More about Hi! Cala'n Bosch Hotel
Not the best
This hotel is certainly not the prettiest of hotels to look at. After booking this holiday I began reading reviews which expressed that the hotel was "dated" etc but a holiday is what you make it right?
We booked our holiday through First Choice and the bedroom photograph
they show on their website is very different to the bedroom we got! Our bedroom had 2 single beds pushed together to make a double. One of these felt wobbly to sit/lie on, and we also had bunk beds alongside us. The top bunk had 3 wooden slacks along the side to supposedly stop the sleeper falling out of the bed but this wobbled around all over the place, I'm glad I didn't have children with me and if I had I would not have allowed them to sleep in that bed. The bathroom door had no lock on it and ours would not completely close up. The hotel were having problems with the air conditioning and ours
did not really become cold until day 5 of 7. This didn't really bother me but many guests more affected by the heat were complaining about this. Positiviely the room was clean and the beds were made and towels changed daily.
The hotel entertainment is headed up by Ramesus who is fabulous. There is plenty to keep people occupied in the daytime. The evening entertainment wasn't to my taste but many enjoyed it and it caters for the younger holiday maker with a mini disco every night. It certainly has a bit of a "Butlins" element to it. The entertainment ends and the bar closes at midnight. We had a first floor room directly above the bar which was very noisy if we went to bed prior to the entertainment finishing. Another review mentions people having to "continue their socialising in the car park" once the bar closes but the marina is only a 2 minute walk away and hosts a range of bars and resturants so contiuining the evening if you so wish is not a problem.
The food was not great. Understandably they have to cater for every taste which must be very difficult but there wasn't a great deal of choice and despite only being there for a week it was very "samey." The "Childrens menu" was chips, chicken nuggets and burgers everyday but there was plenty of fresh salad etc to be eaten too. I think there is certainly room for improvement for the food. We arrived on June 4th for 7 days, for the majority of the week there was no problem at all getting a table whenever you wanted to eat but for the last couple of days there were always queues. I imagine in high season that the queues increase so you need some patience.
The pool area was clean and we had no problem at all finding sun loungers, tables, chairs, whatever we wanted really and we rarely went to the pool before 11am. There are umbrellas stuck into the ground around the pool so there was always shade available when it was wanted. The hotel is right next to the beach which is lovely and gets very busy very quickly. It is much harder to obtain a lounger and umbrella on the beach. The sea is clear but there are jellyfish so beware.
The hotel staff were nice, particularly the poolside bar staff. I found reception staff to be not particularly helpful especially on check in. We were told no info at all about the hotel apart from that the bar closes at midnight. I expected some basic information in the room but there was nothing.
Our First Choice rep was very helpful and friendly so that was a big plus :)
Bus stop right outside the hotel with a frequent bus to Citudella for only 1 Euro 65. Well worth the travel if you want to get out of cala n bosch for the day.
This is the worst hotel I have ever been to. The hotel is very dated and stinks of stale cigarette smoke. I thought I had gone back in time when I arrived! Meals fine if you like Pork as this was served every night and you had to search through plates to find a clean one. Lifts constantly broken. Staff very unhelpful and if you used the restuarant outwith the main meal times the staff made you feel as if you shouldn't be there. Entertainment a joke! I wouldn't go back to this hotel if they offered it free!
We stayed for one week with two young children and the facilities and entertainment were good. The hotel was clean but dated, towels were changed every day and the beds made up. There was a good variety of food to choose from each mealtime although by the end of the week you are wanting to eat something different as the menu doesn't change greatly. Also if you didn't get to the restaurant as soon as it opened for each mealtime the queues to get in could be quite long. There was a variety of evening entertainment including kids disco, bingo and caberet. However for young children the entainment was quite late often not finishing until 11.30 pm. This meant the hotel was very noisy of an evening if the children needed to go to bed earlier due to their action packed day in the pool, kids club etc. The hotel is located a few steps from the beach so you have the best of both worlds - two hotel pools or beach. The nearby marina has a nice feel about it with no larger louts or groups of rowdy tourists. Overall we had a lovely holiday but would not have wanted to stay longer at this particular hotel.
We were a bit concerned about staying at this hotel after having ready some of the reviews on the internet but our concerns were unfounded. Yes, the hotel needs a facelift but our room was cleaned every day, with fresh towels and bedding. The food was excellent, with clean, hot plates and cutlery etc. The pool was a bit crowded but, as I prefer the sea anyway, the very short walk down to the beach was nothing. The bar staff seemed a bit miserable when we first arrived but, as our holiday progressed and we got to know them, they were great and very accommodating. The evening entertainment was good - as our children are older, we would have dinner, go for a walk around the marina then go back to the hotel for the 10.00pm shows - the room can get crowded but we always got seats, even though there were seven of us. The in-house entertainment team are fantastic - Hugo is mad and a very good entertainer, singing, dancing - an all-rounder. The work very hard from 10.00 in the morning until 12.00 at night sometimes - once they get you involved in the games and sports you are hooked - we all wanted to win to get a certificate on stage!! All in all, a very relaxing, happy holiday - I would go to this hotel again.
Be warned! Little or no shade outside!
From the outside the Cala'n Bosch hotel is quite impressive but inside the bedrooms are very very dated and in dire need of total refurbishment...especially the bathrooms! Having said that, the rooms were cleaned everyday and fresh towels provided daily. The staff all over the hotel were very hard working and generally pleasant. A word of warning..we were told that the rooms on row B or floor B (not sure which) have a rather unpleasant odour so when you check in try to avoid being allocated those rooms.
The head waiter in the dining room kept his finger on the pulse and tables were cleared and changed efficiently and quickly......sometimes a little too quick. (If you need to get up from the table to collect a utensil or cup etc. tell your family to keep an eye on your meal or it will disappear!). There was a good range of food which was ok, adequate - not five star but then you're not paying five star prices. Generally even the pickiest of guests will find something to their liking.Free snacks are on offer all day in the dining room with free tubs of ice-cream in the fridges at the far end of the room.
Outside there are two pools. A smaller shallower pool for the little ones in a large grassed area and that leads down to the larger, deeper (feezing!) pool in a very large pleasant paved area. However this area is a day long sun trap and there is LITTLE OR NO SHADE! Be warned! Several people went to the shops to buy beach parasols as they are expensive to hire. Ohhh and what a smelly beach it is too! Visually it is stunning, but there is a strange sewage smell which is also evident in the sea and you try to not to think too hard about what you might be swimming in!!!
There is an Animation team which does quite a bit with the children in the day time and there is a different show every night till about 10.30-11 ish. Bars and lounges close and it's lights out at midnight so those who want to carry on socialising apparently had to do so quietly in the car park according to one disgruntled group of guests.
The hotel has 2 lifts and there are ramps for those with mobility problems. However families with very small children needing to use a double buggy, should ask for a ground floor room as the larger buggies won't fit in the lift.
The Cala'n Bosch hotel does its best to please guests and we had quite a pleasant holiday. It's definitely an ideal hotel for families with small children and we met several people who had made return visits. However, I don't think we would.
Not bad at all
Stayed at this hotel for the half term break and was expecting the worse.
Yes it is a bit "Hi de Hi" ish but we enjoyed it all the same. We thought our teenage daughter would hate it but she did'nt.
Rooms were cleaned every day, with fresh towels daily. Food was very good. There was something to cater for every taste and we have all put on at least half a stone!
Resort is very quiet but maybe because it was the last week of the season and a lot of the bars, shops etc had already closed down. We don't go for the busy resorts anyway so was ideal for us.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and would go back again.
ok - but not brilliant
Just got back from the above hotel so thought would add my penny worth!
The location of the hotel is great - right on the beach and 2 mins to the fantastic marina. Our room was o.k - bit small - we obviously needed a cot for our little lad but they also put in a single bed for no apparent reason..?! First night there put boy to bed and thought would sit on veranda but light didnt work, tried to call reception and although we had a 'phone we didn't have a 'phonepoint!! On my visit to reception they told me that none of the hotels veranda lights worked and never had! Air con was another thing that didn't work - very hot in room - we were told by our rep that the engineer was due to visit on the day we were leaving! Another tour company decided to hire fans for their guests - great customer service - our company didn't....
Food excellent - we did eat out a few times but the choice in the restaurant was very good and couldn't be faulted.
Staff seemed friendly enough - we were asked if we wanted to take part in an activity but were never pushed or harassed if we declined.
Entertainment was quite basic in the evening but the team tried as hard as they could.
Another niggle was the sun beds- yes obviously you had people reserving them from the early hours but there were a huge amount of beds that were broken.
I love the resort - we stayed up the road last year and will come back again. Don't think we will stay at this hotel again - just feels too tired - the management need to spend money in what really are basic areas but price was reasonable for the location and all inclusive basis.
Loved this hotel!
We stayed here last June and had an excellent time!!
The location is brilliant right on the beach and the views from our hotel were amazing! The weather was gorgeous and all we could have wanted for the money we spent!
The hotel is in a great location and is minutes walk away from the marina with lots and lots of bars and restaurants. We went during the world cup and vistied lots of bars! Our favourite bar was the Med bar run by an English guy who was really friendly!
We were all inclusive at the hotel and found all the meals to be excellent. The meals are on a buffet basis and breakfast included fresh fruit, cereals, toast, yoghurts and fried breakfast. Lunches and dinner had plenty of varity to suit everyones taste! They also have chefs their cooking fresh pasta, meats and fish which were lovely!
Our room had plenty of room and had a great balcony with stunning views! The room was clean and tidy and lived up to all we wanted.
Lots and lots of activities to do for children and adults and you didnt feel pressured at all to join in!
Bar by the pool had staff their all day and had any drinks you wanted!
Lots of Children entertainment in the evenings!!!
Only small complaint may have been the sun beds as lots were broken and people were out very early outting towel on etc so was quite hard to get them!
We went on a day trip to water park! do not go! not worth the money at all! One or two slides etc and just not worth it!
We did hire a car which was well worth the money. We hired it from Europcar and we are so glad we did this! (europcar is easily found by the marina) We spent the day visiting parts of the island including the church on the highest point of the island which had breathtaking views and well worth the visit!
Also visited various beaches along the coast - parking was always free so well worth just stoppong and getting out to have a look. The hotel also provided us with pack lunched which you can request from reception to take with you on day trips etc.
I would definitely reccomend this hotel!
Hotel ideal for families, food great with plenty of choice. The resort & marina very peaceful & clean & beautiful. My wife, son & I loved it & would go back there again .
All our family got food poisoning together with alot of other guests. I ended up in hospital with severe salmonella. I would be cautious if you are intending on staying at this hotel.
