Hotel Posada del Valle

A perfect inn

Rural inns are very popular in Asturias, and they are fairly plentiful. We stayed at Hotel Posada del Valle, which is 1.5 km west of Arriondas. The exact name of the town is Collia, if you consider 5 houses and a closed church to be a town. (You won't find Collia on any map.)

This inn was perfect, perfect, perfect! It's located in the middle of a real farm, and the inn owners, Nigel and Joan, are the farmers, chefs, bartenders, activity coordinators, hosts, etc. I don't know how they do it all. But they are very successful at what they do and they are such pleasant hosts.

Unique Quality: The setting is beautiful and quiet, the rooms are extremely comfortable. The food is absolutely fabulous - both breakfasts and dinners. With dinners that fantastic, there is really no reason to go anywhere else. This is highly unusual for Spain - every night there was a vegetarian option - that made big points with me. The food for the meat eaters was exceptional, too.

This inn stresses energy conservation, use of locally produced organic foods, use of renewal resources. The cost of our stay was very reasonable. This is one of those perfect finds. We will definitely return someday.
