More about Hotel Son Baulo
Son Baulo May 2007
The hotel was very good, the staff were very helpfull. We did find the pool a bit on the cold side. The food was very good, you could allways find something for everyone. The the drinks in the hotel were about double what you would pay at the bars just down the road ! The best bar around the area was Scandal's just down the road from the hotel, fab prices & you must try the happy hour from 7 pm - 12 pm 2 for 1. We will be going back again soon.
A third visit to our favourite place!!
This was our third visit in the past three years to Hotel Son Baulo and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it. The staff are always the most friendly and entertaining we have met in many a holiday - Antonio Jesus is a 'star man'. The food and restaurant staff are of the highest order, they can't be praised enough. I have read reviews that stated the 'perfect chill' - it's that and whatever else you wish to make it. Lying on the beach or pool side, to a cool beer on the terrace. PERFECTO!! ( If you want a sea view, be warned, you now have to ask Thomsons when booking. Nothing to do with Son Baulo staff. New this year.) We will be back!
My family and I have just returned from a two week break from the Hotel Son Baulo. We found the hotel clean and the majority of the staff friendly. We were Half Board and there was always something we could eat in the hotel restaurant. My oldest daughter who is 3 enjoyed the small swimming pool and the play area. However my younger daughter (11months) was confined to her pram for the majority of the holiday as the pool area was quite slippy when wet.
Though the hotel was busy there were always plenty of loungers (shame some families still felt the need to reserve loungers!!) and at night time it was quiet so the children were able to sleep.
The hotel entertainment is pretty dire! We walked to C'an Picafort each night (20min walk - be warned!) just to get away from it! But if you are into Bingo then it may be right down your street!
We enjoyed our stay but would not visit this hotel again simply due to it's location. It's too far away from C'an Picafort and C'an Picafort itself is really quiet. If you are looking for a quiet family holiday and are happy to stay in the hotel most nights then this place would suit you. If you don't like kids then don't go as the hotel is full of them!
Overall hotel good, food good, entertainment not so good.
Best holiday ever!!
We stayed at Hotel Son Baulo for 11 nights from May 15th to 26th and had the most wonderful holiday!
The hotel is very clean and well maintained, with our rooms being cleaned everyday to a high standard.
We booked a double room with a sea view, and we actually ended up with a double bed (well, two pushed together) and an additional single bed in the room, so it was larger than we were expecting. The bathroom was also a good size, with a lovely powerful shower, bath, sink and toilet, and there were fresh, clean towels left every day.
On arrival we decided to pay to have a fridge in our room (3 euros per night), it was delivered to our room in minutes and a very good investment in my opinion as it meant we could keep bottles of water (and wine!) cold in our room.
The food was very good, with a good selection of chicken, pork and/or beef, fish and vegetarian options every night, plenty of salad, fruit and desserts too. Breakfast was equally as good with cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurt, pasteries, and of course, every 'full English' ingredient you can think of!
We chose to eat elsewhere on a couple of nights (just for a change of scenery, not because there was anything wrong with the food at the hotel) and found a very nice little place a short walk down the promanade - can't remember what it was called, but it has an open wood burning fire inside, so you cant miss it - highly recommended!
The entertainment at the hotel was okay, although they could do with a few more live shows, relying on bingo and a quiz for 4 nights out of 11, we felt was a little weak, but the waiters and bar tenders were for efficient and friendly so we didnt mind too much. If you get a chance to see the comedien (Arnold Gutbucket?!) make sure you do because he was very very funny!!!
Jill and Tracey, the two women who run the entertainment cannot be faulted for their efforts, lovely ladies who always had a smile for us!
The drinks were fairly well priced, with a G&T or V&T costing about 3 euros, house beer only 2 euros and house wine just 1.70euros, they also offer premium brands i.e. bottle of strongbow etc, but these were a little more expensive, as you would expect.
The pool area was very nice, with loads of sunloungers and the choice of 2 terraces, either around the pool or around the hotel bar area, that looks onto the beach.
We spent most days around the pool, as there is a pool bar that sells drinks and snacks (approx 3 euros for a baguette or burger etc). **Top Tip!! If you decide to sit around the pool, on the side of the pool that is next to the nature reserve it gets quite windy!!** Some days the wind was wonderful for cooling us down in the sun (although you don't realise when you're burning!!), but other days it was so strong that reading a newspaper was a bit of a challenge! The wind is not as strong on the other side of the pool (the side next to the hotel) or on the other terrace that looks over the beach.
The pool itself isn't huge, but certainly big enough, and actually the main pool is pretty deep. There is a childrens section, but I would be cautious of small children in the big pool, as most of it is at least 1.5 metres deep (2.25 metres at the deepest part).
The beach is very clean and lovely white sand and the sea water beautifully clear and quite shallow, gently shelving.
Outside of the hotel there is a few 'Spar' style shops that sell basic food, drink, English newspapers and beachy type things, all within 1 minute walk from the hotel. (No papers on a Sunday close by though!)
It is a pleasent, albeit fairly long stroll to the main part of the town, about 25 - 35 minutes at wandering pace, following the path next to the coast line, just keep heading for the bright lights!
We onky went down that far for a couple of nights, but there is the usual selction of bars and a couple of duty free shops there if you fancy a change of scenery from the hotel.
All in all, it was a perfect holiday... I have always said that I would never go back to the same place twice, as there is so much of the world to see... but the Hotel Son Baulo has changed my mind... we're booking to go back next year without doubt!!!!
Fantastic, hotel, location and Sangria
Just back from a fantastic holiday at the Son Baulo, the Thomson superfamily hotel excelled, in accommodation and food. You can upgrade for around £20 for a sea view room or a 4 poster bed. We were 2 couples but there was enough going on for everyone. The local bus is cheap and just outside the hotel with plenty of do it yourself trips to the Drack caves and Porto Pollensa, both excellent days out. There are no lager louts or touts, no pushy sales assistants either; its all good with a great beach just outside the hotel. Entertainment at Stuchies accross the road with their special sangria and entertainment, with a game of binga at half time aint bad at all.
Me My Best Friend And My Grandparents spent 2 amazing weeks at son baulo this year our first in july and our second in october, both times the hotel was clean great food and great views from the hotel room.
Also The Waitors Noel, Manuel, Gabriel, Martin, Ivan, Yony, Jony, Pedro, Javi, Paco, Nicholas, Antonio Jesus, Bernat, and Annie from Bar Puput the bar across the road owned by the hotel. They were amazing they could provide the hotels entertainment hands down, wouldnt be the same without them they were very helpful and friendly which also topped off the holiday.
The Pool and Pool Bar was also great lots of sunloungers all around to lay down and relax in the sunshine.
The Hotel provided great entertainment for young kids and outside of the hotel bars clubs etc entertained me and my friend a short 20 minute walk and we were in the busy town of c'an picafort it was great!!
Also the Beach and Nature Reserve was beautiful, stepping off the terrace of the Hotel You Step straight onto the beach and beside you is the Nature Reserve.
I Recommend this hotel to people and families as all ages it is an amazing place to take a summer holiday.
great hotel just as described
We booked this hotel through Thomsons after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor, we were not dissapointed. Absolutely great holiday, nice clean hotel in fact the cleanest we have ever stayed in the Med, fantastic food plenty of choice especially the desserts, and happy friendly SMILING staff. Hotel is right on the beach a great location and great for the kids.
best holiday we,ve had
we stayed here for 2 weeks at the end of the season and could not fault it . The room we had was lovely over looking the sea the food was superb and the staff very helpful and friendly. We are gong back in the summer of 08.the beach is ok the pool is good and its a nice stroll to the town along the prom. All in all great value for money would highly recomend
We stayed at this hotel 28 may 2007 for 1 week and just returned yesterday. Lovely location on the beach. Hotel is so clean, maids in rooms every day, always clean throughout hotel public areas too. Food is brilliant. Meals all buffet and also a seperate childrens evening buffet table(nuggets, bolognese etc) Breakfast:- cereals, fruits, cold meats, rolls, toast, cooked breakfasts etc.
Dinner:- Normally 2 choice of soups, salads, at least 3 choices for main course(ie chicken, paella, fish, pizza, pork chops) veg and at least 3 desserts plus ice creams, fresh fruits.
We had booked a family room which was interconnecting through the balcony. We had room 115 & 117 which just had the most fantastic balcony( chairs and even 2 sunloungers)and had view over the sea.The entertainment was varied and most nights started at 8pm for mini disco then 9 bingo and 10 for main act. which could be comedian, parrot show, magicians etc. This usuall finished about 11.15-11.30, but we were on first floor and didnt hear any noise form bar areas as mostly families here. There are a few shopsaround the hotel but caan picafort itself would be about 30-40 min walk, but there are plenty of local buses. The pool area was good and we could still get a sunbed even at 10am.The pool and terrace snack bars are also good value and a good choice for lunch snacks. There are also 2 internet computers in the bar area, a tv room, pool tables& library. I would definately stay here again!!
Lovely Hotel, lovely location, fantastic!
Arrived here for 11 nights on the 5th June. Was greeted by a very helpful and friendly lady at reception who checked us in very quickly. We upgraded our room direct with the hotel which cost 10 euros a night which gave us a really nice room with four poster bed, fridge, tv and upgraded furniture with a superb sea view. The hotel was spotless, no nasty bugs hiding under the bed! Rooms cleaned everyday and linen changed every 3 days! The selection of food for tea was fantastic. Every night had a large selection of main courses including one being cooked from fresh infront of you! All cold food was nice and chilled and all hot food was piping hot! Deserts were to die for! Breakfast was good but was the same everyday with cereals, fruit and hot buffet with full english brekkie! Tea was served buffet style too! The wine waiters were amazing! They served you at your table both in the restaurant and in the bar area! Very friendly and can all speak good english! Look out for Nacho, he was brilliant! Hotel right on the beach with soft sand! Pool not huge but big enough with loads of sun loungers and brollies all free of charge! The hotel is located at the far end of Ca'n Picafort so a nice 20 minute stroll got you to the centre of the town! But everything you could possibly need is all in the immediate area....bars, shops, supermarkets, even a kebab shop! It really is the best 3 star hotel i have ever stayed in and i shall definately be returning!
