Festival of the Renascence June 2004
by Carmela71
From the 14 till the 20th June is the Festival del Renacimiento in Ubeda. I will have to miss this year.
During that week Ubeda remembers its importance during the 16th century and offers concerts, expositions related to that time. Also there are typical dinners of that century.
You can also enjoy some typical markets and see the handcraft working .....
Palace of the Rambla
by Carmela71
The Palace of the rambla from the Marquis de Ramblas constructed in the 16th century, a hotel in this days. I must check prices here, as I read that the accommodation here deserves as they had maintained the style in the rooms.
And now we go direct to the Tourist Office to get a map of the city and information about the area.
Plaza de Andalucia, Ubeda
by elucas
Plaza de Andalucia is on the edge of the old town, where it merges with the more modern parts of Ubeda. There is a selection of shops and cafes in this area. There are some rather attractive Moorish style windows just by the chemist (Farmacia).
Beneath the Plaza there is now an underground car park - this seems to be a popular method of solving parking problems in Spanish cities - dig up a square, install an underground car park, and then reinstate the square.
Two buildings of note on the Plaza are the Inglesa de la Santisima Trinidad and the Torre del Reloj (Clock) which has been installed into a 14th century defensive tower.
A walking tour of Ubeda - 9 - S C del Salvador
by alucas
Next to the Parador is one of Ubeda's finest buildings, the Sacra Capilla del Salvador.
It was commissioned by Francisco de los Cobos, a local man who rose to one of the highest positions in the land, Imperial Secretary to the Emperor Charles V of Castille. Whilst Charles was off fighting in Europe, Fransisco was left to manage Castille, and must have done a good job whilst making a fortune for himself at the same time. He commissioned and paid for several buildings in Ubeda.
The Sacra Capilla del Salvador was built to be Fransisco's funeral chapel, and he is buried there along with his wife. The interior is well worth a visit, but unfortunately you are NOT allowed to take photos inside (strictly enforced by a watchful custodian).

Walls - Murallas
by spanishguy
The walls between the East part of the city and the hills still being untouched since the Moorish ages (Middle Ages). Some gates stand there, among them there are the gate of Granada, of Saint Lucy and of the Flagstones.
Las murallas entre la parte Este de la ciudad y los cerros continuan intactas desde los tiempos de los musulmanes (Edad Media). Algunas puertas están en pie, entre las cuales veis en mis fotos la puerta de Granada, de Santa Lucía y del Losal.
