More about Lagotel
lazy days at Lagotel
have just returned from the most chilled out holiday we've ever had. My husband has always refused "package holidays" but is now fully converted.
arrived 4.30 in morning and we're booked in and in our rooms within 5 minutes.
food excellent choice although could nave been warmer.
Disappointed that no juice/ hot drinks or water included with evening meal.
Excellent family hotel. we were a party of 4 who booked a 2-5 family room plus a single and were concerned from brochure as stated inferior room for single- she ended up in a double bed with a single sofa bed. If we had known that beds 4/5 were in a separate room with sliding door would have only booked 1 room. downside of family room is as stated overlook lake at front of hotel and got no sunshine on large balcony.
You definately need to stock up on mosquito repellant as eaten alive.
all pools absolutely freezing, although once in the water and you're numb from the neck down, you don't feel the cold!
not sure would go last week of season again as many attractions/ restaurants/ shops in resort are shut- and in some cases shutting around you while you eat.
Some guests were inconsiderate allowing their children to run riot while they were enjoying themselves in the bar.
free laundry room available, although timing difficulties as book for an hour and you run into the next persons drying time.
Hotel was spotless, staff had patience of saints. staff worked like trojans, you saw the same staff at breakfast as late at night in bar. They were always couteous and had a smile. Some of the waiters even danced with the kids as they delivered drinks orders.
Entertainment some nights was so bad it was cringeworthy. Due to multiple pillars in bar, you couldn't see stage from most seats anyway.
some reviews have slated cost of snack bar etc in hotel, we found it very comparable to others outside hotel and used facility lots. even bar was reasonable.
On site supermarket was reasonable and did not find it too expensive, albeit a little understocked. It was cheapest for washing powder and some beer.
Swan Pub was good for good old fashioned family fun in evening with snail racing, kids doing go fetch (some parents end up half naked!), quizzes etc.
Could not fault the kids clubs and was impressed with how they kept kids quiet. the timing of some of these caused us to be more tied to the hotel as had to sign our 11 year old in and out each time, although just found us more time to partake of the bar staff hospitality.
Would not recommend paying Rep prices for excursions, identical are available down on main road for at least 1/3rd of price.
Bus ride from traffic lights is 1 euro each into alcudia and runs every 15 minutes.
would thoroughly recommend this hotel to families although there were some disgruntled guests without kids who had been allocated on arrival and didn't feel was right for them.
Half Term well spent at The Lagotel
We have just returned from a very good week at The Lagotel booked through Eclipse/First Choice.
The flight to Palma was very satisfactory, with a good in flight meal and plenty of leg room on the Air Europe flight. On arrival our luggage was rapidly off the plane and ready for collection. We had hired a car from the airport so we made our own way to the Hotel. On arrival at 10.00pm we were greeted by the friendly receptionist, who offered us a prepared cold buffet which we had not been expecting. Our family room was much better than we had thought it would be. We fully expected to be sharing one room with our two children, but they had their own room off the main. The main room was very spacious with lounge area/tv. The balcony was a good size with a lovely view of the lake and plenty of sun in the morning. Our teenagers enjoyed the pools, and various sports available, also snooker and air hockey too. We made use of the courtesy bus to the lovely beach nearby.
We found the food very good on the whole, but it paid not to leave it too late to come down in the morning as they were very punctual with the clearing away at the end. In the evening again if you came in near the end of the sitting you were sometimes dissapointed that some of the special choices on the menu had been popular and had finished.
I was disappointed not to have found paella on the menu one of the nights.
Our only criticism was with the entertainment at night.
The bar lounge made viewing the entertainment very difficult due to the location of all the pillars, although I appreciate structurally necessary. You had to get in the lounge very early to get a decent table. The mini disco was good for families with young children, and the bingo was very popular most nights with good money prizes, sadly not coming our way. The main entertainment acts were not particularly good some of the nights, odd choices and very far from having a spanish theme. We would really have liked to have enjoyed some spanish dancers performing one night and perhaps a local group playing some of the evenings. Ideally it would have been nice if there had been another lounge to escape to offering something different or somewhere to have a quiet drink.
All in all though, a very good value for money hotel, very good family rooms, hardworking dining staff providing good food with very good facilities around the hotel grounds to enjoy. We loved Majorca, very pretty island and we may return to this hotel in the future.
Clean, reasonable but not very friendly
We just returned from a lovely holiday at Lagotel Club. Lovely pools, clean rooms, nice food. However, we would not venture there again.
Most of the staff and reps had faces like a wet weekend in Bognor! Entertainment team were like a bunch of school kids trying to organise a school disco and the views left alot to be desired.
We enjoyed the professional shows but the team of KIDS who organise the entertainment came across a stuck up, clickey (cant spell it) and unfriendly. We have two children age 3 and 5 and they enjoyed themselves but found the two weeks very monotenous. The kids disco is the same every night and there is no variety. Old fashioned outdated entertainment.
Kids club staff received great reports from most people but I was unimpressed to be honest. My kids spend all year in nursery and school and it is their holiday too. My daughter settles easily and mixes well but she found the kids club boring and the staff miserable. There was nothing that set this glorified creche apart from what they can get at home exept it was not as friendly as where they go all year!
Over all we had a nice holiday but would not return to Lagotel. It is about 15 mins walk to the beach but there is a shuttlebus which runs regularly. Drinks and sports activities are expensive and you have to pay a high price to have a kettle or safe in your room which I think is a cheek after paying all that money to go there. I do not object to paying a deposit but we paid 31 euros for a safe for 2 weeks and only got out 5 euros deposit back. The rooms are not secure enough not to have a safe so beware.
I was also disappointed to find that even to use the table tennis we had to pay not only a deposit but a fee.
Though the rooms were comfortable with air conditioning and they were clean, our view was partly of a lake and partly of scatterings of buildings and waste land. Lagotel is in the middle of nowhere which means it is quiet but views are uninspiring.
As I said we had a nice break there but miserable staff make for small tips! Happy holidays x
Superb hotel But....
We visited the Lagotel in june 2005. The hotel is extremely nice and deserves it 3/4 star rating. It is set approx 1000m away from Alcudia centre which suited me fine as it was very quiet from midnight until morning - ideal for families. We stayed half board and the food was absolutely superb, the best Ive had abroad - 10/10. I would have given it a 5/5 except for the following incident that I did not report.
My room was 'illegally entered' and 500 euros were stolen. It was strange there was no evidence of a forced entry, but what is even stranger, is that a member of the hotel reception staff also worked at the bank where I drew the euros from..............
However, if you are careful it is hard to critisize this hotel, and but for the above I would have gone back many times.
We have just returned from our 1st stay at Lagotel. Big and friendly hotel (apart from some bar staff) and very clean. Meals are your typical buffet style and have a carvey of meat every night, Fantastic for my children of 1 and 3!! Rooms are a good size and cleaned every day. All pools are good but you need to be early for a sunbed! Beach is about a 15 min walk but the hotel do have a bus but you cant take inflatables which is a shame when you have kids who all have boats. Jelly fish in the sea so BEWARE.
Only down point was the mosquitos at night - take with you lots of mossie repellant and some mossie candles to put on your table at night around the stage.
We will be returning as this is a fantastic family Hotel.
Butlins in the sun!
Our family has just returned from a self catering week's holiday at lagotel and boy were we glad to get home. Firstly, neither a kettle or a microwave (or hairdryer) was available in the apartment .I'm not sure about obtaining a microwave but the kettle had to be rented at €11 per week. Are they so valuable they couldn't supply one? Secondly, we were allocated a sixth floor apartment which resulted in some vertigo. We also have three young children so we couldn't allow them anywhere near the balconies. The apartment was directly over the entertainment area so no-one could get to sleep before midnight at the earliest! Coupled with this, the early birds were queuing for the pools before 9am at the main pool inorder to get a sunbed. Talk about exhausting. The piece de resistance though was the captivating view of the incinerator which belched smoke (or something) everyday with an accompanying noxious odour. Funny how this didn't appear in the holiday brochure. We went to the hotel restaurant one evening to see what it was like. Whilst there was plenty of food, it felt like eating in a large cafeteria. As it was buffet style, there were people piling food upon plates like there was no tomorrow! also, too far from Alcudia.
I recently return from my first holiday for 7 years from Lagotel with my 2 children aged 6 and 4.
My first impression were pretty good, as the reception area was very clean and presentable, but on arrival there was lack of hospitality from the receptionist.
The room was very clean, although decor is very old fashioned, and despite first impressions were quite good, after the first night we realised that our room was directly above the stage and the entertainment did not finish till 12.00 - 12.30 at night, and when you have 2 young children who are very tired it it is not a good thing! depsite requesting 3 times to be moved, nothing was done, and they didnt really care.
Entertainment was vey repetitive, and lack of imagination, the highlight of the evening was Bingo, and that was tedious but you put up with it for the chance of winning some dosh which you need because the prices in the supermarket are a rip off, because you are further from Alcudia town prices are double and they take advantage of this.
Also watch you change because the taxi drivers and shop keepers have a habit of short changing you.
Pool area was very good as you had 5 pools to choose from.
Saltwater pools were much better as it was not as crowded and very family friendly.
Restaurant was very large but also very busy, food was of large selection, but to be honest most things were deep fried and consisted of either chips, chicken, pork and more pork and more pork, They put pork in everything!
Must say though the desserts were very good.
Staff were ignorant, rude and very bad service to the point where they would laugh at you!
Oh and last but not least take plenty of Mosquito repellant because you are ner a lake and yes they go for you like anything, not only do you walk around with the nice spanish tan you also walk around with about 10 bites which swell up like balloons.
Would not go back to the hotel, but would visit Alcudia again, but more central.
best holiday ever!!!
this holiday was the best one i have been to yet! i am a 15 year old girl and i went with my friend, we never saw her parants exept for when we were in our apartment. dinner was great, all you can eat yay! breakfast was good but the eggs looked over cooked and about 2 days old sometimes. so if any parants want to go on holiday and almost forget about your kids then go here, they will meet loads of friends and so will you. the facilities are great too, you have a washing machine and a tumble dryer so if you do happen to get thrown in the pool (like i did quite often fully clothed)there is a free washroom. i would definatly recomend this hotel and am coming back this time in two years.
The Best Yet
Great food, Great Location, Most staff are very friendly apart from one or two misery guts, good entertainment, 6 Swimming pools yes 6, Tenis courts, theres a Launderette which is free,
See you next May 2007
2nd year as good as the 1st
We have just returned from our second year and can honestly say we were not disappointed. This hotel deserves a 3/4 star rating with great staff (apart from a couple of grumpy waiters) especially Fabien and Jim who go that extra mile for guests. Having read reviews with people complaining about noise from the power station we were a little concerned at being on this end of the hotel this year. We can honestly say that even with the balcony doors open at night all we could hear was a gentle hum that did not bother us at all. We would highly recommend this fantastic family hotel which has five swimming pools, tennis, crazy golf, daytime activities for all the family and fantastic evening entertainment. We will definately be returing in the future.
