on location alone, this makes a great choice for those on a budget.

We sampled several tapas bars in the Arenal district together; my husband was keen to do his research for VT and selflessly sampled even more.
The picture is taken in Casa Morales, Garcia de Vinuesa 14: a traditional and atmospheric little bar which looks peaceful here, but gets really really lively at night.
We also sampled tapas at the simple but charming Bodegas Diaz-Salazar, no 20, in the same street, opposite Hotel Simon.
Great tapas and friendly atmosphere at both. Iif you try to order a "big serving" of tapas, you may cause confusion, as 'tapas' are little dishes by definition: a 'raciones' is the correct term for a larger portion. My husband tried to order a large portion of tapas for our party and was offered a large cheese in the confusion.
Some fabulous tapas to try:
* Jamon and cured sausage: this may be served with bread or the sausage may be in a sandwich like a tiny panini;
* Manchego cheese,
* Muntillitatas (baby squid).
* Revueltos: scrambled egg with a variety of other ingregiants, such as wild mushroom or prawn.
* mini kebab - called 'Pincho Moruno'
Some tapas bars specialise in fried fish.
One portion of simple tapas can be as little as 1 to 1.50 euros. Try them with 'Fino' (cold and dry sherry). The spanish beer is also recommended. Just fabulous!
Have any VTers stayed in the Hotel Simon Sevilla?
I can see that there are some on-line reviews on other sites, but nothing on VT.
Any inofration and feedback gratefully received
A friend of mine stayed there last year during Semana Santa
She liked it and said the location was excellent, staff and hotel good
she only had a single room . She had no complaints and would go there again
hope this helps
Thanks vey much - it does sound like a good place. I'll put up a tip about it when i get back! Thanks for the help.
