Camino de Ermitas
by duncanlbrown
The Hermitage trail - starts from Tella, is about 30 mins of walking on good paths around a series of Ermitas - litttle chapels on the hillside. Very good views, interesting visitors' books and a very pleasant stroll to wind down if you've just been up the high Pyrenees.
The hidden Valle de Gistain
by duncanlbrown
Driving up this valley, you think you are going to get to a dead end any minute. But suddenly you appear in a beautiful green open space. Lunch at San Juan de Plan - there are 3 or 4 places all serving great food. Go up to the top at Gistain - the men of this village once held a festival looking for wives (it was successful). I guess nowadays you would look on Ebay! Then back down to Plan, a cracking wee chuch and a moody view over the cemetery. Good afternoon out - you need a decent car coz the roads are brillant / scary depending on your point of view.
Beautiful Bielsa in the Mid-Pyrenees, Huesca
by Senoritasmile
"The land that time forgot"
If you're ever close to this area, you must not miss out on the amazing landscape. Scarily high mountains, cascading watefalls, fast-flowing rivers, crystal clear lakes and the quaint town of Bielsa perched amongst it all. There are numerous hiking trails but having read their descriptions in the hotel brochure, I would say these are more for 'intrepid hikers' and mountaineers.
Great location for a romantic, get-away-from-it-all break.
"Bielsa Parador -wow!"
This has got to be one of the best paradors in Spain. It is located at the end of a 16km drive alongside a fast-flowing river that leads into a cul-de-sac of mountains with France on the other side. Most rooms overlook the 2000ft high waterfalls and bathrooms are overflowing with some great goodies : )
Rooms were large and beautifully decorated, restaurant was great with a good selection of nicely cooked and presented dishes -wild boar stew with fruits, Lamb & Wild Mushroom Risotto...... I loved this place and can't wait to go back.
