Good access point
"Location and getting there."
Jaca is well to the north of Aragon and an excellent centre for some fine Pyrennean destinations.
I went there by bus from Canfranc on the French frontier and then went to Hecho and Anso for three nights and back again by the early morning bus to go on by another bus to Sabiñanigo where the minibus to Torla starts.
"Road and rail"
Jaca is on the line from Zaragoza through Huesca to Canfranc. From here there is a bus run by the SNCF through wonderful scenery to Oleron-Ste Marie in France. Jaca is also connected with Canfranc by local bus.
The railway line from Huesca to Canfranc is very scenic and there are about three trains a day in each direction. This provides an alternative route to Sabiñanigo though it is not conveniently timed from Jaca for the 1100ish bus toTorla.[http://www.ordesa.net/como-llegar/index.htm will give details for getting to the Ordesa National Park.] From Sabañanigo there is also access to a lovely area north of Biescas -so they tell me! {If anyone knows of public transport into this area, Please tell me!]
"In Jaca"
Jaca seems to be used most as an access to other places around it but it is an easy place to spend a bit of time and would make an excellent centre with a car for a few days. The cathedral and the Diocesan Museum conected with it are very interesting and there is a huge citadel not far from the bus station. For anyone who likes a slightly more lively place to stay this would be spot on though it suited me better to stay at the little places around. {see my entries for Anso, Hecho and Torla if interested.}
