5 star hotel

The most famous hotel in Asturias is located in the heart of Oviedo. The core of the building, which was a hospital, was built in the 1700's, I believe it was then converted into a municipal building and then finally into a hotel in the 1970's. The hotel was recently renovated in 1998 and has been declared a national monument. I wish I could see it now because I was always facinated by it when I walked by. The place is replete with court yards and palm trees (even though it snows here!)

The top hotel in Asturias is...

by DanielF

The top hotel in Asturias is hotel de la Reconquista in Oviedo. It is placed in the shopping area of the city, near Calle Uría and San Francisco Park. The building is a historical hospital with a beautiful carved fasade and its saloons and rooms are elegantly decorated.

If you prefer to stay in the nature, you should know that Asturias was one of the pioneer regions in rural and ecological tourism in Spain. The network of rural houses providing accomodation is very large and they are all good and cheap. The best of them are grouped in a club called 'Casonas asturianas' or something like that. They are located in old big houses or palaces made by the people that became rich after emigrating to Latin America. I've stayed in several of them and they were all cozy and beautiful: Taramundi, Figueras, Llanes and Lastres (see picture).

OVIEDO VIEWS

The Pre-Romanesque art of Asturias is unique in the world. It is a style that originated in the ancient Christian court of the high-medieval period (8th –9th centuries). Forced to the north by the Moorish invasion, the Christian noblemen retreated to the mountains of Asturias where they launched the counter-attack known as La Reconquista ("The Reconquest"). The monuments, art, and architecture of Oviedo and the Kingdom of Asturias have been declared World Heritage sites by the World Heritage Committee to ensure their preservation for future generations.

"Hotel de la Reconquista"

This hotel, Built around a courtyard, incorporating a sculptured stone facade and other 18th century features.
The Hotel de la Reconquista, built on the traces of an original XVIII century building (the ancient hospital and Poorhouse of the Principality of Asturias, which has been given the status of Monument of Nacional Interest), is located in the commercial and residental heart of Oviedo.

This is the place where the Asturias Principe stay when he goes to Oviedo. The real family stay there.
