Small mountain de Sant Martí
Puig de Sant Martí is the small mountain west of the Garden Lago Resort (or south-west of Alcúdia town). It has two peaks (260m and 242m) from which there are some wonderful views: one is a panorama of most of Alcúdia district, the town, the port, the mountains; and also the two bays, those of Alcúdia and Pollença and a large part of the mountains of Majorca. On top of the most southern peak there is an extensive view of the Majorcan plain and the Albufera. We started this walking tour from our resort walking westwards along the Lake Menor shore. Seven minutes later we reach the Belle Vue resort. After you pass the resort, the street becomes a dusty roads. Turn right on the first road (it is in surprisingly good condition). Carry straight on along the road for 5 minutes until you come to the Sant Martí cave. The fence encircles area around the cave; the wicket was padlocked during our visit. Across the road from the cave there are the Roman ruins scattered across the area and covered with bushes (fortunately, no fence here). The mountain is above you. From the ruins, continue to follow the road. Two minutes later we cross the Alcúdia-Palma road and follow the same path as before. This path is easy to recognize because it has a large pine wood to the right and valley to the left. This path gently climbs for 20 minutes, leaving the mountain on your right, until it reaches the turning that climbs to the top of the mountain (you will see the sign). The turning is on the right and to the left there is Poble Nou that gives its name to the path. This part of the excursion can only be done on foot. The ascent is short, in 20 minutes you reach the hill between the two peaks and 10 minutes is long enough to arrive at either of the two peaks. The path continues until the peak of the aerials. If you want to go to the other one, there is no path but access is not very difficult. Return down the same path you came up and in 20 minutes you are back at the crossroad. It takes another 45 minutes to get back to the resort.
