Travel Tips for Torremolinos

STREET DANCING -- SALSA -- TANGO

by LoriPori

One beautiful, sunny afternoon, on one of our many walks to the centrum of Torremolinos, we were drawn by the lively music being played. We followed the sounds to a square where many folks were gathered. They were being entertained by couples, some in beautiful dress, dancing away. It was a joy to watch. We found ourselves tapping our toes and clapping our hands along with the music. What a country!!

Indian

by zizkov about Golden Curry

Indian similar (though not identical) to UK style Indian - good choice, good vegetarian range. Fairly plush. Upstairs, has outdoor balcony seating. For other vegetarian choices (though I did not eat there) try The Red Parrot - English pub with a more advanced menu than most of them.

ROASTED CHICKEN ON THE SPIT

by LoriPori about CHICKEN LAND

Many at the Bajondillo were raving about the roast chicken - asador de pollos - that you could take-out at CHICKEN LAND. So one night Hans and I did just that. We ordered a whole chicken which was 7.50 Euros and a medium order of patatas 2.50 Euros. We asked if they could cut it in half for us which would make it easier to divvy up between us. The chicken was delicious, especially the breast meat which was so tender and juicy. The patatas were also very good. So a very reasonable meal for 10 Euros.
They had an eat-in special offer going on - 1/2 roast chicken (pollo asado), chips (patatas) and salad ( ensalada ) for 4.90 Euros which is a very good deal.

Update: Friday February 19, 2010
Take away - Tambien para llevar
Had the delicious roast chicken on the spit again, but this time ordered half roast chicken for 4 Euros plus a medium patatas for 2,50

Take the steps to the center and Calle San Miguel.

by Regina1965

From the Bajondillo beach there are a lot of steps leading to Calle San Miguel, which is the main shopping street in Torremolinos and leads you straigth to the center of Torremolinos. Walking along the Paseo Maritimo, coming from the Malaga side, take a right turn at the sign "Subida Torremolinos Centro" and "Calle San Miguel Iglesia" and follow the passageway with a lot of shops. At the very beginning it doesn't look like much, but take a left turn for the steps or walk straight up to the lift (see my next tip). These steps have different names but will lead you up to Calle San Miguel. If you are fit enough it is fun taking the steps having a look inside the small shops, of which there are many along the way. There are also some restaurants along the steps. But take care if it is raining as the steps can get quite slippery.

"Veladilla" - the neighbourhood festival.

by Regina1965

"Veladilla" means neighbourhood festival, and lasts for 3 days. The photos are from my neighbourhood in Bajondillo, but I also attended other festivals in the center of Torremolinos and in other places of Torremolinos. The festival in Bajondillo is called Veladilla de Verano "Santa María del Mar" and is held between Chiringuitos "Los Pescadores" and "La Macarena".

Now, the fun starts in the evening with food and drinks, singing and dancing and lasts until the wee hours of the morning - which meant that nobody in this area could sleep for 3 nights. The festival starts on the 21st of August - 23rd of August (or the 3rd weekend in August), so bear that in mind when booking a hotel in this area. But this is also a lot of fun - it only lasts for "too long" :D that is for us who are not 20 anymore.
