Reasonable hotel in Amsterdam?

hi, can anyone recommend a reasonably priced hotel that is modern and in a good location for a long weekend break in Amsterdam i hear Dam sq is a good area?Any advice would be great thanks!

"Reasonably priced" central Amsterdam hotels tend to be on the small side and can be a bit hit and miss regarding quality and service standards.

Of the various hotels I've stayed in I'd reccommmend the Amstel Botel (which is a floating hotel on the other side of the river at the back of Centraal station) and the Golden Tulip (just off the busy Liedesplein area). Both are good value and central. www.goldentulip.com and www.amstelbotel.nl

We stayed at the NH City Centre 2 years ago for abt 100Euros/night. I loved the location....very close to the centre and walkable distance to Dam Square, Anne Frank House and Central Station (or a short tram ride - 3 stops)etc. The room was tiny but we didn't complain coz we were out most of the time.Here's the site http://www.nh-hotels.com/nh/en/hotels/the-netherlands/amsterdam/nh-city-centre-amsterdam.html

Athens or Prague or Barcelona?

I am 60+ solo traveller, active, interested in leisure travel,art, architecture, music, walks, eating, drinking and merry go round the european cities with good amount of night life.I have 10 days of travel budget to stay in 3* hotels starting the first week of June.I can only travel to one of the cities only. Which city do you recommend, and why?

prague: cost

all three are full of history. all three have great architecture, all three have interesting cuisine and a good variety of places to eat and drink.

10 days is more than you need in any of those places. From prague you can travel cheaply. spend a day each in cesky Crumlov, bratislava, vienna (dont stay overnight there) and maybe warsaw and krakow.

of course you could travel from either of the others, but the budgetttiung will be more difficult.

Go for the city that speaks to you. Do research, compare and get the feeling. Good luck and happy trails.

I found accommodation in Prague extremely expensive already some years ago and cannot imagine it has got any cheaper. An option would be to stay on a boat hotel (Botel) on the river. The city itself is breathtakingly beautiful. Cost in restaurants etc. is cheaper than in Barcelona...

Barcelona's nightlife is very outdoorsy, and everything very compact, easy to reach. I love the easy feeling of it. And the architecture is sensational, especially with all those Gaudí buildings and Parque Guell.

Athens... the oldest history, great food, friendly people...

An extremely difficult decision... Can't help you LOL

Ok; I hated Athens. Barcelona and Prague are both very beautiful. Perhaps Prague is cheaper about food and drinks than Barcelona.

You could see some pages about those cities here on VT and then decide your holiday destination.

if you can find an appartment in prague it can be MUCH cheaper than hotels. same with Krakow, and they wont insist o you having a whole week.
