Hotel Don Pedro: great views shame about the hotel

by geordieontour

First impressions of the hotel is a really impressive entrance from the road, nice reception area, then it was downhill, Weather it was an off day, but the reception staff have no customer service, theirs your key, go away no welcome no paperwork about the hotel, where anything is, nothing, when asked where the restaurant is, answer find it that way, A poor start, I believe they expect you to be one of many who returns every few months and know your way around.
In the room still no information , Rooms are very basic compared to modern hotels, no hair dryer, bathroom clean but old, TV old style a few channels in English and one plug for Electric, no fridge,
Air Conditioning good , as you need to put your key in the slot to activate the electric, a handy tip is to use an old credit card or something that size and leave in the slot when you go out!! , to allow air conditioning to stay on, We used our E111 card worked a treat.
Now the room position we were in the dreaded 111 there are 3 rooms overlooking the bay 109, 110 and 111 beautiful view but you are above the kitchen and all the delivery vans and bin wagons at all hours come in, plus there is a bank of motors operating the coolers in the kitchens and the noise is awful , just think of sleeping in an engine room of a ship, goes on all night, so unless you are a heavy sleeper or snore you may want to move, why did we not move ?, the views and the fire exit door leading to the pool is only 6 feet from your door, so you were in the pool area first each morning, this compensated for the noise.
Pool Area
2 pools , 1 large, 1 child plenty of sun beds surrounded by a wall pool opens at 10:00am by a gate on the road, but as I said normally opens at 9:15am and as mentioned we used the fire door at 9:00 to grab a spot before breakfast. The pool is away from the open bar so drinks need to be carried up the road in plastic glasses, so no bar service at the pool, There is a life guard on duty all day,
Bars
There are 2 bars but only one is used depending on the weather, so no matter where you are in the hotel you need to walk normally to the Terrance bar, one beer and plenty of local spirits, wine is collected from inside the restaurant.
Terrance area.
Are you an early riser, you need to be, watching people up at 7:00am putting towels out in the best spots, some there all day but not used, plus they are packed together, so you need to be friendly
Restaurant
Again no staff to greet new arrivals, it’s a case of asking someone for the format, grab a table, food buffet style, drinks if you want a beer, you guested it back out to the Terrance bar, wine on draught as well as coffees etc., plenty of choice, but it is a 3 star hotel so don’t except top cuts of meat apart from the 2 theme nights, when there is a roast on. Staff are helpful, always cleaning tables etc.
Entertainment
No brainer, don’t expect top shows think of a Butlins team , never used the lounge but some people do enjoy it, it seemed there was nothing for young children so be aware, highlight of the evenings was people feeding a wild Goat!!!!
Overall.
The hotel is in a prime spot for the views around the bay and just to chill out, but the hotel needs a complete refurbishment as it is dated, but as long as guests return this will not happen, Would I go back, possibly for a long weekend

the views are fanstastic

Hotel Roc Leo: coming to its sell by date

by geordieontour

Coming to its sell by date.

This is the third time at the Leo in 3 years, and its starting to show its age, Again the hotel is in an ideal position, close to beach etc and within easy reach for the airport. We decided to stay full board this time, and really enjoyed the meals, breakfast plenty of choice and there were 3 microwaves around the room to use if needed, plenty of choice, both hot and cold, Lunch was a calming experience, as there were never more than 15 tables covered, and there was a good spread of meals on display to choose from, to enjoy at a comfortable pace, Evening meal you need to time your entrance, as it will get rather full and there is no urgently to clean tables for new arrivals, sometimes causing queuing at the door.
Again rooms are basic, but clean, no fridge or kettle etc., air conditioning is hit and miss, but if you are willing you can pay 39 euros to hire a fridge, bathroom clean and functional, now , plenty of hot water, There are 3 views to choose from depending on your taste, one is overlooking the airport itself, good for plane spotters, the second is overlooking the side street, and about 40 metres into all the rooms of the Hotel Helios, who are all watching you as well, ideal if you area people watcher,!! And third the pool view which faces the sea and is a lot quieter, so make sure you pick your desired choice,
General furnishings in the public areas have seen their day, carpets in the hall ways well worn.
The main highlight each day was happy hour from 5 to 6, it’s the most I have seen the bar busy,
Entertainment was from 10:00 to 11:00pm each night, different act each night, nothing much happening for families with Children,
The hotel seem to be relying on past customers and people using it as a base only to visit the area, there are new hotels opening in the area and close to the Leo, so unless it ups the game i. e. and starts to reinvest in the hotel , will start to lose business .

Leo Hotel: great for a base

by geordieontour

Arrived at the Hotel Leo early around 10:30 in the morning on the airport bus which stops 50 metres away, Reception were great, even through check in was 14:00 a room was ready for us on the first floor.
Room.
Basic room with TV, bathroom etc, there was no fridge or mini bar, or any kettle, advise to take a small travel kettle if you like a drink, problem is there were only 2 electric points one for the TV and one in the bathroom, but we managed, good size bathroom plenty hot water, etc, maid service each day, bed was basic, sheet and over cover spare blanket in cupboard,
Restaurant
Good choice of food but it stayed the same each day for evening and Breakfast, The restaurant is not big enough over the weekend period, when large groups booked in, people waited at the door until a table was found, and also long waits at the buffet counter, did quiet down midweek, There was normally a queue at opening times to get in.
Lounge area
Small hotel entertainment provided each night a lot of dancing where the locals pop in, otherwise not a lot happening .

Hotel perfect for a base to get around the area, around the pool it is mainly in the shade until around lunchtime, for the price good value, will recommend to others as its only 2 minutes to the sea front .

close to beach
