The Albergue in Santa Cilia de Jaca: Day 12 – Santa Cilia de Jaca

by into-thin-air

Santa Cilia de Jaca is the first town after Cami San Juamme 2 joins The Camino Aragon (We had walked The Camino Aragon a few years earlier so this was the end of our Camino) – There is an Albergue in Santa Cilia de Jaca and we popped in here to get our Cello, but as we were on a morning train from Jaca to Zaragoza we elected not to stay there, but to instead catch the bus to Jaca and stay there.

There is also 3 inexpensive Casa Rural’s listed in Santa Cilia de Jaca, so no shortage of accommodation.

However, we stayed in Jaca

There was also 2 expensive accommodation options mentioned in the guidebook at Santa Cruz de la Seros 6.6k before Santa Cilia de Jaca, One being a Hostal and one a Casa Rural, There was also a Casa Rural mentioned in the guidebook at Binacua 2.2k before Santa Cilia de Jaca

The Albergue in Ena: Day 11 – Ena

by into-thin-air

On arrival in Ena, we discovered it was Fiesta – There was a Huge Marquee erected next to the church with a bar in. A kind villager directed us to the Albergue which was open, Nice Albergue with well fitted out kitchen and huge dining area downstairs and dormitory upstairs. Also good Hot showers and clean toilet. The biggest problem we encountered was that the normal bar in Ena was closed because of the Fiesta and the bar in the marquee didn’t have any food other than nuts and crisps – So our dinner was nuts and crisps – With hindsight we should have popped into the panaderia in Estacion de Santa Maria y la Pena. The other slight problem that we had was that there was a live band struck up at midnight in the marquee and was still playing when we left at 07.00 – So we had both a hungry as well as a sleepless night – But being there for the village Fiesta was still an interesting experience with entertainment for all, cards for the older residents and the band for the younger ones (With a lot of their friends)
The Albergue was opened in 2009 and is again Donitivo

There was also an Albergue mentioned in the guidebook at Botaya – Tel 974 359853

The Albergue in Sarsamarcuello: Day 10 - Sarsamarcuello

by into-thin-air

The only available accommodation in Sarsamarcuello is the Albergue. (There are two other options in Loarre, 4.2k before Sarsamarcuello, one Casa Rural (Listed as inexpensive) and one Hospederia (Listed high price) This Albergue is both small and very nice, We were directed to the key holder by a kind chap as we walked into the village and a young lady came and opened up the Albergue and gave us our cello. As the guidebook had said that there was no food (Or bar) in Sarsamarcuello, we had bought some in Loarre, so we cooked this in the well equipped kitchen in the Albergue, The dormitory (8 beds) was also nice as was the hot shower and clean toilet. Then we discovered that there was a new bar, so we were able to go there for a couple of beers to help rehydrate, this new bar is in the social club at the bottom of the village, just beyond the church – Very friendly bar with some food available, but I would still advise Perigrino’s to buy food in Loarre just in case ;-)
The Albergue was opened in 2009 and is again Donitivo

Sarsamarcuello is a very Perigrino friendly village, I was sitting outside the Albergue having a cigarette and a kind villager Popped into his house and brought be out an ice cold can of beer – Heaven as it had again been around the 43 degrees mark !!!!

The Albergue in Bolea: Day 9 – Bolea

by into-thin-air

We chose to stay in the Albergue, The key is held at The Bar / Restaurant Rufino in the centre of the town (Small town) and the Albergue is part of the sports-Hall on the outskirts of town. There was a little confusion about the key as we were initially told that there was another Perigrino who had taken the key, but after waiting around for a while I walked back up to The Bar Rufino and the key was eventually located. Small Albergue with about 10 beds, hot shower, good toilet and small kitchen.
No fixed charge – Donitivo

The Albergue in Huesca: Day 7 & 8 – Huesca

by into-thin-air

The taxi duly picked us up and took us back to Pueyo de Fananas, and we walked the 18k back to Huesca sharing one lightly packed rucksack, we arrived back, had lunch an telephoned the Hospitalario who came and let us back into the Albergue .

Highly recommended accommodation for Perigrino’s in Huesca.
Cost –A Very Reasonable 7 Euro per person

Huesca being a city there are several options for accommodation in all price ranges

The Closed Albergue in Pueyo de Fananas: Day 7, Should have been Pueyo de Fananas

by into-thin-air

On arrival at Pueyo de Fananas we found the listed Albergue was closed for renovation, we had already walked 28k in temperatures around 43 degrees and it was after 6 pm, as it was still 18k to Huesca, the chap who runs the bar in the social club (Where you would normally get the key to the Albergue) kindly offered to phone us a taxi to take us to Huesca. He also told us it was the Fiesta in Huesca and therefore finding accommodation could be problematic and advised us to try the Albergue there. The taxi duly arrived and took us to the Albergue and waited while we telephoned the Hospitalario who told us that there were beds and he would come and book us in. He was a really nice man, he booked us in and opened up a side dormitory for us, The Albergue in Huesca was only opened in 2010 and is very well fitted out, excellent kitchen, hot showers and toilets, the Hospitalario also give us some good up to date information on available accommodation for the rest of the route and even drew us maps to show us the route back into Huesca (We had arranged the taxi to pick us up and 08.00 the next morning and take us back to Pueyo de Fananas so we didn’t miss walking a part of the route) and another showing us the way forwards to Bolea. He also advised us to eat at a Perigrino friendly bar that offered a plateau de Perigrino and even took us there so to be sure that we would find it. His final act of kindness was to allow us to spend a second night at the Albergue and even let us leave part of our kit there during the next day to save us carrying it.

The Albergue in Berbegal: Day 6 - Berbegal

by into-thin-air

We Chose to stay in the Albergue in Berbegal; this is located in The Casa Rural on Calle Jaime Callen 13. To get the key you go to the Bar Merioiano opposite the church, when we did this the landlady and her daughter showed us down to the Albergue. 14 bunk-beds listed, the dormitory we used had 8. Good Hot shower and clean toilet but the kitchen was locked – No fixed price but we left a 10 Euro donitivo at the Merioiano when we paid our bill. We ate at our evening meal at The bar Merioiano which is very Perigrino friendly, when we asked what time the Comeda opened; they just said come and eat when you are ready. No menu, but substantial and tasty Plateau Combinado’s at a very reasonable price

(There is also Perigrino accommodation listed in Pertusa, 12 ½ k further along the Camino from Berbegal, Contact the Ayuntamiento, Tel, 974 301468)

Tip Photo
Hostal Venecia: Day 5 -Monzon

by into-thin-air

We chose Hostal Venecia (Near railway station) on Cale Cervantes 3. Nice en-suite air conditioned room for 38 Euro. Bar has attached Comeda which opens in the evenings at 21.00 and serves and excellent 4 course evening meal for 9 ½ Euro

(There were 2 other Pensions / Hostals near the railway station, one listed, Pension La Palacio (Listed as cheap) and one not listed + The more expensive Hotel Vianetto)

(There is also accommodation listed in the guidebook at Selgua, 7 ½ k further on along the route from Monzon, Hostal EL Portal, we walked past this place and it looked nice with a shady garden (Cale Romero 2) + the chap who runs the Bar in the social club told us that he also provided accommodation for Perigrino’s for 10 Euro each)

Tip Photo
Casa Rural: Day 4 - Tamarite de Litera

by into-thin-air

We eventually chose Casa Rural, 11, Paseo Del Hortaz (Above supermarket) right in the centre of town and not listed in the guidebook. Nice room with shared bathroom for 30 Euro, great views over old town, although on main street, still quiet, run by father or manager of the more upmarket (and more expensive) Hostal casa Galindo, so a better choice for the average Perigrino.

There is also Perigrino accommodation listed in the guidebook in the students residence, contact the Ayuntamiento to check availability – Tel 974 420075 or 974 420366

Tip Photo
Hostal Florida: Day 3 – Alfarras.

by into-thin-air

Our chosen accommodation in Alfarras was Hostal Florida, This is the only accommodation listed and we didn’t see anywhere else. Located in the centre of the town on Avenue Catalunya 25, a good sized, clean and comfortable room was 30 Euro, outside bathroom but clean with plenty of hot water. The Hostal Florida is above a busy bar, but the bar also has a Comeda that serves a great menu at 11 Euro.
(There is also a pension listed in the guidebook at Algerri which is 7 ½ k before Alfarras)
