We came back from the Sol Tordos on the 3rd July after spending a week there, and yes there are two small lifts, but as we were on the 2nd floor and able, (I saw one person struggle to fit a wheelchair in, AND stand beside it) we didnt bother using them. The pool small for the amount of people staying at both hotels. The food was lovely and well presented, but felt some things was not kept hot enough.
The staff at reception were very helpful. Bar staff a bit miserable, they run out of plastic pint glasses in the week, and only had half pint ones avaliable which didnt please a lot of people, because you had to keep going back to the long queue at the bar.
The entertainment was average, mainly aimed at the little ones, no good for adults...

Going back next year

by A TripAdvisor Member

We have just returned from the Sol Tordos hotel (31.08.04) and are already thinking of booking for next year. We went with a large group of people aged from 5-44. We are 18 and even though the hotel is aimed at children, we had the best holiday we have ever been on. The hotel was very clean and the maids were polite and friendly and worked around our sleeping habbits! Although the food in the hotel was routine there was still a good variety to choose from. The recieptionists were very considerate and helped us sort out a few problems. The pool was quite small for the amount of people in the hotel, but as you can use the pool at the Mirlos it never seemed too busy. Entertainment was not as good as expected but you still had a good time, and the younger children seemed to enjoy it. The bar staff kept you entertained all evening and made up for nights when the entertainmant was not up to standards. Although some of the female bar staff were quite rude, and pretty miserable. We would recomend the hotel for families and young people and will hopefully be returning next year.

Book somewhere else!

Have just spent two weeks at the Sol Tordos, which can only be described as the hotel from hell. We booked through Travel City Direct and paid over £1800.00 all inclusive (2 adults & 1 child) for the worst holiday I have ever been on. As soon as we booked into the hotel and saw the 2 security guards at reception I knew we had come to the wrong place, the noise was dreadful with kids running around shouting and screaming at the tops of their voices. The 'restaurant' - I use the term loosely, was no more than a glorified canteen and the food, the same morning, noon and night. Ques for food and drink were so long and slow, we finally had to eat out and buy our drinks to avoid our stress levels rising. There is no room around the pool for the numbers of people staying there and you need to have your towel on a sunbed before 8am. The pool is so small it's like the Ganges when all the kids are in it. Rooms are very small, we were on the second floor which was fortunate because the lifts are tiny and don't work all the time, so used the stairs, kids play in them and press all the buttons. We had a nice view of the bins from our balcony, so could'nt sit out there because the smell was terrible. The canteen has a really silly rule that men can't enter while wearing anything sleveless, however, woman can go in wearing nothing but a bikini top. Canteen staff and room maids were all ok, but the bar staff are really rude, they kept shaking a tin for tips, I could have given them a few on how to be polite! The hotel/travel company seem to have some sort of problem in who to market the place to. I stupidly assumed that as it's a Flinstones themed hotel that it would be marketed to families with children, but be aware that they also welcome large groups of young people on holiday with their mates, who will run up and down the corridors screaming and shouting at 6am in the morning when they have come in from clubbing at Magaluf. On a more positive note, the entertainment was ok, but the good stuff did'nt start until 10pm and you needed to get a table before 8pm or you had very little chance of getting anywhere to sit.

Brill Time

I am 14 and have just returned from the Sol Mirlos 07/08/04 and had one of the best holidays ever!

As we entered the hotel we saw it was spotlessley clean and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was small and had a camp bed put down for me but it was just as good as my parents beds even better. The room was hot but had a celing fan which cooled us down brilliant. The cleaners did an excellant job. We were on the second floor and had a good view of were all the day activites took place which included volleyball, archery, shooting and water polo which my mam wishes she now joined in because of all the fun and laughter that took place. The activitys for childeren were brilliant too and the kids were happy all the time, never a dull moment. The meals were superb with something for everyone at a 4* standed. The pools were very small for the number of guests but ours was the best and we could always find room to sunbathe unlike the Sol Tordos where you could never get a sunbed. The games in our bar were brill with free playsations, pool, pinball (my dad got the grand champion score 79 million whilst there) internet and a crane machine where you win teddies, which was more difficult to lose on and people won nearly everytime. They even held a cinema club where you could watch films as the hotel had 3 tv rooms. The location was excellant only a few seconds walk to the beach and a few minutes walk to Plama Nova and Magaluf making our hotel very central. All the staff were friendly and when i was sick with sunstroke in the public toilets the cleaner cleaned it up straight away and even helped me. While our hotel was totally spotless the only problem i found was the Tordos's pool where the entertainment took place (which was not so good for adults but brill for young kids) was left in a terrible mess at the end of each night off the all inculsive guests which left tons of plastic cups littering the pool side but cleaners had it cleaned by morning.

I would recomend this hotel to anyone of any age and hope i will be able to return in the future.

awseome!!!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Wow!!! Just got back from the most awesome holiday ever!!! Better than USA!

Where to start...well i went to Palma Nova with my friend, mum and dad. We were all unsure about what to expect from the mixed reviews.

The flight was fine, one or two mix ups at the airport - but nothing that couln't be sorted!

Arrived at the hotel - Sol Mirlos - the flinstones theme is great!!! Lots of photo opportunities!! The two hotels are very big, and you an use them both. There air con in the hotel reception is just the biggest relief ever after you have been out in the heat. The lifts are quite small, but we didn't use them that much. We were on the sixth floor too!! We had a sea room view, and my mum and dad had one out the back - our room was slightly bigger (only the bathroom), and our room seeemed to be a bit cooler. They were very, very clean despite what some say on here and they were big enough for two of us. The air conditioning is just a ceiling fan, but if you take a card like a credit card shape and leave it in whilst you are out it makes the room much cooler.

We preferred to spend our time arund the tordos pool as there are loads more activities there!!You have to be out before 9 though to get sunbeds. Make sure you take part in all of the activities, they are great fun!! We did rifle & pistol shooting, archery, water polo, water basket, water volley, volleyball, french boules, aerobics, aqua gym...the lot!! Even Miss Bikini! We got lots of certificates too on the night!

The entertainment team were fantastic, and it was probably them who made my holiday so much fun!!! The night time entertainment was good as well.
Make sure you stay by the pool and join in with the special day on thursday - i'm not sure whether this was a one off because there was a tv crew there, but there are lots of teams competing in all the events!!
Make sure you get to know the staff, they are so much fun!!

The food was very nice aswell!!! Its just a help yourself buffet! Wide variety of choice for both tea and breakfast. There are PS2's, computers, pool tables, pin ball machines, tv's (we watched some of the olympics)

Some things that we did during the day were:
Golf Fantasia: was ok (but only do 18 holes though) 52 is too many
Aqualand: we went here rather than western water park, (but you hear lots of different things about which is better. It cost about 16 euros, but it was great fun - especially the boomerang.
Palma: we went shopping here for half a day, was great especially all of the shops near el cortes ingles. Lots of busses running from just outside the hotel.
Palma Nova Beach: it is very very nice, but i am much more of a pool girl - i made sure i was back at the hotel for the water activities!

We went out almost everynight, make sure you stay at the hotel for the transvestitie night though!!! and the acrobats. We went into magaluf most nights, it is only a short walk along the beach. Make sure you go to the 5 clubs for 10 euros (babas, carwash, boomerang, tokio joes. An almost certain thing that you have to do is boomerang on a saturday night!!!! - Pat Sharp baby! BCM is wicked aswell. 20 euros, all inclusive bar (thats in first floor, bcm, and millenium). And you get free stuff - we got a tshirt, body board, hula necklace and vanity mirror!
Bars which are a must are Chaplins, Revolution, Mulligans (where you can see the 2 in 1 toilet), Juniors, Coyote Ugly bar, (dont go to stop near boomerand - not very nice). There arent really any clubs in Palma Nova - just a karaoke bar.

A night out at the Pirates is a must aswell, shop around for tickets because the prices vary a lot. Despite what some say they arent totally sold out. We went to the wednesday night adult show - freestyle night. So there was a lot of banter - wicked though! Try to get there for just after 10ish because there are massive queues.

I think that is about all i can say!!! I hope it has helped alot!!

I could not fault this holiday whatsoever, and despite what you say at the beginning of the holiday about people reserving sunbeds, you will be doing it by the 3rd day!!

All I have left to say is that next year i am definately going back and staying in the same place.

*Please do me a big favour though, and if you go make sure you say hi to Carles the entertainer from laura the mosquito girl, and please say hi to Dean the entertainer from the Redcar girls!

Bye x x

Not Sol standard

by A TripAdvisor Member

We spent a week at the Mirlos 6th July 2004. I have been to other Sol Hotels and this was far below standards in their other hotels. The pool was a joke!. We took our 5 year old grand-daughter this year so spent a lot of time round the very very small pool area. The sunbeds were so close to the edge of the pool I considered it to be a hazard. I can see a young child easily falling into the pool. Tordos guests unable to get space at their pool were hogging the sunbeds, at 1 o'clock a mass exodus back to their hotel to get lunch leaving towels still on sunbeds returning 2-3 hours later. Entertainment was foul! None at Mirlos and Tordos was rubbish if you could get a seat you would only be bored to death. Bam Bam Club was fine if you were staying at the Tordos but forget it if you are at the Mirlos. Food was not to standard I have come to expect. Lifts a joke expect at least a 5 minute wait breakfast and dinner times thats up or down! Rooms were very small and basic fine for two people but any more forget it. Finally hope you like cockroaches had one in our room and they were regular visitors in the bar.

we loved every minute

by A TripAdvisor Member

we have just returned back from a two week holiday 12/7/2004 to 26/7/2004 there were 8 of us in total and we spent 2 weeks in the mirlos hotel we had a fabulous time, our children who were 6 and 2 absoulutely loved it the kids entertainment is great and the adults entertainment that starts at 10pm is also very good , there is plenty of activities to do in the day for example pistol shooting (in which i won a certificate had to get that in ) archery, water volleyball, volleyball, bowls, my 6 year old cried as she didnt want to go home, the flintstones theme is brilliant deano and barney are in the kids club and u can have your pictures taken with them, the staff are all so friendly the ages for all of were 67,58,34,32,30,24,6,2 so it wasnt that we were youngsters because we all wasnt ,,even the older folk of us all had a great time, the only down fall to this hotel is that it has no airconditioning and the second week of our holiday was very hot so it can be a bit hard to get to sleep at night (the kids didnt have a problem thou) they have got ceiling fans which do help a lot, the rooms are not very big but hey you only sleep and get changed in them, there was also another nine of my family that stayed in a hotel called santa lucia just over the road from us,came at the same time and paid a lot more than we did for only 11 days not 14 and even though there hotel was situated right on the beach and had got fancy carpets down , they said the food was terrible ours was fantastic there reception staff were misserable, ours were really friendly ,there hotel did not cater for children at all ours was brill (so sometimes it doesnt pay you to have fancy carpets its the fun that counts) and we was literally only a 5 minutes walk to the beach which were great...... there is only one last thing i am going to say these hotels the mirlos and tordos hotels are not for families without children if you are after a child free hotel then go to the santa lucia..... and i have read the recent feed backs on this hotel and i am very shocked to see some of the comments because there is nothing wrong with the food(my husband would of been the first to moan if there was) the hotel is lovely there is lots to do in the day what more can you ask for, so the only thing i can say is you dont know what a good time is if you didnt like this place..... we are all going back again next year and yes even in the same hotel even though it has no airconditioning.... well done mirlos keep up the good work......

Brilliant Holiday

by TripAdvisor Member HolidayGangCardiff

Having booked this holiday for 16 people and on reading some of the reviews before we went i didn`t know what to expect.
But having just returned we can say we`ve just had the best holiday ever.
Firstly the rooms yes a bit small for a family of four however we only slept and showered in them, however they were always kept spotless by the friendly maids with clean towels daily.
The food was great with such a choice that should suit everyone(and always fresh).
The pool area was a bit small for the amount of guests and if you didn`t get a sunbed by 9.30am you can forget it,however the daytime activities schedule made up for this with a great range for both adults and children.
The evening entertainment was also good with different types of shows which both adults and children could join in with(I joined in a few myself).
The whole entertainment staff were brilliant especially Maria who seemed to run the whole show.
All attractions were very close ie.Marineland(A must just to see the seal/dolphin show) and Aqualand which was a waterpark with lots of rides and this was the best day of our holiday.
Can i just say if you`ve got children i don`t think you will find a better place to take them if they like joining in and doing something every minute of the day.
This was a brilliant hotel and i would recommend it to anybody booked with Travelcity direct.

CATTLE MARKET!!!!!!!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

If you like hussle and bussle this is the place, entertainment for the kids is great, food is a bit to much the same every day. There is one pool shared by TWO Hotels, so if you want to make the most of your all inclusive package get up at 6 to put your towel down like a German! THERE WERE 2000 PEOPLE TRYING TO FIT ROUND A POOL 10 X 20 MTS also this was the same at night when you wanted to watch the entertainment. This hotel wears you down in the end, but MOST IMPORTANTLY IT WAS FULL OF SCUM BAGS ON A CHEAP HOLS LETTING THERE KIDS RUN RIOT ALL DAY/NIGHT TILL ALL HOURS!!!! DONT GO HERE!!!!
