More about Don Jaime
Best holiday ever!
Brilliant service, food and resort. Only 200m to the beach. Lots of restaurants and clubs for the night. Swimming pool was nice and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were always kept clean. The maids did a wondeful job. I had a great time and can't wait to go back there again.
Me and my boyfriend (both 18) stayed here in July, and i must say for our first holiday away together it was fantastic. Rooms were very clean, hotel looks much more prettier than in the pictures on here! pool was lovely, and poolside played the Beatles! Nightly entertainment, which was ok, but we liked to venture out more.
Beach was so close, as was the glass bottom boat, all the shops etc.
Great places to go are Yates and Sport Bar:) Very friendly.
Food was ok, we survived 10 nights with it, so it must have been ok, we ate in one night and then ate out the next night which worked very well.
Overall, i would like to go back there again, it is missed very much!
Great little hotel
Stayed here with my husband and mother in law for a week at the beginning of the month. We had read the reviews before we went and were not overly sure what the hotel was going to be like. However, we were pleasantly suprised by what we found. We had asked for rooms close together and ended up with doors facing each other, which was great.
We had decided that if the food was not up to much we would just eat out, but I have to say that the food was fine. There was a good selection of both hot and cold choices both morning and evening and we didn't feel the need to eat anywhere else (apart from lunch). The rooms were cleaned daily and clean towels were provided when the old ones were left on the floor.
The chaps behind the bar were very nice and entertainment was laid on 4 out the 7 nights we were there. The pool was very clean and not that cold and the poolside area was clean and tidy with plenty of furniture for everyone. We went to the beach everyday because it is so lovely and the sea so clean, but my husband used the pool for a final swim everyday.
The beach and town are within throwing distance and are just far enough away to make the area relatively quiet, but a lovely walk in the evening after dinner.
Okay there are no views of the beach from the hotel, but that is not a requirement of ours for a hotel. We did have views of the mountains from our balcony and we were far anough from the pool end for it not to be too noisy when the evening entertainment was happening.
This trip was a late booking through a website and was very good value for money. We are even talking about going back to the same hotel next year.
The lift broke down once during our stay but was fixed within a couple of hours.
All in all we would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting an inexpensive, but perfectly adequate hotel for their holiday.
Would definitely go back!!!
Me and my boyfriend looked at some of the reviews and we were a little anxious what the Don Jaime would be like. I must say that it was a lot more than what we was expecting.
We found the food nice okay it is basic but by no means bad. The room we had was lovely we had clean towels everyday. The pool area was nice and the hotel was nice. For the money that we paid this hotel exceeded itself. I would definitely recommend this hotel and Calla Millor.
dont even bother
to start with, when i arrived at the resort they had no reservation for me, so i had to stay in a temporary room until they found permanent room. the room was ok, however the hotel itself could have done with a serious makeover. by the 4th day the water and electricity had been cut off for the 4th time leaving us unable to shower for the better part of a day.
the food in the restaurant was extremely dull and questionable at the best of times and the entire hotel itself had a musty come feacal smell which engulfed the reception area at all times.
all staff were extremely rude and seemed to understand every language under the sun apart from english.
take my advise do not stay here unless u plan on spending all of your time outsidside of the hotel grounds.
Fawlty Towers reborn!!!!
On arrival at this hotel there was no electricity so we walked into a dark reception only to be told by the receptionist that due to overbooking on self catering accomodation myself, my wife & teenage son would be accomodated in a 5th floor hotel room until such a self catering room became available, Oh & by the way the lift doesnt work so you will have to carry your bags up five flights of stairs, sorry!!!. We had booked an air conditioned one bedroomed apartment. 7 months prior.
Once in the room we discovered two single beds in an air conditioned room with another in what could only be described as a conservatory type area leading onto a balcony that was not air conditioned. Given a constant temperature of 30+ degrees prevailing throughout our stay this space was consistently overbearingly hot.
Within two hours of arriving the electricity returned however the water went off & remained so for 36 hours despite water being available in all surrounding properties. The staff at the hotel were totally nonchelant towards the whole situation repeatedly stating it was not their problem & that everyone should stay calm despite an ever increasing health risk developing. A request for alternative facilities to be arranged for guests to shower & fulfill hygiene requirements nearby was met with total ignorance by staff who could offer no solution. As result every guest was forced to go without toilet or washing facilities for 36 hours.
On days two & three I reminded reception staff of their promise to move us to a room as per our booking however we were told all rooms were preallocated & therefore unavailable for us now for the duration of our stay. A reminder that I booked my room 7 months prior was totally ignored by all concerned.A compromise of the provision of a kettle and/or a fridge remained too demanding for hotel staff throughout our stay despite repeated requests.
On day four I reported unhygienic deposits floating in the swimming pool only to be told the pump was broken & therefore the pool would not be cleaned until another pump was available. As result another guest cleaned the pool trhemselves using a net that was obviously to difficult for hotel maintenance staff to use.
On day six I was approached at the poolside by a waiter who wanted to create a scene by shouting & seeking to confiscate a bottle of water I was drinking because I hadnt bought it at the poolside bar. This caused extreme embarrassment to my wife who subsequently reported events to the only helpful receptionist at the hotel. The young lady confronted the waiter only to become the subject of a confontation bordering on violence in front of guests. At least it took the heat off myself & my family!!
On day seven we gladly checked out of what was a clean basic hotel with no visible management or customer service accumen that developed a nickname of Fawlty Towers amongst guests over the duration of our stay.
I would strongly advise anyone to avoid this hotel at all costs in the same way as I will from this day forward!!!
Fawlty Towers revisited!!
Staying at this hotel was a nightmare from the minute we arrived. On arrival my husband, myself and teenage son were told sorry we have over booked on self catering apartments so we will have to put you into a normal hotel bedroom until one becomes available, which is on the 5th floor, and sorry the lift does not work due to the hotel not having any electric!! On our second day there the hotel did not have any water due to a burst pipe outside, this continued for a further 36 hours, so we were unable to wash or use the toilet. The staff were most unhelpful and really not interested in any of the issues which had arisen.. The hotel reception had a very bad smell the only way to describe it would be a sewer smell. We mentioned to the staff about the floating debris in the pool only to be told it was not their problem, so a guest took it upon herself to get a net and clean it. We continually asked when we were going to be moved to a self catering apartment only to be told that we were not as there were none available. So we had no choice but to eat and drink our own food by the pool, when a waiter approached my husband shouting at him that he was not allowed to to do that, we both felt totally humilated and went and reported this incidence to the only helpful member of staff the receptionist, who sorted out the situation.
Anyone thinking of staying at this hotel, my advise would be think very carefully before booking.
Comfortable and satisfying
A very friendly and clean hotel. Classes itself as a 3 star but not sure if that would be a UK rating.
Excellent, excellent location. 2 minute walk to the beach and either turn right and visit shops after shops, restaurants after restaurants and bars after bars along the stretch of Cala Millor or turn left and visit just as many shops, restaurants and bars along the stretch of Cala Bona. The two resorts literally join each other. If you walk to the furthest point of Cala Millor along the sea front and take the 15 minute walk, visit the Castle, have a cold beer and carry on walking for another 25/30 minutes along to Sa Coma the next resort along - alternatively, there is a shuttle bus running along the resorts every 30 minutes.
The hotel room was clean and maid service was provided every day of our 2-week stay. Nice pool area. The hotel didn't seem too busy and it was peak holiday season. Some nights there is entertainment but we used to walk along to the Lavante Hotel which is a Thompson Gold hotel and saw some first class shows - something different every night.
Restaurant - didn't like the idea of being allocated a table. The table was set for 4 but our allocated dining partners never materialised. It's silly to allocate tables especially as only half of the other tables were occupied.
Breakfast - plentiful. Dinner - There was ample but not a massive selection of choice. One night we had fish. I could obviously see it was fish but I wanted to know what type of fish it was. The chef was standing behind the servery and I asked 'What is this?'. His reply - "Fish!". Another time, I asked what a particular dish was and he just shrugged his shoulders! He spoke very little English but the food tasted OK. There was usually 4 choices of main course together with accompanying vegetables, salad, chips and always a pasta dish.
Maids, receptionists, bar staff - all very, very helpful and friendly.
Don Jaime Apartments need a lift
We stayed 7 nights in the seperate apartment block which is across the road from the main hotel building.
Our one bedroom apartment was on the third floor to the side of block overlooking a residential street..
The main hotel building hasa pool, bar, dining room but we did not use any of these but they appeared to be fine.
The was a small supermarket about 50 metres away and a selection of restaurants close by (one next door). Our favourite ones were at the harbour in Cala Bono.
The apartment had a large living/kitchen/dining/ second bedroom with TV as well as the twin bedroom and a seperate bathroom.
Both main rooms had seperated balconies and free air conditioning.
The kitchen facilities were the usual i.e. fridge, sink, double ring with a good supply of china, glasses, cutlery, pots, etc..
The apartment was not in the first flush of youth but with sound furniture, clean linen and regular towel change it was up to an acceptable standard to us. Maid service was 5-6 times a week.
The real major drawback for the apartment block was that the lift did not work during our stay.
We cannot say how long this has been the case but the delivery docket for parts form the supplies that lies in the lobby date from 2006.
Carrying suitcases up three floors in the early hours of the morning is not the best introduction, Luckily we are healthy enough but it could be a major problem for some if they had to negotiate stairs 2 or3 times a day.
The lift is the one reason we would not return or recommend these apartments. This is a pity as for an investment in repair (or even replacement) of the lift would make this a reasonable 3 star accommodation in an very nice quiet location in easy reach of the beach, Cala Bono and downtown Cala Millor.
I agree, the Don Jaime does need a lift!
I totally agree with the review before - in fact we were staying on the 3rd floor too so I can understand exactly. The weird thing was that we arrived at 3am in the morning and collected our keys from the main building, we were directed over the road to the apartment block but the receptionist never mentioned the fact that we would have to get our suitcase up 3 floors.
But it was very good value for money and it was clean, spacious and had air con etc. It is also in a really good location. The pool area was nice and the hotel bar prices were reasonable.
As I said it is a budget holiday destination so if you are expecting a 4 star you will be sadly disappointed, I would say that it is a two star. Not sure how much the reviewers who had the electricity problems paid but there were guests in the hotel who were really unhappy but that had paid much much more than us and if I had paid £1,500 for 2 weeks I would have the hump too.
Go online and get the cheapest price possible would be my advice then you won't feel cheated.
