More about Don Paquito
Fabulous Fabulous Fabulous
Just returned from the hotel Don Paquito, Torremolinos, where we are now becoming regulars, having visited 5 or 6 times. We have stayed in many hotels on the Costa Del Sol, but NONE compare to this quaint yet modern hotel. The staff are absoloutley THE friendliest we have come accross, and the manager Pablo keeps a keen eye over proceedings. There is plenty of entertainment in the hotel next door, but because we are regular visitors it is generally the same as last time, but still of an excellent standard, and the whole family enjoys every minute of the holiday. The food is delicious, and that is coming from a fussy eater, so it must be good, always warm ( if it is supposed to be ) and fresh, and of good quality. Basically if your after a cheap break on the Costa Del Sol, then this IS absoloutley the best hotel in Torremolinos. See you soon Pablo and all the staff!!!
My partner and I stayed at the Don Paquito for 7 nights, and we can both honestly say it's one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in.
The staff were friendly and helpful and checking in/out was hassle-free. The room was spacious with a lovely view of the pool and surrounding area and everything was spotlessly clean. The maid also came daily to change the bedding and towels which was a bonus.
We opted for Bed and Breakfast so we only experienced the breakfast food on offer, which was quite decent. There was a large selection of pastries and cold food, and the choice of a hot breakfast too. There was plenty of it too so supplies never ran low!
The reception area also had lots of information and leaflets about the attractions in Torromolinos and Malaga which helped us in deciding where to go and what to do.
Observations on earlier reviews
I have just had a repeat stay in the Don Paquito and imho is excellent value for money. However I can make some corrections and observations on previous reviews.
I ate in the restaurant most nights and waited for a table only once. There are myriads of restaurants locally and in the town centre so don't book half-board for more eating choices.
There are other ways of getting to the town centre besides walking up the hill or up steps. A local bus stops outside the hotel and costs €1.10; a taxi to the centre costs €6; or walk 500m then take the public lift (ascensor) for €0.50.
A taxi to the airport costs €15 and the rate is fixed (taxis don't have meters and drivers carry a chart showing rates for various journeys). If you pay more then you are being over-charged.
superb hotel, helpful and friendly staff who went out of their way to assist us. All areas of hotel spotlessly clean. Food and service excellent. Close to beach, shops and bars. We stayed in four star hotel in Torremolinos February this year which was also excellent, but we will certainly choose to return to Don Paquito for the personal service we received. In the four star we were just a room number, here the guests are recognised and acknowledged. For some people a downside could be the lack of entertainment, but there are lots of neighbouring hotels with entertainment every night which we visited, and also the local bars had entertainment. The bar and lounge at the Paquito is especially friendly, and being a smaller hotel you have every opportunity of meeting other guests. Our friends came over from Benalmadena on several occasions to visit us and absolutely loved this hotel, - their hotel was so big and noisy, with children running riot, and after visiting them we were so pleased to return to Paquito. Cant wait to return.
The standard of food lets this hotel down
I would never stay at this hotel again. Although the staff were, in the main, friendly and helpful and the hotel itself is in an Ok location and its clean Im afraid the food was inedible. The selection of food is very poor, it was always cold, no matter what time we went for dinner and some of it didnt look fit for human consumption. Very disappointed as this was the first time we had ever done half board and we certainly wont do it again. We ended up having to eat out as I couldn't face dinner in the hotel most nights. Breakfast isn't much better - we were served garlic mushrooms one morning!!
The other downside of the hotel is the walls are like paper. We had a couple of early nights as we hired a car to do a bit of touring and were unfortunate to be right next door to the loudest snorer on the Costa!
All in all, very disappointed and I wont be recommending this hotel (or indeed Torremolinos) to anyone, unless I dont like them!
Outstanding customer service
This is a small hotel where you are treated as a person, not a number, by all the hotel staff. The rooms are a decent size, have a small fridge, the bed very comfortable, air con. available and a telephone and flat screen tv are all included. The bathroom benefits from a good power shower and hairdryer. Upon arrival there is a complementary bottle of water in the fridge (welcome after a long flight). Towels and bed linen are changed daily.
Although the hotel was busy it never felt crowded and it was quiet through the night- no shouting in the corridors and banging doors etc. Most of the guests were couples of all age ranges. There were no large groups of 18-30's and I would say that this hotel would be too tame for them.
The choice for breakfast is extensive, from cereals and fruit to the traditional fry-up. Evening meals reminded me of school diners- nothing wrong with them but hardly something to get excited about. However the resort has plenty of places to eat(I would recommend the Jardin across the road) .
The location is excellent with the beech a 1 minute walk from the hotel front and the main town a ten minute stroll away. There is a decent size pool at the hotel with sun loungers available.
In conclusion this hotel has everything for a relaxing holiday and is in an excellent location to enjoy the sea front and the town. It provides excellent value for money.
Just returned from six day stay at this superb hotel which really warrants a 4 star rating for its service delivery and hospitality.
Great location, literally a one min walk from beach, bars and restaurants but in a quiet area that allows for a restful stay.
Cleanliness - housekeeping standards some of the highest I have ever seen
Staff - seem to have permanent (and genuine - not forced) smiles and wonderfully helpful
Food - very good - those staying on B&B or HB packages have no need to worry - good choice of well prepared dishes daily.
My room (503) was a bit 'compact' and the bathroom was tiny. Great balcony though with nice view of pool and the sun bathes the room from about 11am until well into the evening. My parent also stayed and their room was much bigger (310)
Overall - I would have no qualms about staying there again, about recommending it to friends (many of whom are hoteliers as Indeed I am) or about making a reservation there for family.
More than satisfied
After reading all the reviews about this hotel, we were a bit sceptical that a 3* hotel could be this good. But it was more than good , it was great in every way. The staff are the most polite and helpful we have ever experienced in Spain, nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are the cleanest it is possible to be, and although they may be on the small side ,they are bright and airy with all amenities you could want including a fridge, hairdryer and flat screen t.v. with sky news. The pool area is also spotlessly clean with a good size pool and plenty of sunbeds. If there were to be any little moans regarding this hotel it would be about the food. Although there was always plenty of choice and always presented well it became a little repetative after a week. The salads were really fresh, the soups tasted homemade, and you could put on the pounds just by looking at the sweet counter. My only problem was that it seemed you had to have chips with everything (no mash or boiled potatoes). The hotel is situated in a flat part of the resort and only 5mins from the beach. The town centre is about 15 mins walk up a gradual incline or you can take the lift for 50 cents which is about 10mins walk away. We booked this hotel after reading the reviews and were not disappointed, I hope this review will help others to use it. This is a 3* small, friendly, clean hotel which should be upgraded to 4*.
Good quality small hotel
This hotel does what it says on the tin. It is a good quality small 3 star hotel in a good location about 50m from the promanade in the Playa Mar area of Torremolinos
The rooms are smaller than most hotels but well furnished. The beds are comfy and the bathroom has a really good power shower with plenty of hot water. The rooms are cleaned and towles changed daily. The balconys are small but just large enough to accomadate a small table and two chairs. All the floors are tiled and there is some noise at night when people return to their rooms . All rooms have air con but being November we only needed this twice at night.
There is not any entertainment at this hotel but there are plenty of local bars and hotels some with entertainment in the area .We thought the drinks were overpriced for a 3star hotel 1.75€ for a small bottled water, 3.15€ for 1/2 ltr local beer,1.75€ small black coffe. We have paid less this year at 4star hotels in the area. We did the same as most people and went out for a drink.
There is T.V in the room but the only English channels are Sky News,C.N.N. and Euro Sport.
The food is well cooked but a little repetative. The soup seemed to be homade and really good and there was a choice of potatoes boiled, chips, roast e.c.t. The main problem with the resterant is that it is not really large enough and we had to que to be allocated a table.
The hotel is kept very clean and the hotel is well maintained. It is good value for money. We would return for a short winter holiday but not for our main holiday.
This hotel was lovely except for the fact that I am a life-long non-smoker and the hotel made only one allowance for me - the restaurant was non-smoking. As we booked in I asked if my room was non-smoking and the receptionist said no but the maid would remove the ash-tray if I wanted! The room smelled but I did open the balcony door so it did improve. While sunbathing I moved if someone lit up but did not have that option when walking into reception as the lounge was right there and the smoke could not be avoided.
Staff were helpful, areas and rooms clean and food plentiful. Location was excellent for the beach but to get to main town it was either up hill or up steps and as an asthmatic it was a bit of hard work but the town looked lovely with the Christmas lights.
Hotel about 10 minutes by taxi from airport and it cost 20 euros.
