Free guided tours around Zaragoza

by MacedonianUK

I will be visiting Zaragoza from 6 to 9 November. & I am looking for guided tour around town. I read somewhere that Zaragoza has volunteering society similar to the one In New York, where native history enthusiast will show you around, but it has to be booked well in advance.
I have been looking for this info on the web, but seems I have been looking in the wrong place as I can not find what I am looking for.
The guided tour I found on offer is 3 hrs and it's cost €115. which I think is bit steep.
Anyone knows such website and where to start looking??
Many thanks.

Hi Valentina.
I did a quick search too, I have never heard of the free guided tour. What I found seems to be the same you found. 115 euros per person, only for groups.

Those tours are organized by the city, so probably there won´t be cheaper ones...

Said that. I don´t really consider necesary it...you may loose some interesting explanation, that is true, but you can go freely, and probably get all the info you need from the internet before you arrive, or at your hotel desk. I have had a friend from the states for three days at home, and we have visited several monuments. I am ashamed to say that not many info is displayed for non spanish speaking people.

In my opinion: Basílica of El Pilar, La Seo, and La Lonja(the three of them in the same huge square) ara a "must".
Then the Alfajería palace and the Museum of the city(with its part dedicated to Goya) can be done another day...and all those places can be visited with no guide at all. They have brochures at the entrance in most of them.

Maybe someother vter, will find a company that may help you. Good luck.

I suggest you try the couchsurfing forums. I'll ask on there for you but I can't guarantee I'll remember to come back and post an answer! (My memory's not so great).

According to the Saragossa tourism site (http://www.zaragoza.es/ciudad/turismo/en/visitas/visitaryan.htm), there are walking tours every Saturday afternoon in different languages for only € 5,- per person (plus entrance ticket to the cathedral) - free for senior citizens, children and unemployed. They need to be booked at least one day in advance, and their route is showed in their website. (it does not include the Aljaferia Palace).

The panoramic tour you have found is meant for groups and costs € 110,- plus admission tickets per group, not per person.

They also offer what they call "walks through history" focusing on the Roman legacy, the Mudejar heritage, etc., "walks in the nature", "walks with theater". They all cost € 5,- per person, but they are only available in Spanish.

I would take the walking tour if I happened to be in the city on a Saturday, and, as the above-poster mentioned, would visit the rest of the mudejar churches, the museums, and the Aljaferia Palace on my own.

Enjoy Saragossa.

I am arriving Saturday the 6th at 20.45 and leaving Zaragoza on the 9th (Tuesday) 22.40. the walking tour on Sat. will be perfect, but no can do.. ***sight***
This is Ryanair cheap deal for €5 one way... So I thought why not.
I will ask on Couch-surfing forum, as I am member, thanks for that...
It seems that I have to do with self guide..
At least there are plenty VT tip pages, to print and enjoy..
Many thanks to all.

Travel Tips for Zaragoza

The Column - Pilar

by Kuznetsov_Sergey

Maiden Maria Pilar is considered the patroness of Spain. There is a legend, that on January, 2nd 40 Maiden Maria appeared before Apostle Iakov when he stayed for a night at a place where Zaragosa is situated now. The maiden was standing on a marble column (in Spanish "pilar"). When the vision disappeared, the column nevertheless remained. Soon it became a place of worship of the first Spanish Christians. They built a small chapel around of the column. A church was built in the VIII-th century. The main relic of the basils - the marble column. It can be seen in Capilla Santa in the east part of the basils. The column is crowned with magnificently dressed statue of Maiden Pilar. Priests change its precious clothes every day.
