Good Hostal in Burgos
by into-thin-air about Hostal Victoria
Despite this Hostal having a poor report in some of the Guidebooks we found it to be a nice place to stay !! Simple rooms at reasonable prices, well placed for the city centre and right on the Camino, Handy for restaurants and bars for evening meals we couldn't fault the place !!
Great Hostal in Puebla de Sanabria
by bijo69 about Hostal Carlos V
The best place I've stayed in Spain so far!
Large, clean rooms with wooden furniture and a big bathroom attached. The staff was super friendly.
There's a restaurant with excellent food inside the hostal aswell. Even got a coffee there although the place wasn't open yet.

Hostal Rif in Algeciras will always be special. Not the greatest pensione in the world, maybe. But they woke up and gave us a bed at 2am after our ferry back from Morocco was delayed.

Great Location and nice atmosphere
by LimorSchwartz about Hostal Rey Heredia
If you are someone that normally stays at hostels, well in Spain it is much tougher to find a hostel. There are some, but if you are two people, the price can be similar if you end up staying at a hostal.
I stayed with a friend at this hostal and we were presently surprised. Like most places in Cordoba, they have a very homey patio and the rooms were with a small balcony.
A double room (2 beds) with no bathroom (but a sink), the cost was 24 Euros. The place was clean and near the Mezquita and the restaurants.
Highly recommended!
Great Hostal in Granada
by worldtour4 about Hostal Venecia
Back in 2007, it is still the great place I wrote. By the way, they have dorms for 15 Euro a night (with tea)
Wake up in the morning and when the owners of the place know that you are up, they knock at your room door and serve you a real nice herbal tea on a little tray. Just so nice. The place is at Plaza Nueva. Just a short walk to most places in Granada.
It's a small Hostal on the 2nd floor, but really clean and rooms are 15€/28€ single/double. Serving that tea in the morning is unique. No other place I had that. Close to the Alhambra.
You easily meet other traveler.
Hostal with Lovely Courtyard in Cordoba
by naruto about Hostal Maestre
Hostel Maestre is a nice place to stay in Cordoba. It has a lovely courtyard with pretty mosaics and lotsa floral/fauna, which can be seen from most of the rooms on the ground floor. The rooms are nice, basic but comfortable, with ensuite bathrooms.
The sights are within walking distance, eg The Mezkita, the gardens of Alcazar, the old Jewish Quarter, etc.
Price is also reasonable as well. About 2500 pesetas back in 1999, about 15 Euros per person (part of a double) without breakfast.]
Now prices may be slightly higher, so should call and check.
Do note that the Maestre company runs also a Hotel and Apartments in Cordoba. The hotel and hostal are on the same street. -Funky interiors with a pretty courtyard
-Comfortable rooms for a very reasonable price
-Near the main sights
Just like your own home
by LimorSchwartz about Hostal Cisneros
The hostal is ok.
Very clean and what is nice, is that it´s also walkign distance to the main attractions.
If you want a place, where you can come and go, and don´t need to interact with the staff or owner, this is the place.
The place gets locked, but you have a key for each door.
We were there only one night, however I never saw the owner.
It´s like having your own apartment, in a way Has a self controlled heater/AC. A remote control.
We stayed in the matrimonial bed with bathroom.
That costed us 42 Euros.
It had a TV, Small fridge and armoire.

No idea, but you should say at last where they are! Both are not so unusual names, at least in Catalonia.

oops- I did forget to mention where Hostal Campi and Hostal Avinyo are- both are in Barcelona.
I realize The Ramblas area is touristy. I
'm not usually one to seek out tourist areas- but I've never visited Spain so I am curious about the Ramblas area. Can anyone share other sections of Bcn I could stay in w/entertainment and art in the area?
Hostal or Hostel

Hello, is there anyone that can tel me the differance between a Hostal or a Hostel? And maybe also in the prices between them.
exuse me for my bad Ingles write

Re: Hostal or Hostel

A hostel is a youth hostel, catering to backpackers and youth groups. A hostal is a small hotel, usually family-owned. The quality tends to be higher in an %hostal%, but the prices can be higher as well.
Hope that helps!

From what I've seen the word hostel and hostal mean the same thing. Many web sites in Spanish for lodging in translate hostel as hostal. If you do a search for youth hostals you will also find many options in Enlgish and Spanish. Similarly, if you search for just "hostels" you will find many listings in Spain with names like Hostal Goya. Is this just a translation and thus the same thing? Anyone know for sure?
Re: Re: Hostal or Hostel
by betis1
To clarify, the listings you get aren't always for backpackers or a small family run hotel. You get a mix of results when searching under either term "hostel" or "hostal".
