More about Sol Don Marco

Playa del Bajondillo and Paseo Maritimo.

by Regina1965

Playa del Bajondillo is the beach next to Playa de Playamar and goes all the way down to the cliff dividing the beaches in Torremolinos. This beach has got a lot of restaurants and cafés, shops and stores. From the Paseo Maritimo in Bajondillo you can reach the city center by the steps to Calla San Miguel and Camino de la Playa (see my tips on that). The hotels in this area are Hotel Bajondillo, Aguamarina, Hotel Don Marco and Don Pedro and Hotel Meliá C. del Sol to name some of them.

The beaches at Bajondillo have got a lot of pebbles in them, especially right at the end of Bajondillo next to the rock, that is all pebbles. The beginning of Bajondillo is the best and cleanest part of the beach, in my opinion. But there is a lot of activity at the pebbly part, see my picture on what there is on offer there.

There is a lovely bright blue boat by the end of Playa del Bajondillo and Camino de la Playa, with TORREMOLINOS written on it, a good reminder that Torremolinos used to be a fishing village before the surge of tourists found out about this lovely place.

I have added more pictures from Playa del Bajondillo in a travelogue here.

Playa de la Playamar and Paseo Maritimo.

by Regina1965

There are 5 beaches in Torremolinos, Playa de Los Álamos, Playa de Playamar, Playa del Bajondillo, Playa de la Carihuela and Playa de Montemar. I have added tips on all the beaches apart from the first one which is closest to Malaga.

Playa de la Playamar is a lovely beach with golden sands, a palm grove, restaurants and cafés. The ocean is lovely to swim in at Playamar, you can reach the bottom easily just outside the shore and swim just a little bit further for a deeper sea. I stick to the reachable bottom, being a bit afraid of the ocean. There are some beautiful shells to be found in the waves in this area by the palm grove. In the afternoon the anglers put up their fishing gear there, so take care to move a bit further up the beach as they will almost fish on top of you (honestly).

By the Paseo Maritimo there is Hotel Sol Principe and Principito (see my tip on that), Isabel, Don Marco and a couple of other hotels. A lovely area. Last year I watched an outside movie-theater on the beach of Playamar. There are a lot of stores, shops and restaurants in this area, and Avda. de Benyamina with all its big blocks-of-flats which look like pillars.

By Plaza Comunidades Autonómas is "Informacion Turistica", or The Tourist information center, where you can get leaflets and some information on Torremolinos. On the Plaza itself there is the breathtaking homage to Picasso "Mujeres corriendo por la playa" which is the centerpiece of the Paseo Marítimo (see my tip on the statue).

I have added more pictures in a travelogue here as the tips only allow for 5 pictures.

Hi! hope the weather improves for you over there!

I get weather info for anywhere by typing place name followed by "weather" in the address line. Like "Torremolinos weather".
First result is often non-clickable, gives basic short-term forecast.

For more details, I often use (it's usually among results of my first search on address line.)
When on, at the place I'm interested in, I click "More info" and get an extended forecast.

Saying this to help you find out about weather anywhere, immediately, with just two words :)

Travel Tips for Torremolinos

by keeweechic

Fish and seafood are definitely the most popular dishes in Torremolinos. It can be salted as with sea bass or Dorado, fried, or roasted on skewers like the famous Sardines. Most of the fish is caught around the coasts of Malaga.

February, 2010
A few times during our stay at the Bajondillo in Torremolinos, we had dinner in their restaurant, CAFETERIA BAJONDILLO, especially on the rainy days, when we didn't feel like going out into the rain. Most dishes were under 10 Euros. I really like the spaghetti dinner - great sauce ( I usually ask for extra). I've also had the 1/2 chicken dinner which comes with patatas. They also have pork chops and a fish and chip dinner - all good - all reasonably priced.
They offer breakfast buffet in the morning. I think it was 8 Euros. Not bad, but I don't think it's worth 8 Euros. 1/2 Pollo Asado - half roasted chicken - Euro 5,90
Espag. Bolonesa - Spaghetti Bolonesa - Euro 5,50
Patatas Fritas - Plate of French Fries - Euro 2,50
Cafe - Cup of coffee - Euro 1,30

Calle San Miguel

by suvanki

This is the main shopping street in Torremolinos. It's known as Europe Street by the locals due to the fact that this is where the holidaymakers head to, but this pedestrianized street is also a popular shopping area for Spaniards.
On this occasion, we weren't looking to shop, but instead were looking for the tea shops to enjoy afternoon tea - L'Epanta (No 54) was the place that we chose-See my Restaurant tips. We returned here again later-This time, there was a party of 10 VTers who enjoyed the ambiance and the goodies on offer.
Calle San Miguel was one of the areas that received a face lift during the renovation programme.
A nice place to wander along. The flooring is quite attractive with terracotta tiles and inlaid patterns with lighter coloured tiles.
We'll return here later during the tour....
