The shocks came fast, no balconies and no terrraces, no pool, once quaint backstreets now ressembling fast growing slums, faint stench from sewers on the blasting hot air, even the grafitti was tired.
The building crumbling losing, its deco- morrocan beauty, held together by cement plasters, and sporting an odd wall of purple lilac paint, the edges wobbling aginst the stark NEW white artex walls.
In desperate need of guidance and money, this Hotel would be a jewel, an example of Spanish architecture, sanwiched betwix cultures.
The friendly staff in stark contrast to thier environment, shell shocked by the recession ? and failing sparkle of the sol, a credit to thier training, that they solely maintained the expected linen-freshness of sun drenched climes.
The crackle of broken tiles like loose teeth in the hallways and the stale room smell greeted our tired footsteps, forlorn and with a dissapointed kid, eager to have plunged into the cooling pool, we entered our cell, and immediately inspected the bathroom.
Cracked bidet and rusty bath, retained a former occupants black curly hair and prising open the guillotine like window, we enjoyed our view, a vagrants market beneath and serronaded by mini radios, we realised this was not going to be as advertised.
A word to the wise, Spain is suffering and she wears her lipsick on her teeth, and unless you want to banquet at Miss Havershams wedding table, look further than the pics, ask and ask and then ask, its not the cost, just to the purse, but the moments, they need to be memorable for all the best reasons. Come on Spain you used to sparkle.
Unique Quality: Friendly and ammenable staff.
Directions: Up tiring hill from beach and head for the grafitti.
Driving back home from La Manga del Mar Menor, we decided to stop in Torremolinos. It was August, a Saturday, and having no reserve, getting a room should be difficult.
Upon arrival I borrowed a computer and in www.booking.com found a double room in this hotel for... 40 €.
I booked it, of course.
Well, the hotel is a reasonable three stars, with a problem - it is hard to reach, in a pedestrian and interior street, with no parking facilities.
We had no meal in the hotel (breakfast was not included, as expected - the regular price indicated in the room's door was... 140€ and not the excepcional price that we paid).
