A walking tour of Ubeda - 6 - S. M. de los R. A.
by alucas
Opposite the Ayuntamiento is an imposing church – Santa Maria de los Reales Alcazares. Unfortunately the church has been closed for restoration for several years, so we were unable to go inside. The church dates mainly from the 13th century, and is built, like so many, on the site of a mosque. Unusually, the main frontage faces north, but inside the buildings appear to be arranged in a square, around what I understand is a fine gothic cloister. The third picture is of the east door.

Morales House
by Carmela71
Here used to live the Morales nobility of the 16th century and in this days is on renovations.
It is also called the house of the hanged, it seems to be a history of a king that hanged a man that was founded with the wife of one of his best friends.....
Iglesia de San Pablo
by Aitana
This is one of the oldest churches in Ubeda, possibly built in the Visigoth period.
One of the fronts (on Cervantes st.) is Romanesque and the other (Plaza 1 de Mayo) is Isabeline Gothic. The tower is Renaissance. There is a Renaissance fountain attached to the apse.
Inside, the predominant style is late Gothic and outstand the Plateresque grillwork of the chapels.
Until the XV century the city Council used to meet there. The old Town Hall is in the same square in the centre of the old city.
St. John of the Cross Oratory - Oratorio
by spanishguy
St. John of the Cross (1542-1591) is one of the Catholic Church doctors and one of the main mystics saints. He died in Úbeda, at St. Michael Monastery, and them a Oratory devoted to him was built next to this building in the 17th century. Actually he is not buried here, but in Segovia. There is a museum about St. John inside the Monastery.
