TORREMOLINOS " PICASSO"
by LoriPori
Where once had been the familiar blue and white Torremolinos fishing boat, there is now the "PICASSO" reproduction of the 'two dancing ladies'. Though I do miss the boat, this really is a beautiful replacement. You can just feel the joy of the two ladies dancing on their pedestal. Located right near the Tourist Information Center in the Plaza De Lido ( Square of the Lido ).
We saw a young couple imitating the position of the arms and we offered to take thier picture together which they appreciated.
NERJA -- "BALCONY OF EUROPE"
by LoriPori
Wednesday, March 21, 2001
We had heard that the upcoming place to be was NERJA , a beautiful, genuinely Spanish small town, with a population of about 20,000.
Built on a ledge, it offers a splendid view of the varied surroundings so typical of the area.
Nerja was called Narixa -- rich with water -- and exotic fruits such as chirimoya, kiwi and avocado are grown here.
Known as the "Balcony of Europe", Nerja is located 52 kilometres east of Malaga
The most decorated chiringuito on the beach :D
by Regina1965 about El Velero.
El Velero is the most decorated chiringuito (beach bar/restaurant) on the beach of Torremolinos. I just love it, the gardens have got a lot of statues and ponds with gold-fish and frogs and in the evenings it is lit up right down to the ocean and the path leading from Paseo Marítimo to the beach has got a strawberry scent :D I spent many evenings at the restaurant and in the garden.
We were always very satisfied with the food at the restaurant, the beef was excellent and everything was up to par, the service was outstanding, even if the waiters had been on their feet for way too long and always extremely busy, then you were served with a smile and a joke. Only once the food was not ok, it was a shrimp salad which had limp salad, frozen shrimps and everything was wrong with it and we left it there almost untouched. But due to the many times we had been satisfied with the food we didn´t complain.
¿Hablas Español?
by blint
In Torremolinos you can find any restaurant you like from all over the world, typically Indian, Japanese, Thai, Kebabs, English, German, but also Danish and Finnish. There are a few Spanish restaurants too.
Remember if you go into a restaurant or bar in Torremolinos, be prepared to speak English. Some bar and restaurant owners/workers don't even understand "how much is a pint" in Spanish. That is to say No hablan Español (nada de nada).
You will find the restaurant menus in English and the majority in Spanish too.
Don't worry if you don't speak Spanish you don't need it here, worry if you don't speak English!
There are many bars where you can get any type of English beer which cost about 2.50 euros for a half pint and 6 for a pint. You can even get Bitters and ales which aren't available in the non resort spots of Spain.
Plaza de Cantabria
by suvanki
After our lunch Sonja, Gilly and myself headed off to explore more, and to find the restaurant that Gilly had planned that we'd all eat at tomorrow lunch for our 'Winter Warmer meet'
We hadn't been walking far, when the heavens opened, and we ran for cover from the downpour. We were joined by Rob and Margaret.
The Plaza de Cantabria was surrounded by modern buildings in the Moorish/Andalucian style of architecture, which was handy for us, as we could shelter in the covered walkways, but watch the rain outside.
From my shelter, I could see the attractive fountain/ centrepiece of this plaza, where a notice pointed out that the water wasn't suitable for drinking.... "Water, water, everywhere, nor any drop to drink"!!!!
There were avenues with palm trees, this was feeling more Andalucian (apart from the rain)
Around our feet, a water feature was forming! Rain water was starting to gently cascade down the tiled steps - luckily the precipitation from the skies above started to abate, and we headed on our way, dodging puddles and doing diversions around flooded areas near the road edge.
It wasn't too long before it had stopped.
