Just returned from our stay at the Cala Vinas Hotel. I had read reviews on Trip Advisor prior to booking and had seen the hotel 2 years previously when we had stayed at the Barcelo over the cove. The complaints from the holiday makers at the time where about the food being sub standard but the hotel itself being very nice. So; as we were going self catering I was not unduly worried.
The hotel was obviously once a really posh place, all the corridors are carpeted which cuts down the noise and the general decor very nice. We did not find the hotel staff particularly helpful or interested in its customers and had to try and attract the attention of the reception staff. There was no information around reception alerting us to any offers etc.
We had an apartment under the piano bar and suffered a lot of noise, mainly from the dragging of chairs and tables from 8 o'clock until 12 o'clock at night and from 8 o'clock in the morning when the maids returned them to to their rightful place. On a couple of nights we had the Flamenco dancers executing their steps overhead as the stormy weather had driven the entertainment inside.
We frequented a couple of the bars outside of the hotel for meals etc and found them to be very good. One was typically Spanish and one typically English so every one was catered for.
The downside was the day of our departure. We asked for a courtesy room to get changed in. The hotel didn't take bookings for this room so you just had to turn up and wait in the queue. The reception staff were ending their shift so wanted to escape quickly and we kept having to remind the new staff that we were waiting. Eventually we got a key to room 422. We couldn't find room 422 as the numbers on the wall stated the rooms ended at number 421. A friendly maid showed us to room 422 which was just a shower room with a toilet and no towels and it was filthy.
We wont be returning to this hotel in the future but would definately stay at the Barcelo over the cove as Cala Vinas is a beautiful location just far away enough from Magaluf if you don't want the nightlife. The walk into Magaluf takes about 25 mins and costs about 5 euros by taxi.
Hotel From Hell

We have just returned from the Cala Vinas Hotel after a week long stay here from Tuesday 19th September to Tuesday 26th September. We arrived at the hotel and from first impressions of the outside of the hotel and reception we thought Wow!! this hotel looks lovely. We checked in pretty quick and ventured upto our room on 12th floor. Upon entering the room, the very strong smell of urine and damp was very overpowering although the room appeared to be fairly clean. The view from our room was the best part of our holiday here as the view of the ocean and bay was breathtaking. The food was very poor apart from a couple of the meats that were available in the evening such as the pork and chicken they were vey nice but the rest of the food was dried out, tasteless and to be quite honest I wouldnt feed it to my dog. Drinks at the poolbar were watered down, not just a little but they tasted weaker than the weakest of squash. The waiters were the most ignorant arrogant people I have ever came accross in my life, slamming drinks down on the bar, being very rude and everything was just too much trouble for them. We were all inclusive and it seemed as though we got treated like animals because of this. I noticed people who were not all inclusive got treated with a lot more respect than those who were. Tip jars were pushed towards you at the bar. On relaxing around the pool enjoying the lovely sunshine and surroundings all of a sudden RAW sewage started pumping out of the drain around the pool. The stench was unbearable. We moved away from this awful eruption as the raw sewage was tricking down and underneath peoples sunbeds as they were lying there and decided to go and get a drink from the poolbar which was flooded ankle deep with raw sewage so we gave the drinks a miss. It was decided that the pool bar was to be shut approximately 10 mins after the flood. The toilets downstairs were also flooded inches deep with this awful sewage. It was advertised that the indoor pool and the gym were open but when we tried to use these facilities we were told that the indoor pool is only open for 4 weeks of the year. The gymnasium was shut due to the lack of use from guests?????? IMaybe if it would have been available a lot more people including my husband and I would have used it. The entertainment was a farce. Bingo at 9pm for about 10 minutes and then a disco which was just a tape being played from a man behind a curtain. The stage for the entertainment at the poolside was being dismantled when we arrived so no entertainment by the pool. No activities during the day either. Overall this 4star hotel should be downgraded to a 2 star as I have stayed in better run B& Bs in Blackpool. I dont think that there was a single person who did not have a complaint about this hotel upon speaking to numerous people at the hotel. This hotel was highly recommended to us by a family member who stayed here 7 years ago as they praised the hotel for the excellent hospitality and facilities available and the location of this Hotel. The only thing we could not fault was the location as it was beautiful. We found ourselves paying approx 4 Euros everyday which is approx £3 in a taxi into Magaluf to get away from this Horrid place. My husband and I have stayed in many hotels and are not the sort of people to complain but We can honestly say this was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in anywhere. One good thing that came out of staying at this Hotel from Hell was the lovely people we met who were also staying here. So one last word of advice if you want to be treated like animals, eat horrible food, have your drinks watered down, make your own entetainment , watch raw sewage erupting in front of your eyes and be in a room that stinks of urine and damp then this is the place for you.

Booked this hotel 2 days before we went as the weather was so bad here. Unfortunately we could only stay for five days!!! We could not fault this hotel at all. Food was very good, accommodation superior. (we were placed in the apartments when we arrived at the side of the hotel with a pull out bed ,but when we complained we were moved straight away to the main hotel). Staff were friendly and very helpful. Entertainment good. Guests were all ages and a mixture of nationalities. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday this is for you. Magaluf is a 20 minute walk away if you want some lively evenings. We highly recomend this hotel and will definitely be returning.
