More about Ola Club Maioris
Myself, my husband and my 2 children aged 7 and 4 have just returned from a fantastic week at the Ola Club Maioris in Majorca.
After reading all the reviews on this hotel I was a bit optimistic as to how it would be but I was pleasantly surprised.
We have never been on an all inclusive holiday before and we will definately be going again!!!! The hotel itself was clean and tidy, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was good but dinner got a bit boring by the end of the week!!!! I don't understand what people are moaning about we had a very cheap holiday and weren't expecting to be staying at the Ritz !!!!
The holiday was booked well in advance, through the services of an on-line travel company, Qwerty Travel. They proved reliable, although faced us with a slight shock two weeks prior to our departure date, stating that our original chosen hotel of Ola El Vistamar at Porto Colon was unavailable, due to an "administrative error". We were given the one option of "Ola Maioris", 100km to the east. The compensation was All Inclusive instead of Half Board and the free use of a hired car for four days, which was the best they were prepaired to compensate. We stayed for 7 nights as a party of three, one of whom was physically equiped to walk only short level distances. Early September with no children of school age around, the hotel appeared well subscribed with a wide age range of guests and a fairly equal range of other Europeans. The transfer to and from the hotel was well served by our pre-booked A2B transfers.com and took aprox. 15 mins each way. There can be a delay at reception desk with sometimes only one person available to deal with all reception matters, including the telephone. Once at the desk the Receptionists and all hotel staff, from management, to the Fun Team to the Room Cleaners were surprisingly very attentive and friendly. How the Bar Tenders remained calm and jovial under the relentless pressure of serving the constant flow of drinks will remain a mystery to me. The pools were vacuum cleaned overnight and proved a very pleasant form of cool light exercise. The early afternoons were given over to energetic and perhaps riotously noisy water polo, but to some this was entertaining to watch, as well as having the option of partaking. Sunbeds can be a contentious issue and this hotel is no exeption. If you wish to reserve your favourite sunbed for the day, then I advise you rise early before breakfast and drape your towel accordingly. Otherwise take pot-luck as we did and still enjoy the sun. I saw no-one standing waiting for a bed! The restaurant is naturally a very popular room in the hotel. A self-serving buffet, with a range of food to serve the majority of palates, can be a daunting spectacle, and there were complaints of blandness of the food and overcrowding within the dining area, which must be a problem for all popularly priced hotels. I personally considered the whole weeks dining experience to be moderately good, helped along by the free flowing red/white wine. There are two tennis courts, only one of which is useable. The tennis racquets are badly maintained, but at least freely available. The Gym Room is also badly in need of attention. The lift system to all floors are quick and very effective. The large TV is available for all those sporting fans and most sensibly situated in a seperate room, away from those with little interest in these matters.
The biggest drawback for our party was the seemingly isolated location of the hotel - hence All Inclusive. The hotel is said to be near the sea. Which is true. Access to the sea is not so easy. I would not advise a bucket and spade. It involves a 45 min walk down to a very rocky cove. If young and reasonably fit, it may be suitable, but overall the effort may not be worth it. I advise a car, but again it would advisable to take advise on your destination, because the roads around the hotel can seem long and empty.
There are some beautiful beaches but they are not obviously made known. Information books in the hotel are predominantly in German. We did find one travel brochure in English, but it involved the whole island and not specific to the area around Ola Maioris, which is not helpful if ony staying for one week. Would we be tempted to return? Probably not, but finding the ideal to suit one's pocket is not easy.
absolutely awful dont go!!!!
when we arrived the reception staff was unfriendly the only time i saw them smile was on the brochure!. some of the food was ok the little pots of ice cream were nice and the chips were ok. dont have the boiled eggs there dodgy i had one and the white was runny and the yolk was solid?? how did that happen? it wasnt just the one i tried three and they were all the same, have to queue half an hour at the toaster that turned out to be warm bread. the maid never cleaned my room once just threw my same week long bedding back on i even complained and still never got clean sheets or covers, the bar area was cramped couldnt get a seat once in a week! the free bus service was the only good thing so we could take off to arenal every day away from that hell hole. the noise was terrible aswel only single glazed windows so got all the noise from the bar area and all the noise from the landings, the animation team was ignorant and mimed all there shows and played bingo and read the numbers in about 10 different languages it dragged on forever. the sun loungers are all cramped up together no room at all either side was just like 1 long bed they were that close! wasps and flies everywhere round the pool as the cleaners were too lazy to clean up spillages, the room bathroom was cleanish, but the public ones around the hotel had a really nasty odour for the entire week. i wouldnt go back if it was free it was that bad trust me dont go! its supposed to be a 4* but more like 0* before going i read all the reviews on here and was really looking forward to it as more positives than negatives but i definately agree with all the negatives they are telling the truth it really is bad service, we arrived at 11pm and was really thirsty wanted a drink from the bar we had to pay because its only part of your all inclusive till 11pm. so went to reception and asked them for change and the guy was really arrogant and stroppy and said i havnt got any the tills closed thats it then he dissapeared into a back room giving us a dirty look and it really is in the middle of nowhere a few shops down the road we went 3 times and they were all closed apart from restaurants and the building site accross the road was pretty quiet but just a bit of an eye sore but should be finished soon. this is just my honest opinion of this hotel sorry if some people dont agree but this was my experience hope if you are visiting in the future you have a better time than i had
Excellent Hotel, Good Value For Money
To be perfectly honest I cannot see how people can complain about this hotel. Me and my family have just spent 10 days there and loved it. We all thought it was terrific value for money.
Rooms: We had a family room, which was large, modern, very clean. Bathroom all tiled, modern and also very clean.
Grounds: Very nice, crazy golf was a little tired and also the tennis courts. Swiming pool area was spottless cleaned every few days.
Hotel: 2 computers for internet which was really useful, TV rooms showing all Prem football which was on sky / setanta, games room for kids etc. Reception staff friendly and helpful.
All Inclusive: Meals in restaurant really good, maybe a little repetitive but I have yet to visit an all inclusive resort were meals are not duplicated during your stay. Drinks excellent great choice, branded softdrinks, some self service. Waiters brilliant will service any amount of drinks when they get to know you especially Lubo. Even had crisps / nuts / snacks by the bar which was all nice especially the salami. Staff in restaurant really good, clearing plates / tables all the time.
Entertainment: Also I have never visited an all inclusive were the evening entertainment has been brilliant, mostly the entertainment staff having a laugh, Karaoke, quiz etc. Staff really friendly, Max was the best out of them.
All in all a very good value for money hotel, nothing around it apart from a shopping centre about the size of an Asda at the top of the road and a shopping complex around the corner, various restaurants, chicken kababs really nice in Captain Cooks.
Take advantage of the free bus to Arenal and Palma you will need to but early the day before but beach resort is predominently German but we found it nice enough.
We only paid £380 for 2 adults and 1 child for the hotel for 10 nights, I think we had our moneys worth in the first 3 days.
Value for Money
Great hotel you get what you pay for, Remember this is 4 star spain not UK.
We did 2 weeks all inc via jet2 with a 7 year old and 3 year old. The food was great lots of fish, salad, and sweets. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful at all times, my 3 year old loved the kids disco. The hotel is out of the way, but if you do your research that shouldn't bother you. We made use of the free buses to Arenal and Palma, Arenal is a German resort but that wasn't a problem for us and they all speak english anyway!! The beach in Arenal is lovely.
The hotel room was big enough for us and cleaned every day with fresh towels.
This is a great quiet Clean hotel, its cheap to get a taxis from outside reception or even the local bus and there is a hand full of shops near by for your english papers. Cigs are sold in the hotel next door.
As a travel agent & mother of 2 i can tend to be a bit fussy when it comes to accommodation but i really loved this hotel , i have recommended it to lots of customers & friends and they have been delighted too. The beach is lovely & only 5 mins away in taxi.
we went all inclusive it was brilliant the kids could help themselves to drinks etc
1 staff very friendly & helpful
2 very very clean.
3 not in the centre of everything which i like having 2 children but easy access to town.
4 Pool area is very clean staff went round constantly to empty bins etc through out the day.
5 food fantastic i put about a stone on. loads to nibble on all day.
All in all one of the best relaxing holidays i have been on.
Great and relaxing
When from 28th sept to 5th oct 2008. Via internet booking with bookable, flight with easyjet. Taxi to hotel.
When i read the reviews they were quite a mixed bag. I did not know know what to expect. This was my first holiday abroad or in a hotel but not my partners. As i walked in to reception the staff were all friendly and helped us check in (it was about 9pm) and give us our wrist bands. It was to late for dinner so we went up to our room on the 3rd floor to dump our bags and to a stroll to the bar to check out the entertainment, area and snack bar. The bar does get crowded at night time (free drinks will do that - only till 11pm though) and the seating was often all taken if you dont get there early enough. When went to bed and decided to start the day fresh in the morning. The rooms are well kept and you have a television in the room if you wish to watch but in english you only have BBC World News, a few hazy german channels and some spainish channels. The bathroom is nice and fresh towels every day if you put out a sign to have your room done. There is a safe if you wish to rent one. You can order beach towels from reception if you wish and free bus services to Palma and El Arenal which we did once, we went to Palma aquarium. Brillant. The aquapark was closed though.
Breakfast was from 8am to 10am and there was a great choice The food was excellent. I am a vegetarian, my partner is not. At breakfast there was bacon, sausages, egg, beans, mushrooms, hash browns, salt cod things like croquets and then there was fresh melon and fruits, toast, omlette's, boiled eggs, cereal, croissants and other pastries etc and orange juice.
Lunch was 1pm to 3pm ish and they had salad, lots of fish, chips, pastas of all sorts, lot's of meat etc, there was so much variety. Dinner was around 4pm to 6pm there was again so much choice lots of fish, salad, different pastas, chips, lasagne, potatoes of differnt sorts, different meats veg, paella, etc etc. There was so much more than that aswell. During the day there where poolside snacks, offering croissants, bread rolls, baps along with ham, salami, cheese, olives, melon etc. There was also crisps (indecrible i wish i could buy them now), cookies and sweet things. All that with a self serve soft drink despensor you could refill you drink as often as you liked. I put on too much weight.
The day entertainment was very good with all sorts of activities for you to do like archery and the like but the night entertainment was not so brillant. There was a disco, bingo, quiz night karaoke etc Although for an entertainment team who had to do there shows in about 5 different languages it was quite funny at times, espically the hypnotist, but you did have to get a seat early.
The pool was lovely and clean, albeit cold, and you had to get a towel down for the best bits where the sun hit first but at the time we went in late sept and around 12-1pm onward ish i always found a sunlounger free.
There was a very small village/town square with a few shops just down the road from the hotel with a supermarket (eroski) which was normally open anytime with usual food and bits plus little sections for own country products from england germay and alike, about four resturants for lunch and evening. (Very nice). Most were closed often through. There was newspaper shop open early with many language papers and magazines from the sun and guardian to marie claire and the likes. A hardware shop that also had a few gifts and Souvenirs.
The were some tower crane out the front for the hotel across the way but luckly our hotel room faced the mountains but the cranes and works made no noise anyway.
All in all if you like a quiteish holiday in the middle of nowhere for peace and quite and pool side sun with great food you will be very happy. If you wish for night clubs and english bars its not recommented.
My husband and I have just arrived from spending 5 days at this hotel on an all inclusive basis. We booked last minute with Sunmaster Holidays and were after a nice relaxing break, and that was exactly what we got.
The rooms were clean and spacious, the food was varied, i'm a vegetarian but always found something to eat. They also laid out snacks at the bar during the day as well, so if you didn't fancy or missed breakfast lunch or dinner, you could grab a snack any time of day. The drinks available on all inclusive were also plentiful and varied, not to forget the generous measures.
The entertainment was great for whoever wanted to get involved, they did a great job with kids as well as adults.
There were 2 large pools and enough sun loungers available, having no need to wake up at the crack of dawn to lay out your towels.
The staff couldn't do enough for you and were always happy to help.
The hotel also provided free shuttle buses to L'Arenal. it was a 15minute ride and the beach there was superb, a thai message on the beach is a must!! for all u massage lovers. L'arenal also had an array of nice restaurants and gifts shops as well.
All in all we would recommend this hotel to anyone who isnt looking for an activity packed holiday. If you want somewhere to relax and soak up the sun, then this is a really nice destination.
Hope the review helps.
(From Birmingham - UK)
Just returned from 5 lovely days at the Ola Mairoris. The hotel was great, it was not too full so there was plenty of room at the side of the pool, in the dining area etc. It maybe a little different in high season ?? The hotel is in a lovely area, more residential than beach location, although the beach is only a free bus ride away. The high point was defintely the entertainment staff - in particulary Eric, who spent so much time and effort ensuring that everyone was involved and entertained. It also helped that the weather was fantastic whilst we were there. Everyone we spoke to were really impressed by this hotel from the food to the staff - I did not hear any complaints whatsoever. It is definitely somewhere we would come to again.
Good value for money
The hotel was a pleasant experience for us. We stayed there for 4 days.
The food was good, the staff very helpful. The best part being the bar which servers drinks(all included in the package cost).
There are plenty of activities for kids and adults alike.
